Emma has had a crush on Jaken Tanner since she was very young. He was a football star in high school and friends with her brother. She had his name scrawled over her school books and hoped that one day they would live happily ever after.

Emma moved to Shanghai straight after college when she was offered a great job opportunity. After three years living there, things haven't quite worked out how she thought they would and now she is on her way back to New York. She is stunned to see Jaken Tanner in the seat beside her on the same flight. And damn, could the guy stop getting even better looking as the years go by?!

Jaken instantly recognises Emma, as the kid sister of his old mate. She is all woman now and he is finding it hard to take his eyes off her. After an interesting flight together, Emma agrees to meet up with him again and things just take off from there.

Jaken is a single dad to his son JT after an awful divorce when JT was still a toddler. Ever since then his sole focus has been on his son and his career as a star quarterback. There have been no girlfriends in his life and no one he would want to introduce to his son and wider family. Until now. He can’t help himself when it comes to Emma, he finds himself wanting more with her.

Emma almost wants to pinch herself to make sure she is not dreaming, how the heck did she end up with Jaken Tanner pursuing her. He is everything she could have dreamed he would be and sometimes it feels too good to be true. Her old insecurities keep pulling her back in line and she is struggling with all the emotions she hasn’t felt before when it comes to Jaken.

Emma knows that she could have it all with Jaken but only if she can put her past behind her and start a new season of her life, one where things go just like she dreamed they would.

Received a copy of the title in exchange for an honest review.

Emma is one of those girls who seems like she has it all put together on the outside, but she's really good at hiding things with a smile. She was student teaching in China and came home early, telling her family one story... but not telling the full story. She ends up on a plane, seated next to a football player... that she'd had a crush on long ago.

Jaken offered her a smile and his hand, and the rest, they say, is history ;)

Jaken was a very likable lead male -- and his sexiness went up whenever he had his son, JT, with him (which... yep, was whenever he was home). There's just something about a man who drops everything and takes on the responsibility of being a single parent that just does something to me...

Both Jaken and Emma have secrets that they fear will turn the other away... but the love these two fall in to will prove they may just have what it takes. This was a beautiful story with a great football element, but the full thought of family, love, and trust was well done. Sydney is definitely an author I will revisit.

She was damaged by lies and deceit, she had become the woman she despised and she was alone in a foreign country. Coming home after three years away, Emma would never have dreamed that her childhood crush, her brother’s friend and a star quarterback in the NFL would be her welcome home committee, even if it was by chance. A single father, a media darling and more than just “good looking,” Jaken was the man of dreams since forever. But Emma has come home to heal, to find herself and to never be swallowed up in the whirlwind of another’s life, again, and Jaken lived a life at the speed of sound in the public, and on the go constantly. Can Emma handle being scrutinized by every woman wishing they were with him? Why would this man, this Adonis with the kind and caring heart want her? Is she going to be another notch on his bedpost in the revolving door of his life or have true love, trust and respect finally found her? She is convinced she is not worthy, she is broken and hides the darkness and ugly truth she left in China. They say the truth can set you free, but Emma worries that the truth will only break her heart more if Jaken finds out. Is he the man he appears to be with her or is he the star the world sees?

A New Season by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle is romantic conflict, at its saddest as two people find love “too quickly” for Emma to believe possible. Jaken’s wounds have healed, he’s moved on, but has never found what he has with Emma, but her constantly running away in fear is the biggest obstacle they face. Follow their story and see what one strong man can do for a woman too terrified to trust in her heart.

Sydney Aaliyah Michelle’s story is filled with conflict, angst and more conflict, even as the chemistry between Emma and Jaken becomes physically explosive. Emma doesn’t see her strengths, she is too vulnerable to what others think or say, failing to go to Jaken for the truth, or at least his side. Alone, her character is difficult to believe in, its Jaken’s character that shines the brightest with his patience and the ability to go for what his heart wants. He is a man on a mission, one with an alpha streak that just may be what Emma needs, or just may be what pushes her away. There was such a physical attraction that the problems these two faced outside of the bedroom were often difficult to read. Have you ever wanted to slap one of the characters silly? That is how I felt about Emma, who needed to focus beyond herself and understand that the past makes you the person you are today, maybe sadder, but certainly wiser. A wonderful romance with a male hero who was sigh-worthy and had the patience of a saint. Sydney Aaliyah Michelle knows how to pull on heartstrings.

I received this copy from Sydney Aaliyah Michelle as a prize.

A New Season is the story of Jacken Tanner, NFL star and all around great guy who any and all girls want to date and Emma who is running back home from a mistake she has made. Growing up Emma has always had a crush on Jacken but never acted on it or let anyone know about it. When fate brings them together on a flight it is instant chemistry between the two. Although Emma can’t deny the attraction between her and Jacken she is afraid to jump into his life. Being a well known sports guy and living a life in the public eye is not something that Emma believes she can live in. Will she be able to get over her issues and give herself to Jacken? Will Jacken be able to prove to Emma that he is not like the guys in her past and is exactly who she needs in her life? You are going to have to read it to find out…

I personally had a difficult time getting into the book but yet there was something there that kept my interest peaked and made me continue to read a few more pages. I really think that it was the character of Jacken that had me refusing to give up on the story. He truly is a great character and an all around great guy. I found myself cheering for him and his happiness more than Emma’s. It wasn’t that I didn’t like Emma- I did- it was just that I preferred the characteristic traits of Jacken. I am happy that I read the book and do recommend it if you are looking for a quick second chance romance novel.

Emma meets Jaken Tanner on a flight from LA to NYC. Well, really it a "re" meet - since Jaken was friends & teammates with her older brother in HS. Truth be known he was also her secret crush - the man of her dreams - literally!

I really enjoyed the winding twisting road that this second chance story took me down.

Let me warn you, Emma has a herculean load of baggage. Yet, for me, I found her more real and even endearing. Yes, there were times that I wanted to hit her upside the head and tell her to get over herself. I did love how when she finally sorted out some of her issues that she came back stronger.

Jaken, well let's just say that man has the patience of a saint! I loved how he knew Emma was IT for him and even when things looked blackest he didn't give up on her.

Always love an HFN ending. This one had both laughter and tears for me so it was definitely a winner in my book.

Favorite Line from the book: "Our pasts perfectly crafted us for each other."

This was just an okay book for me. I appreciated what the author was trying to do with this story, but it all just fell short for me. For starters, I hated that the author never really describes what the characters look like. We learn that Emma is biracial after one of the characters asked if she's mixed. And we only know she has brown eyes and skin because Jaken says so. All we get to know about Jaken is that he's in shape (no shocker there as he's a NFL QB) and he has blue eyes.

So, I'm guessing he's White, but he could have just as easily have been mixed like Emma. There are no descriptions of what Jaken's dad or his son, JT, look like even though they're supposed to be the older and younger version of Jaken. I thought that Kaitlyn could have been left out of the story. Her and Vincent's drama didn't add anything to the story. It felt like filler.

I wish this book would have touched on more on Emma and her mom trying to work their relationship. Emma talks briefly here and there about how she felt like she was ignored by her family and made to feel like she didn't fit in. We see her mom and Kaitlyn fat-shaming/making comments about her weight/eating habits on separate occasions.

Also, Emma is paranoid in her relationship with Jaken because she was her boss's husband's side chick and she's carrying some guilt and shame from that. However, when she talks about with another friend over lunch, it comes off kind of like she's sorry, but not sorry that it happened. Her boss promised her one thing but did another and the husband felt emasculated. So, they were both kind of sticking it to her boss by "sticking it" with each other.

The plot and premise of the book are great and kept waiting to feel like I was getting into the book and connecting to the characters, but none of that happened. This was just one of those rare reads where I just didn't like the book. It's an ok read, but not something that I would recommend or even give a second read.

That said, I am still interested in trying out some of SAM's other works to see if I will like them better.

Love me some Football hotties!! This one kept me turning the pages because of the meet cute/long time crush/scattered cast of characters.
I rooted for these broken crazies to heal and figure it out together.
My only complaint is the end left me feeling unsatisfied...an abrupt climax and then The End. It was all tied up, no cliffys here...but just wanted a little more 'feels' before closing the back cover.

*I was given an ARC by Xpresso in exchange for an honest review*

Emma Dennis is a football fanatic. Well, she's a Jaken Tanner fanatic. He's a friend of her older brother, but he's also the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, you know "America's Team". Since the age of 12, she's been in love with him and watched him (from a distance) grow up and grow into one of the most successful high school, college and now NFL players to ever lace up cleats. Fate seems to be smiling on her when, returning from a 3 year trip overseas, her seatmate is none other than Mr. Football himself.
The story is about their journey to build a relationship and work through the issues (mostly Emmas) that threaten to keep them apart.
This is my first book by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle and I was completely blown away from the beginning. Honestly from about chapter 2 I found it nearly impossible to put down. I loved, LOVED Jaken. He was so sweet and so sexy. I can't begin to say enough good things about him. He knew what he wanted and he wasn't going to stop until Emma was his. I loved how he was always reassuring Emma of his feelings and he was so patient and loving with her... {SWOON}.
Emma was beautiful and educated but lacking in self confidence due to her family's history of cheating and some things that had happened in her own past. One side note about Emma that I thought was extremely interesting - one part of the story mentioned she was biracial, which is really rare. Kudos to the author for writing such a diverse main character!
Speaking of characters, all of them - primary and secondary were very well developed, and the storyline flowed perfectly. I loved how the backstory was leaked in a little at a time to keep you hooked up until the end.. it was just really perfect!

Sydney Aaliyah Michelle scores a very solid 5*****wickedgoodstars from me on this one and I will definitely recommend it and look forward to reading more from her! -asw

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I must say I am conflicted with this book. I do like the authors writing but it wasn't a page turner for me and if I didn't have to write a review I would have skipped a lot. The writing is good and the story lines are good. I just couldn't connect with the characters and somethings went too fast.

Jaken - He is the the quarter back for the Dallas Cowboys and well he is just dreamy. He is hot, confident, and a lovable guy. You will love him.
Jaken does have some Alpha Male tendencies.

Emma - has a past and you don't get to much info on it the beginning. I think if we would have more info on this in the beginning than that would have helped. I just couldn't connect with her.

What I know - she is smart and moved back home from China (unexpectedly). You actually have to finished the book to get more insight.

The book overall is ok and for most i think you will like it. I just needed a little more.

A New Season hit every one of the things I love and then some with this addictive story. Emma and Jaken ended up stealing my heart even through all the ups and downs they went through. I adored Jaken and his sweetness. This man is steadfastly loyal and unbelievably hot. The only drawback for me was Emma’s lack of confidence. That lack of self esteem had me wanting to shake her at times but when she finally opened her eyes and realized her own value I needed up feeling so freaking proud of her.

Growing up family and friends have a way of influencing your life even if you don't want it. That influence can be like red soda staining a white t-shirt. No matter how many times you bleach it you still see traces of the stain.

Emma is a young woman running. She comes from a non-traditional family that has an interesting way of living out their existence with their significant others. They have helped shape her outlook on life and love, but it is not for the best. As an adult she begins to acquire skeletons until they are as big a baby. Emma's personal life choices leave her feeling unworthy and uncertain. It's not until she meets her childhood crush Jaken on a flight by chance that she starts to recognize the need to clean out her closet for more than herself.

As a single father first and a professional football player second. Jaken is the all american man with everything going for him on the inside and outside. Yet, Jaken has never given or known true unconditional love with a woman. It's no matter to him because after one hand held during flight. One long deep conversation well into the night. One night of warmth from sleeping in each others arms. And more than one goodbye morning kiss that leaves Emma feeling weak in the knees. He is a gone and openly putting himself out there for the possibility of love.

I have enjoyed connecting with Sydney's characters in her previous works, but lacked the ability to do so with "A New Season". The lead characters development wasn't very strong in my opinion. I thought Emma's skeletons could have been a bit more scandalous giving the secret she was running from. The torment she carried inside about her families life choices could have left larger and darker shades of gray on her life.

Not to make any comparisons to Sydney's previous work. I hope to fall under the magic spell her writing can put me under once again. I felt it in the "Hope Series". I am looking forward to the next book release because I am sure I will feel it again.

I would give this book more than a 5 star rating. This is a very well written book with amazing characters that have great chemistry. The characters are well developed and the buildup of background information keeps you hanging on to see what exactly is going to happen next. This book has suspense, intrigue and talks about a very difficult subject of cheating and how it affects everyone involved from the person that it is done to to the people that are involved in one way or another. There are no excuses for the cheating in this book and for that I loved this book even more. I did found that this book was very heartfelt, honest but yet emotional. It will make you feel emotions that you didnt know you had unless you have been in the cheating situation. I did enjoy that sports was a part of this book. Jaken is swoon worthy, would make a great boyfriend. I love how he is written as a great single father and i absolutely love the relationship build he has with Emma. Emma is a strong person who just needs to get over the past and move on to a better future. She finds that life is what she wants to make it when she gets with Jaken and realizes that she is not such a bad person after all. She travels along way from the person she was in the beginning to the person she was in the end. I believe that makes her the hero of this story in my eyes. This storyline was well written and amazing to read from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book and cant wait to read more by this author

I received this eARC via Book tours for an honest review. Thank you!

This is my first book to read from the author and it was reading very quick, from cover to cover. I rate the book with 3,5 stars.
So the story is full of many sexual scenes as the book cover is suggesting, I liked that there was nothing really crazy, the characters are built up to their roles. The story is about two adults who meet and fell in love, their not so proud past in relationship matter gives both of the parties a hard time to establish the relationship into a way they would prefer. Emma is the one who's not sure whether she wants to date and not get into troubles/ hurting each other feelings her childhood secret love and Jaken is a guy who is successful, have been married and divorced, know what hes looking for and tries his best to fly around Emma.
Nice, have a read!

Emma is running away again. This time she is running back home. Not knowing what to do yet, she heads to NY to visit her mother but on the plane she can't believe it when she is sitting next to her first crash and pro quarterback- Jaken. After talking and reconnecting Emma & Jaken seem to hit it off but Emma knows those cant work. She isn't the kind of person Jaken should be with. She isn't the person he thinks she is. So the story goes....
Ms. Aaliyah write a love story that keeps you going to the end. Little by little Emma's secrets are revealed. Her inter voice shows up along they way giving you an insight to how she really feels. My one big problem....so not a Cowboy fan but otherwise, enjoy!

This book was great, kept me interested and I could not put down. This book brings back the memories of your high school sweetheart.

The book couple was very strong and I feel in love with Jaken. He was so strong and would not give up. I believe that he really made this book. Emma was a character that I wanted to believe in and it was tough to grasp on to her character.

The one thing that I had troubles with were some of the edit errors. I had a mobi copy and that could be the reason there were so many.

A New Season by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle is a fantastic book! I have read a couple of books by this author and she didn’t disappoint me at all. A New Season is a single dad romance. This book explores the budding romance of Emma Dennis and Jaken Tanner. Emma worked as a professor assistant and Jaken Tanner is the Quarterback of the NFL Dallas Cowboys.
A New Season begins when Sydney and Jaken are on the same plane flying to New York. Sydney had just got let go from her job and Jaken was going to film a commercial. Sydney has a crush on Jaken since she was younger. Jaken is Emma’s brother's best friend fellow football player, Vince Robinson. They spend the night of Sydney’s birthday reminiscing and the next morning they shared a kiss. Jaken had to leave to fly back home to Texas. Emma will be driving home after celebrating her birthday and visiting relatives. The pair agrees to see each other once Emma arrives home.
Will Emma and Jaken explore the chemistry that is scorching hot? Will Emma and Jaken give in to the passion? Will Emma and Jaken get their happy after? You will have to read A New Season by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle to find out! This book had me laughing and also had me in my feelings as well. A New Season is such a romantic and sweet book. It has plenty of romance and love scenes that an avid reader of romance like me loves to read.
Make sure to grab a copy of A New Season by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle! You will not be disappointed at all! Sydney Aaliyah Michelle has a treat just for you! I will definitely be reading more of this author’s books!

Emma has been off in China by her very lonesome student teaching, when she came back early with a story which she's not sharing with anyone. When she gets home, she's surprised to see the secret crush she's had growing up & still very much still has said crush, as a welcome committee, especially since he's now a star QB in the NFL. Jaken was a super sexy hero, with his own secrets, and while they are going on a new journey together, though both are hoping their secrets don't come out. We all know that secrets don't make friends, plus, they always come to light. Here's the thing though, Emma's secrets are really hurting her big time, and you'll see why. I wanted to hug her while trying to get her to talk to someone because of the demons plaguing her every step, with her self-worth taking a big beating. Oh, and Jaken has a tiny human named JT, who did his best to steal the whole show. Will these two create a bond that will be able to withstand the secrets?! You'll have to hit that one click button to find out! As for me, between the football element (my other happy place) & the romance between a hero/heroine that I LOVED, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

4.5 Stars for A New Season
Sydney Aaliyah Michelle is a new author to me and after reading A New Season I have to wonder why she hasn’t crossed my path before now and I will certainly be checking out her previous books as soon as time permits .
Emma is a woman who has been running from her past but she is now back in her home town and she runs straight into the man she had crushed on since her youth Jaken Tanner....
Jaken Is everything a woman wants, a fit NFL Quarterback, hot and totally swoon worthy but he is also hiding secrets, so will the secrets pull this couple together or will they tear them apart....
This book and man ticked all my boxes, Jaken’s love and interaction with his son JT touched me on so many levels, this is a emotional read about learning to trust again and it that drew me in from the first page and captivated me throughout. If you love second chance romance and single dad stories you will want to one click this gem of a read. Looking forward to reading more from this author

A New Season has a really good moral to the story, I can see where the author was going with story, so I was definitely picking up what she put down. I had a very hard time connecting with the characters and some of the situations though, there were times that I understood "why" the author put those situations in the story, but wondered if it could have been tweaked a little better. I will say that I thought that our main man Jacken Tanner was a glorified GOD though, the author DEFINITELY did a great job doing amazing justice for this man. I am all but ready to have a fan club for him!

All in all, I really dug the moral of the story and Jacken's character. If you are looking for a book that is a little heavy but with an amazing and supportive main man to help with insecurities of our leading lady, I believe that you will like A New Season! I give it a 3.5 outta 5 stars overall!

PS: I would like to thank Sydney Aaliyah Michelle and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

A New Season by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle was an easy read about Emma, who is running home from her problems with her previous employer. While on the flight home she runs into her high school crush, and favorite pro football player, Jaken.

While Emma enjoys her time with Jaken she is scared of being hurt and played. She knows that groupies come with the gig of being a pro football player, She doesn't know if love is enough to keep Jaken happy.

A New Season is a romantic conflict, Emma has self-confidence and family issues, while Jaken has baby mama drama. Neither of them wants the other to know about their issues. Jaken does everything in his power to make sure Emma feels loved, but Emma is always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Sydney Aaliyah Michelle did a great job of showing conflict and keep you guessing on whether they would have their happy ending. I loved every second of it.

4 star review of A New Season by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle

Sydney Aaliyah Michelle is a new author to me. There was a fair bit going on in A New Season and I was a little lost at times.

Emma is a woman with a past, a woman who has no choice but to run. Returning home she comes face to face with her childhood crush,
Jaken Tanner, an NFL quarterback.

Jaken is everything a woman wants in a man, totally swoon worthy and a man who ticked many boxes for me. Does Emma dare take a chance at happiness with Jaken or will she allow her past to destroy her chance at happiness?

Both Emma and Jaken have secrets, fearing that neither will accept the others. This was a bit of a roller coaster read that drew me in. I really loved the interaction that he has with his son JT and it was heartwarming to see how all in he was as a single father.

A story of second chances, love and family; of taking a leap of faith and trusting that the person you fall for will catch you.

Life sometime has a way of giving us a zinger. For Emma, when everyone had turned against her and her actions had further thrown her life in turmoil, the last thing she expected was to find her childhood crush. Both Emma and Jaken had their own issues with their past, both carried loads of guilt. We watch as they work thru their guilt and deal with the issues and try to make it work. He is everything she ever dreamed of literally. She is the one love he always wanted but never thought he had a chance of finding.

This author does a wonderful job of showing the angst and troubles both Emma and Jaken are dealing with. She shows the struggle and how each moved impacted the other and how strong they were together, but separately, they couldn't stand. Love the characters who show and share their human side which makes you cheer for them to work it out. Well done.

This is the first book that I have read by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle and I LOVED it!!! I couldn't put it down! Jaken is a single dad raising his son alone and he also happens to be the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Emma's been living in China the past 3+ years, suddenly decides to move back home to Dallas without telling anyone why she moved back...what is she hiding? While on her way back the States, Emma decides to meet her mother in NYC and just happens to get seated next to Jaken on the plane. He recognizes her immediately - they knew each other growing up (little did he know that she always had a major crush on him!). They have an immediate connection to each other, but can their relationship survive their pasts and how their past is influencing their decision today? The author does a great job making you feel what they are both going through. Great read!
