Easton Novak is hiding something fearsome inside of him. An unconventional upbringing has turned his inner grizzly into a berserker—one who has all but destroyed his humanity. Being around people isn’t easy. Not when he doesn’t understand any of their reactions, or half of what they’re saying. And if he can convince his alpha he’s half sane, he just might let Easton live. But when the raven from Easton’s childhood shows up at his door again, he knows he’s slowly sinking into a madness he can’t come back from. She’s not real. She can’t be.
Raven shifter, Aviana King, is terrified of bears. They’re her people’s natural enemy, but she hasn’t been able to forget the bear cub she befriended all those years ago. Faced with a loveless courtship she doesn’t want, she visits Easton just to see if the sparking feelings she felt for him when they were kids are still there. The only problem is, he thought she was just a friendly raven all those years ago, and now he doesn’t recognize her human form at all. But as she searches for the courage to approach him and his terrifying Gray Back Crew, it becomes clear that the sweet silver bear cub from her childhood has grown into a powerful, dominant, barely-controlled monster grizzly. Now, the greatest threat to Aviana’s life is the man she loves. He isn’t Easton Novak anymore. He’s Beaston.

I love this bear! It was such a cute, wonderful read! It's exactly what I wanted from a short shifter book: fun, fast-paced, not a lot of drama. Perfect for your morning coffee.
Loved it. This is the first 5 star rating I’ve given in this series so far and it’s so well deserved. I love Easton. He’s so sweet. My favorite so far in this series!
Easton didn't have the best of childhoods and endured much struggles though there was always a raven to comfort him, leaving odd gifts for young Easton to find. However, Easton never really knew that the raven was a shifter too. Years later Aviana, the raven, returns back to the woods to find Easton...
Shouldn't have expected much but the story started off pretty swell and was right up my alley. But it just went downhill after the halfway mark. SO DISAPPOINTING. The latter half was just tied up too neatly, tad cheesey and some eyerolls. Story plot delivery definitely could have been better.
What a sweet story. I was expecting angst with Easton's story but it was actually the lowest angstiness of any book I've read by this author. Just sweet and a little sad, but with a super nice ending. You get the backstory on Easton and how he came to be as fucked up as he is. You meet a new breed of shifter, a super shy girl whose finally pulling up her big girl panties to tell the boy she's loved forever, how special he is to her.
Sweet but not too sweet, if you know what i mean ; )
There is something about Easton that I’ve liked from the start. He seemed a bit misunderstood within the crew, even as he screwed up all the time. With this book we got to know his backstory and it broke my heart. I loved that a secret person from his past was there for him, that even though he didn’t know it as a kid when he was going through the hard times someone was there for him.
Ana was great for Easton, showed him how much he was cared for even when he didn’t know it. I loved that even though she was sacred of the rest of the Grey Backs she still sought out Easton and how she got the rest of them to think of him better.
The ending was perfect, loved that Ana was able to surprise Easton and what the whole crew is going to do.
The Trailer Park Bears are here again, with the fourth in the Gray Back Bears Series.
The Gray Backs, and all the others of the Trailer Park Bears group of multiple series, truly do live in trailer parks. Broken-down singlewides, parked in the middle of the forest, where Dragon Shifter Damon Daye has brought them in to clear trees devastated by bug infestations. The TPB’s series is actually more than one series. The first tells the story of the Saw Back Bears, this second series is all about the Gray Backs. While the Ashe crew, the stars of the Saw Bears series, is the “A Team” of lumberjacks, well, the Gray Back crew is, as Alpha Creed puts it, “The C Team”. Rowdy, constantly battling, and constantly covered in blood, the Gray Backs are a misfit band of dominant bears. Broken dominant bears. Creed the alpha, Matt the man-ho, Clinton and Jason the goofballs. And then there is Easton, a bear so broken he can’t stand to live close to the others – and can’t seem to stop fighting, even when it might mean his death. A broken clan with a brutal and savage history, they are the clan that nobody wants to mess with.
Book one was Matt’s story. Book two took us deeper into Creed’s story. Gray Back #3, Gray Back Ghost Bear, was Jason and Georgia. Now, we finally get to Easton's story, the one I have been waiting for. Easton's life was a horror show of infinite proportions, and it has left him fighting every second for some form of sanity. The Gray Back crew is his last chance. If Creed can't keep him under control, he will have to be put down. And that knife's edge is cutting closer.
Then, a ghost from his past reappears, and the thin line of his sanity, which has left him with the name 'Beaston' among the crew, wobbles dangerously. For there is a Raven in their midst - a Raven Beaston is certain he only dreamed. Aviana - the raven who once visited him in the darkness and terror of his childhood. Can they renew that bond and save both their souls?
Book four is the one I was waiting for, and it didn't disappoint. A wonderful story, full of hope and forgiveness.
Love this T.S. Joyce series !!! Beautiful surroundings, wonderful characters, and interesting stories make these worthwhile. Super hot sex, great plot, and terrific people show the greatness in this author. Easton, our tortured werebear is our focus. He has a raven following him around and thinks it's a ghost haunting him. Ariana is the raven, and she's real. In fact she's known him nearly all her life. Now she wants him for her own, she's going to grab for what she wants in life, finally ! Through flashbacks we see Easton's sad and tragic childhood trauma, and the reasons "Ana" couldn't help him or save him. But in reality, she did save him, by showing up as her raven when he needed hope. Terrific end to the series, and I look forward to Kong's story in the October release of the Lowlander Silverback series. I've loved the Saw Bears, the Fire Bears, the Bear Valley Shifters, Hells Canyon Shifters, Wolf Brides, Coveted By the Bear, and Shelter Me Home. Needless to say, I love T. S. Joyce's writing !! Highly recommend ! ENJOY !!!
The whole idea of a raven and bear shifter mating had me skeptical of liking this book as much as the others in this series, but I'm about convinced this writer can pull off just about anything. It was a sweet and enjoyable read throughout. I wanted more in the sense of closure, but was happy to see that "A Very Beastly Christmas" was also available (even better it was also offered on kindleunlimited) and this was a follow-up story on this couple.
Loved this angsty, sweet story with the h loving the H since childhood. I really liked how her family and his crew believed and supported them both. The h was very fragile at first, so was the H thanks to the trauma of his childhood. Once they were lovers they become so much stronger. Great love story.
Oh how I love T S Joyce's Bear books!!!! This story was about Easton (Beaston), it was heartwarming, and actually made me weepy. Great story!!! I can't wait to hear Kong's story in October. Btw, I don't think I will ever look at M&M's the same way again.
Like soo many of this writers stories, I’m left happy but a bit perplexed and a tad vexed. Easton and Ava had so so so MUCH potential here. Meeting at children. One not knowing the other was a shifter ,still his heart is broken when the only his he has leaves him. Easton goes thru soo much heart ache, heart break and loss,it’s criminal for all us to not get more of a story from him. He’s treated like this weird backwoods freak/ simpleton at times but he’s soo much more. We’re told in later books what a beautiful amazing “ legendary” love these to have,( the word legendary is actually used) and yet as always ,sadly 😰, we ONLY get the short abbreviated Cliff Notes version of their love 💕. This coulda , woulda , shoulda been soo much better .there was soo much to work w/here. It’s like having the materials to make a very nice three bedroom house and making a small playroom for a couple of kids instead . Sometimes I’d say a small doghouse really. I’m really disappointed Ava and Easton didn’t get the story they deserved . More than some but not nearly enough.
Though much better than the pointless plot in Cassie and Hayden’s story where Cassie and Matt selfishly foist her on Hayden because some black bear “alpha “ is supposedly out for her and his only appearance is at the end of a single short phone call. Good on the scale I’ve created internally for Ms.Joyce but not nearly good enough for us or the characters she’s doing a disservice to.
I loved every moment of Easton's story just as much as I knew I would!! We finally got to find out what broke that sweet angry complicated man. I am so glad he found his hally and Ana qas the perfect compliment to his bear in every way 😍 5⭐
"it was him. Her bear. Easton. Easton, the one she had grown up with. Easton, the one her heart had latched onto. Easton, the boy who broke."
"Easton was terrifying and beautiful, like a tornado."
"This feeling right here- the breathless, stomach- dipping , bewildered one - this was what falling for a man should feel like."
"Easton as a boy had tempted her heart. Easton as a man was ruining her for anyone else."
"Fragile, delicate Ana. He was an avalanche, and she was a hummingbird. Courageous little creature. Sexy."
"if I would've kept you all my life, I couldn't appreciate you like I do now. I wouldn't know how bad it can hurt without you."
"because you might be a beast, Easton Novak, but you're also a survivor, and I'm so f*cking proud of how far you've come, I can hardly stand it."
"She was so damned proud of her brave broken bear."
The MFC is small and slight but strong. The MMC’s back story is tragic and makes sense with his behavior throughout the series. They're adorable as a bear and a raven,
“He was the avalanche, and she the hummingbird, and the only real gift he could give her was to not crash down upon her and crush her into oblivion.”
He struggles with his less civilized side but she's been with him so long, it's believable that they'll make it. I loved that there's another baby dragon. I also appreciated that her parents didn't turn out to be shit.
My favorite line comes from, of course, Willa,
“As Second, I veto your bullshittery. She likes him, she brought us beer, and she won me five fuckin’ dollars.”
I love it when the biggest, most scarred, damaged beast of a man gets his HEA. And what I loved about this story in particular, was his mate was a little timid bird whose first instinct was flight when she was scared.
I loved the two of them together and I loved their history, with them as children. Even though Easton didn’t know she was human she was still his best friend.
So I’ve read the first book in this series and the last book, not even meaning to, I guess I need to read the in between books.
4.5 stars This one gave me happy, sad and every emotion in between. Easton is a complicated character who is thrown for a loop even more with Ana coming back into his life. Each of these Gray Back bears needed their HEA and I'm so glad Beaston's came in the form of his childhood raven.
Beastion’s story was simply sweet. He and his love were darling. Of course I wanted to know more about her tribe but well that’s the way I think. Willa is the BEST!
I stayed up to read once I realised I'd made it to Easton's story, because I expected all sorts of crazy. He didn't read as I expected. Jason came across as more unstable than Beaston, which surprised me. Lots of backstory, and I loved the final 'fight' scene.
From the beginning of the Gray Back Bears series we’ve known that Easton is an out of control Shifter. He is barely holding on to his sanity and his need to fight constantly is taking a huge toll on him and his crew. At some point soon his Alpha will have no choice but to put him down. Time is truly running out for Easton – and he knows it. Living in a trailer separate from his crew, Easton knows the depth of loneliness and despair. He has moments of great kindness, times when he can function among his friends, his crew – but for the most part he has now become almost completely Beaston. A man, a bear out of control, dangerous to not only others but to himself as well. At this point he believes there is nothing that could possibly save him or if he even wants to be saved.
Aviana has lived her life in fear. Her people, raven shifters, are a totally reclusive group of shifters who are terrified of and violently hate every other type of shifter species… especially bears. Yet, as children Aviana had first found Easton in his bear form, deep in the woods abandoned and starving. In her raven form she tried to help him, food and tiny items to lift his spirits were left where he could easily find them. When it was discovered that she was helping a bear shifter, even a child, her parents put a halt to her activities. Now years later and facing an arranged marriage that she does not want, Aviana is taking her courage firmly in hand and seeking out Easton once again. There was something between them, she simply knew that, but would Easton remember her or even want to know her once he realized that she could have done so much more for him in their childhood but was stopped by her clan’s fear and prejudices.
Gray Back Broken Bear was such an anticipated story, and one that was both difficult and uplifting to read. We (the readers) knew that something horrible had to have happened to Easton for him to be in such dire straits at this time in his life. I don’t know that we were prepared for the cruelty and indifference, and pain that were the true benchmarks of his younger life – and how that affected his life became quite obvious. My heart broke for this man.
The romance with Aviana is full of parts of pain and happiness, hope and disillusion but finally it’s about a love, a bond that is unbreakable. And a love that will mend one man, one woman into a untied couple who can face anything… together.
I had waited on pins and needles for Easton’s story – Ms Joyce certainly delivered a heartfelt story so deep, so poignant that emotions ran high as I read this one. If I could this story would get 10 stars – and be worth every single one.
I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
This is easily tied as my favorite book in the Gray Back series along with Matt and Willa’s story. I absolutely loved getting to know more about Easton, aka Beaston.
Easily the most messed up, dangerous, and violent character of the bunch that we’ve come across so far, yet you still just want to hug him and kiss him and love him and take care of him forever and ever and ever!
Or maybe that’s just how I feel about it lol. Loved him and Ana together. Wasn’t sure if I’d like her at first, but she has some of the same quirky personality traits that Easton has that makes it awkward to socialize with “normal” people, so it worked out really well as a match.
Overall, highly recommend this book! Can’t wait to see what else TS will have for us in the rest of the series!
I was really looking forward to Easton aka Beaston's book. I just thought the heroine's actions didn't make much sense. What kind of person can watch someone starving to death, being so lonely they're almost going insane, and NOT reveal themselves to them?
I thought the heroine's reason didn't make any sense. I felt like Beaston deserved better.
But he ended up happy and that's the most important part. I would have really liked to see the big trip at the end of the book but I guess we're just being teased by the author. Maybe she'll release it as a novella?
Grey Back Broken Bear by T.S Joyce was by far my favorite of her shifter books so far.
Easton's bear is out of control because of everything he went through as a cub. Ana is a shy raven shifter, who has witnessed evefthing Easton has been through because even though she is naturally afraid of grizzlys, they form the most unlikely of bonds when they were younger. Now at 28, she wants nothing more then to mate Easton.
But will he forgive her for leaving him.when he needed her the most?
This is a great story. I have been reading all the books as they came out, and I always wanted to know the story of how Easton came to have so much trouble controlling his bear. It was a great story, and really well-written. I loved how we learned a bit, and then a bit more, until we understood everything. I really like the heroine, though it took a while to really get her. She was scared, but brave, and took a chance and made everything come out right.
I really enjoyed this story. I love the way the author starts with a scarred hero and heroine, then with love and understanding helps them become the people they were meant to be.
I was really looking forward to Easton's story so maybe it's normal I ended up disappointed. I enjoyed what was there, but there was so much lacking for me.
A constant theme in all of these books are "I understand now I had to go through all of this shit so I could appreciate what we have". Which fine, true to a point, and tragic backstories are a big part of a lot of shifter books. But that doesn't mean every single character has to suddenly appreciate how much their life sucked for years until they were at the end of their rope and ready to give up before finding their mate.
Some of the things I was disappointed with are below, hidden as spoilers.
What Is It About: Easton has always been the most damaged and aggressive of the bears in the Gray Backs, but he's always been the sweetest when it comes to the women. He has a tragic past and his only positive memory is of his only friend- his raven. But eventually even his raven abandoned him. He's haunted by the memory. But she wasn't just a raven, she was actually a raven shifter and she's been in love with Easton since childhood. She decided to find him again after been asked to take part in an arranged marriage.
What I Liked and Didn't: I've loved Easton since the start of the series- he's been sweet yet crazy. This book certainly didn't disappoint. It wasn't easy for him but he managed to find love. Ana was soft and nervous. Normally, I wouldn't like this sort of heroine but the combination of her being a raven shifter and the calm to Easton's storm, it works out perfectly. Plot-wise, it was mainly the flashbacks into Easton's past and how he learns to settle down. His past shows how tragic it is and his weird nature makes complete sense. Even before he knew that Ana was his raven, he was completely adorable with her.
Final Thoughts: There wasn't particularly anything special in the plot but my love of Easton and him earning his happily ever after made this book one of my favourites in the series. Would I recommend it? Definitely, gotta love Easton. Will I be carrying on the series? Kong seems like a sweetheart so I'd love to read his happy ending.
This is the forth book in this series. Easton(Beaston) is my favorite bear in this series. Easton grew up very unconventionally even for a bear. He had a raven friend as a child and then one day the raven stopped coming to visit him. Easton’s bear is out of control as a result of how he grew up. Aviana is a raven shifter. Her people do things differently than the bears. She is faced with the prospect of loveless pairing. Before she can give the guy a final answer she must face her fears and go find Easton. The thing is that he never knew she was a shifter and she never showed him her human form so he has no idea who she is. Once she finds Easton and sees how he turned out she can’t do what is expected of her. She must stay and help Easton the boy she has always loved. This book almost made me cry and I don’t cry easily. I feel for Easton he has been through so much and he doesn’t fit in easily. He is different for so many reason but he is a great guy. Aviana hasn’t had it easy either but not as bad as Easton. How will Easton react when he realizes that Aviana is his raven from all those years ago? This by far is my favorite book in this series so far. I am loving the way this group of bears is shaping up and can’t wait to read the next book. Another fantastic book by T.S. Joyce.
I've really enjoyed Easton throughout this Gray Back series, but I was a bit worried about what his story would be. I was really disappointed with the "broken" bear of the Ashe Crew's story in Sawman Werebear, so I didn't know if Easton would get something that felt more complete or not. But he totally did!
I just loved this one. Finding out about Easton's past. Learning about his prior relationship with Aviana. And I loved, loved, loved that Aviana was timid, but still strong enough to go after what she wanted! She felt like a very different heroine from the rest of the women in the series, and I really appreciated that. (And I loved that Aviana was the first woman he ever kissed 🥰. That entire scene where they "first" meet is just the sweetest.)
This was just the perfect way to wrap up the Gray Back Crew's story. 👍
