Another excellent read from Tess Oliver!! This one was a bit different to her usual stuff, there's more intrigue and suspense, lots of mystery going on. And of course there's one hell of a hot romance going on and a scorchingly sexy alpha male hero, this is Tess after all! Boy does she write a hot hero well! I really enjoyed this book, I couldn't put it down, I just HAD to find out what happened to Tashlyn and her dad all those years ago. This story is about Tashlyn who lost her dad when she was a child to a trucking accident leaving her an orphan. She was raised by her hippy aunt in a commune, and now at 23 she's returned to the town of the site of her dad's accident. She needs answers, not least to how she came to be wandering around the forest as a lost and scared seven year old child on the night of her dad's death. There she meets Jem Wolfe, town bad boy living under the shadow of his family's bad name. She warned about him, told if she's any sense she'll stay away, but she's drawn to him and feels a connection to him right off the bat. This story intrigued me greatly, as did the characters. Other than the main characters, Dane in particular piqued my interest. I'm wondering if he'll get his own book, he's a bit mysterious and it's evident he has some difficulties and issues, I'd love to read more of him. I definitely recommend this book, those of you who have read Tess before will know she can do no wrong when it comes to her books, I've yet to find one I haven't loved. Those of you who haven't read her yet, well why the hell not?!
♦️SETTING: Blackthorn Ridge, a small town in the mountains
♦️HERO: Jem Wolfe, 24--sawmill worker. Local bad boy. He's dark, serious, hardworking, cocky and confident and a little bit dangerous with devilish good looks, tattoos.
♦️HEROINE: Tashlyn / Tash Younglove, 23--sweet, beautiful with blonde hair, blue eyes and a vintage, bohemian, hippy-chick style. Grew up with her aunt in an off-the-grid commune, living off the land and worshipping nature with colorful, artsy, freethinking people. Can sing and play the guitar. Searching for answers about her father's death.
♦️PLOT: After living with her aunt since her father's tragic death 16 years ago, Tash returns to the very mysterious small town of Blackthorn Ridge to try to find some answers. Days after her father's truck accident on a dangerous curve, Tashlyn had been found wandering along the road with bruises and suffering memory loss. She's now in Blackthorn Ridge to find out what happened to her during that missing time. Tash instantly befriends Everly, a friendly local girl and begins an office job at the sawmill where bad boy Jem works. She's quickly warned away from Jem and the infamous Wolfe family but they share a connection. Jem comes to her rescue when someone sinister wants her out of town or dead as Tashlyn's memories start to return.
♦️REVIEW: I really enjoyed this romantic suspense. Likable characters, sweet & hot romance, interesting mystery. The ending was a little rushed and a bit more would have been nice. I'd like to read about some of the secondary as well.
♦️STEAM LEVEL: moderate, 3.5/5 - a few sexy scenes
Jem that boy loves to bust his woman's imaginary balls, “just figured since you’ve seen me naked and everything, we should at least be friends.” Trash doesn't mind speaking her thoughts, “just like I didn’t picture you with a bird watching guide, I don’t picture you dusting furniture and mopping floors.” He pushed open the door. “Or picking up dirty clothes . . . or empty chip bags . . . or beer cans,” I added once I stepped inside. “Yep, you’re a slob.” I loved Jem so much, “watching you bake Christmas cookies is making me horny as hell,” he growled against my ear." I really enjoyed reading this book it had quite a mystery to it.
I have said this before but I will say it again!=) If Tess writes it I read it! She is one of those authors for me. She never disappoints me! This was a "who done it" type book so I can't say much, wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone! I can say that this has her usual hotness! She knows how to write some sexy stuff! Read everything you can by Tess Oliver!
I loved this book. From the very first page to the last one I was hooked. It was an awesome story and I think this one is my new favorite from Tess. All of her books leave me wanting more... But this one...Yeah I want Jem for myself. Anyway, as always really really enjoyed reading it.
Physical Distraction by Tess Oliver is a really suspenseful book that keeps you guessing until the last few pages of the book, I know I would not have figured it out until I read it! This is a stand alone novel that does not end on a cliffhanger. This book is filled with emotional, physical and sexual angst. The book has two main characters, and a rich cast of minor characters which really enhances this book. I recommend this book to people who like a little bit of romance with a lot of mystery to go with it!
Tashlyn is a young woman who has lived with her father's sister since she was 7 years old, and her father was murdered right before her eyes 16 years ago. If it were not for someone finding her and telling her to run a long time ago she would have died right along with her father. Her Aunt Carly lives in a commune called The Grog and Tashlyn led a happy life there growing up and having so many peace loving people looking out for her. However she has never put her father's death out of her mind so decides she is going to go back to the town it happened in to see if she can find out what really happened. All she remembers is wandering and being found at the Ranger's Station.
So with her Aunt's blessing and a packet of post cards with stamps on them so she can write her Aunt everyday, (as they do not use cell phones at The Grog), she hops on the bus and travels to Blackthorn Ridge. On the bus she meets up with Everly and they become fast friends. Everly invites her to stay at her home with her, instead of in the rundown motel she was going to check into and it is closer to the job she found in the classified Ads so she gratefully accepts. She also tells Everly about her Dad dying at the Phantom Curve, a place that is known for semi trucks running off the road and falling all the way to the bottom of the cliff. Everly tells her there are at least 10 shrines on the stretch of road. So Everly agrees to wait for Tashlyn at her Uncle's market while Tashlyn crosses the bridge to visit the Phantom Curve, but she still remembers nothing.
While there she runs into the Wolfe brothers, Jem and Dane. Dane is the older one but not really all there sometimes and Jem has looked out for Dane since he was younger. Jem helps her back up the path she had slipped down and she thanks him and goes to Everly's house.
When she goes to the job site at the lumber mill and meets her boss he is so happy to have her work for him, and she is is overwhelmed at all the men gawking at her! However her interest is snagged by the town bad boy, and although a few people warn her he is bad news she can't help but like him. Jem is handsome and she can see through his bad boy persona to the nice man underneath.
Not everyone in Blackthorn Bridge is glad to see Tashlyn back in town however as the town hides a multitude of crimes and criminals to go with it. Things start happening to Tashlyn that scare her and cause her to start remembering what she blocked out all those years ago. One thing is for sure; the same people who killed her father 16 years ago are now going to find a way to do away with her!
Read this book, I guarantee that you will be just as surprised as I was at who is behind all these crimes! The added bonus is the rest of the story and the relationship between Jem and Tashlyn!
I gave this book 5***** well earned stars! I look forward to the next book by Tess Oliver, she is the best!
I am proud to say that Tess Oliver is a friend of mine and I am also a great fan of her work. However, I am 100% sure that she would be the first to say that when I write a review it is unbiased and from the heart. With that disclosure let me say that I truly enjoyed "Physica Distraction."
Tashlyn's father was a trucker and unfortunately, she was asleep in the truck asleep when it veered off a winding ravine and he was killed. She was only six at the time and now as a young women she feels that she needs to leave the safety of the Grog or hippie commune she has lived with her Aunt Carly for the past sixteen years to find the piece of herself she lost after her father's death.
On a bus ride to Blackthorn Ridge, Tash meets a force of nature known as Everly. Everly or Ever has been disfigured by scars from a burn but that has not diminished her wonderful personality and great spirit. They immediately like each other. So, when they arrive at Blackthorn, the place where Tash's father lost his life, Ever discovers that Tash will be working in the office of the local logging camp she is shocked. She has to warn her new friend of the horny men that are working there and especially warn her to stay away from two troublesome brothers Dane and Jem Wolfe. Of course, Ever also mentioned that Blackthorn has a dark history of several girls gone missing but that was a while ago.
As Tash begins acquainting herself in her new surroundings, she inevitably comes across the Wolfe brothers. Dane is cute but a jerk and Jem is................... a sexy, hawt, piece of hunkin' burnin' love on a stick!! Yep, that about describes it and while Tash isn't looking for any relationship or heartache, love has a way of sneaking up on a person and leading us down roads it wants us to go. Truthfully, there is something special and comfortable about Jem Wolfe and who knows he might just be able to help Tash with the mystery surrounding her father's untimely death; but, when an old newspaper goes missing that may have the clues she needs and Tash discover's Jem's father is behind the disappearance, maybe he is not so safe after all.
Then, someone begins stalking Tash and sending her creepy messages. What's going on and is she really in danger? Well, let me tell you the answer to these questions is an intriguing read with many unforseen twists and turns, great characters and hot monkey love. One of the things that I love about Tess Oliver's writing is that she writes about the everyday person who is trying to survive and that has flaws. There are no billionaire bad boys in these books that take the common girl off to their ivory castle filled lives. Nope, just good old everyday people like you and me who are trying to make sense of the world in which we live. I loved this book and couldn't get enough!!!!
Don't walk. Run to your device and download Physical Distraction right now. You won't regret it!!!!!
I Was Provided A ARC By The Author (Possible Spoilers)

Another amazing book by the fabulous Tess Oliver! Tashlyn doesn't know where her journey will lead her, just that she has to make it. She was raised on a commune after a tragedy left her with very little family. She was just a child but there was intense trauma from the loss, to the extent she's lost part of herself, a whole period of her life is dark. There are no memories, no moments of clarity, nothing. So she's embarking on a journey to the last things she knows in hopes it will get her memories back and make her whole. Jem Wolfe is back in Blackthorn because he needs to watch over his brother. He doesn't want to be there, doesn't want all the stories about his family to be true, doesn't want to slip into the darkness where he might find that they are true, doesn't want any of it. When Jem meets Tash he thinks he's found the light that will save him from the darkness but can he help her figure out the mystery of of her story before that light is extinguished forever? Wonderful character development, fluid story line, full of suspense and twists and turns and of course hot steamy sex and a pure love. Follow them on their journey and love every minute of it.
I received a copy for an honest review. Tashlyn has grown up with her aunt in the Grog, a place basically cut off from the rest of the world full of hippies. As she gets older she wants closure on her dad death so she ventures to the place he died and she was found wandering with no memory of events, Blackthorn Ridge. Only problem is someone there already knows all about her and the events she can't remember. Jem is the town bad boy. His father had built a bad reputation and unfortunately it transferred to Jem and his brother Dane. Jem meets Tashlyn and knows immediately he wants her. Though Tashlyn had been warned by her new friend not to go near Jem or his family because they were bad news. Jem doesn't give up though. Eventually Tashlyn starts uncovering some secrets she wasn't meant to know. This book was great. It kept me guessing right to the end on who did what! This book has it all, romance, suspense, a hot bad boy, kidnapping and hot sex! Grab this book.
This book was so good, there was the mystery involving the lack of memory of the time when Tashlyn's father had a fatal accident. She heads off of to where the memory lapse happened and things she didn't bargain for begin to happen. In this quiet little mountain town the secrets are buried so deep that Tashlyn doesn't know if she will ever recover the bits and pieces of missing information. She also didn't bargain for meeting and falling in love with one of the town bad boys Jem, but upon first meeting him she cannot deny the electric charge she gets just being around him, she cannot deny there is an air of danger about the Wolfe brothers, but she also cannot deny the things Jem does to her body and heart, she feels there is something deeper about this one brother Jem and she wants to uncover it. Loved this book and I love Tess's writing! I fell right over the cliff in love with this book, one of those stay up late to finish it books!
I have to say Tess Oliver is definitely one of my favourite authors, she has a way with words that keep you trapped between the pages till you find out what's next and even then it's not enough you want more. Tess is wonderfully talented and writes different, fascinating stories with lots of twists and turns. Her writing is a clever balance of drama, action, sexual tension, and romance.
When I received ACR of Physical Distraction I didn't know what to expect, if I was going to like it or not but once again Tess never disappoints, I absolutely loved the story. I couldn't put the book down and read it in couple of hours as Tess Oliver had me hooked from the beginning to the end. Tess keeps you so engrossed in the story with the very real characters and the plot that is full of suspense and danger, secrets and lies, unexpected twists, love and passion, and most definitely steam.
I was kindly provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review........
5 Absolutely Amazing Stars !!!!
Tess has once again excelled in her ability to create a story line with sooooo many WHAT ? and How ? and Who ? moments !!!! This is Jem (our towns bad boy with the rep for trouble with a capital T, all because of his families deep secrets). Then we have Tashlyn, our sweetie returning to her home town looking for answers but with very little memories. Jem and Tash = CHEMISTRY !!. Lets just say past and the present collide and POW !!!! Its all happening !!
I loved every single minute of this story !!! I Reading about Dane (Jem's brother) also wasn't a hardship !!
Definitely well worth a read if you enjoy a well written suspense story line with awesome HOT characters !!!
Many Thanks for the opportunity Tess !!! Another winner !!!!!!
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
**4.5 Stars**
I absolutely loved this story! Suspense, mystery and action made Physical Distraction a fun, exciting read. When Tashlyn returns to Blackthorn Ridge to get some answers surrounding her father's death sixteen years earlier, she never expected to be blown away by the sexy as sin town bad boy, Jem. Even though she is warned of his reputation, she can't help but be attracted to him. Jem is falling just as hard for Tashlyn and the instant connection they share is one neither can ignore. As truths are revealed and the long hidden, dark history of the town is brought to the surface, Tashlyn begins to question who can be trusted.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. Loved the sizzling hot chemistry between Jem and Tash. Awesome secondary characters. Great ending!
I think Tess Oliver's books get better and better every time she puts something new out!!! This book was up and down emotional for me. Jem the hot broody bad boy with a Side that just try's to do right but gets the short end of the stick was hot and sexy sweetness that I loved!!! Tashlyn was so sweet and charming you instantly fall in love with her...this book had some serious mysteries going on.... I seriously didn't see it coming!!! I was not expecting who the bad guy(s) was and usually I can figure it out but not this time!!! Another excellent job by Tess Oliver!!!!
It's always the bad boys with the hearts of gold that get the good girl. Tashlyn has her mind set on deciphering her past by revisiting the place of her father's death. Jem, logger with a bad rep and criminal past, senses an instant connection with her. The chemistry with these two is dynamic and the story full of intrigue and twists. One of Oliver's best works will keep you thinking and at the edge of your seat. As part of her ARC team I consider it a real treat to read her books early and devour them quickly, she's quite crafty with her hot-as-hell bad guys.
I love all of Tess' books, so perhaps I'm biased, but I love her books because they're not predictable. There's a common theme of boy/girl/romance with her work, but there's also some mystery. A suspense where you're not quite sure where the story is heading. In this, her latest book, the characters are unlike others Tess has created. We have a dark, almost scary male lead, and the girl is a bit ditsy, you expect her to be quite naive. But she's not! You must read it's twists and turns. Another fab read from Tess Oliver. Thank you.
Wow!! Just wow!! I'm usually not big on the whole suspense thing but my my my this didn't disappoint!! I loved every bit of it!!! I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who it was and every time I thought I had it figured out I was proven wrong!!! Amazing, absolutely amazing!!!
Hidden secrets in a small logging town are at the center of a sixteen year old mystery that saturates Tess Oliver's newest novel, Physical Distraction with suspense. The reader is pulled immediately into the life of the town's bad boy, Jem Wolfe. The arrival of a sheltered flower-child from the Grog, a compound of artisan hippies living and communing with nature, adds to the clandestine secrets of the town and its inhabitants. Tashlyn Younglove was searching for answers about her father's accidental death in a small town called Blackthorn Ridge. Jem Wolfe and his family are notoriously known as trouble in this small community. His character develops before your eyes into a multi-dimensional entity as you read his and Tashlyn’s story. This is the path they take together to find peace, happiness, and love in an uncertain world.
Tash couldn't remember details about her life when she was found by a park ranger, cold and hungry. She needed answers and decides to find out what had happened when she was a young child of seven. Riding a bus to Blackthorn she meets Everly and they become fast friends. Everly invites her to stay with her while she is in Blackthorn. When Tash meets Jem Wolfe after being warned to stay clear of him and his brother Dane, she learns there are many different sides to this complex man. Jem is intrigued by the girl he's dubbed "Woodstock" but still warns her that this town is not for her and she needs to leave. The more time they spend together the more the attraction between them grows and Jem knows he will do whatever it takes to keep Tash safe.
The mystery behind her father's death and Jem's father's past collide into a story you do not want to miss! Not knowing who the real villain is or where the next strike will come from, attests to the grip this author has on the reader. The knowledge of the mysterious disappearances of young girls adds another element of tension to the storyline. Tess Oliver masterfully weaves suspense and romance together, creating an unforgettable read that will satisfy anyone that craves a novel filled with mystery, intrigue and passion. From my perspective, this is a must read and a great addition to my library.
***Received an ARC of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review***
I was graciously given a copy of this book for review.
This is a another fantastic story from Tess Oliver! Secrets reign supreme in this little town. Death, lies, and deceit that you never see coming. Tash is searching for answers to put herself back together. She feels a piece is missing. Tash is so much stronger than she thinks and trying to learn more about the tragedy that changed her life may take a dangerous turn. Her character is a true sweetheart and doesn't judge people based on looks or rumors. Jem is sexy, strong, and of course he has a reputation of being a bad boy. A reputation he has not earned alone. Small towns and secrets have molded his life he has suspicions of some of the things going on but until Tash he doesn't realize the depth and horror of the truth. One thing he is however is loyal to his brother and now Tash he will do what needs to be done to protect them. I love this story it takes turns that you never see coming. It will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. Nothing in this town is as it seems secrets prevail but a sweet outsider and the town bad boy may find them out the hard way. One additional plus to the story is the secondary characters. Ever is fantastic she has overcome so much and come out with a brilliant beautiful sense of humor. Dane is a bit unique in his own way but fiercely loyal to his brother.
This was a strong and intense romantic suspense story. Tashlyn/Tash has returned to the town where her father died and she was found days later with no memories of what happened. Jem has been labeled as trouble and a bad boy, but he's always been looking out for his brother, Dane. I really liked both of these characters and together they were fantastic with great chemistry. Along with liking Tash and Jem, the suspense part of the book kept me on the edge of my seat. You slowly start putting together pieces, but you're not sure exactly how they're involved and why. I liked how Tash and Jem's pasts came full circle.
Tash's friend, Everly, wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but if you liked Taylor from Clutch or Amy from Heart of Stone, she is very similar. She becomes Tash's bff within minutes of meeting and is very outgoing, bubbly and verbose. I'm not sure if this is going to be a series (Everly/Finn and Dane), but I did like Taylor and Amy once they had their own books and were further developed. For me the book wrapped up perfectly and I'm satisfied with the ending.
I received a copy of this story from the author for an honest review.
I don't think Tess Oliver knows how to write a bad story. I have loved them all. There was something about this book that had me blocking out distractions and sinking into the pages. Tash, little girl lost on a mission to find her missing piece, tore at my heart. Her bravery and determination deserves the readers respect. Jem really is a gem of a guy. In a town that has looked down on him his whole life, he holds his head high. The town belongs in a horror movie. The town's history kind of spooked me out. The more I read the happier I was that I didn't live there. Jem is the strength that helps Tash find her past. He becomes her protector. He becomes her investigator. He becomes her lover. He becomes her other half. Together they are strong enough to survive and find the answers. Physical Distraction is a suspense that needs to be read to the conclusion. I finally understand the saying it was a "page turner". Page after page I was obsessed with the characters and the story. Looking forward to Tess Oliver's next great read. It can't come soon enough.
We have Tash our main female. She's off to find the answers to her missing past in Blackthorne Ridge. Tash is going from a commune type place of peaceful, hippy living to a rough-neck back woods type of place.
While in travel she meets Everly, she's a town native, they quickly become good friends and roommates.
If course in a small town everyone knows everyone's business, weather it be good or bad. And of course here's where our hero Gem comes in. The bad boy. Tash meets him through at her new job at a lumber mill.
The premises for this book started off really well, the words and editing flowed well, it was just lots of in between filler chapters. The book while it held many twisted, intertwined secreted also became predictable in parts. The lights going out, and don't be alone... of course Tash did the "Scary Movie" type of things and did exactly what a normal person wouldn't do in those situations.
This book was just an okay read for me. This was the first book I've read from this author, I would also give her another go.
It was a awesome story, kept me on the edge trying to figure out the mystery. Jem and his brother both saved her when she was 8 from monster's that killed her father and his killers were after her. Now 16 years later the part of her memory is buried and she is back to this small town trying to get answers about the day. In the process of finding answers she found more then she ever wanted. When the new girl shows up in town Jem warned her to run away (like he did all those years ago) but she is there and he can't get her out of his mind no matter who lady he finds at.the bar, Tashlyn has gotten him hooked. His dad is on his last days and his hiding more secrets and skeletons then Jen know, until all the truth is revealed and many cold case's will be solved.
Hope that Everly has her HE A story with Finn, and Jem's brother Dane will find that special someone for him.

First let me just say, Jem......swoon! This story of Tashlyn and Jem is full of intrigue, suspense, and romance! Tashlyn travels to Blackthorn Ridge to uncover the events of her father's death 16 years before. The trauma of the night is blocked out in her mind, so she is looking for answers. She makes a friend, meets the dangerous Wolfe brothers and seems to stir up warnings against her being there! Her friend Everly warns her of Jem the youngest Wolfe brother, but Tashlyn can't help the attraction she has for Jem. Jem can't fight the pull he feels and how protective he feels towards her. Secrets, danger, intrigue and romance, Tess weaves a great story! Suspense till the very end! Don't miss out!
Physical Distraction is pegged as a Sinful Suspense novel and boy it hits the mark. Pretty much from page one I was sucked right in and left guessing immediately. Tess really was successful in setting a mysterious and edgy tone. I was on the edge of my seat reading.
Physical Distraction was a fab read and I really enjoyed it. Great lead characters, drama, sizzle, mystery and a wicked twist - it was all there.
Happily recommend this stand alone read.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
