I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire.

For some mystical, magical reason, early in the process, my vampires appeared with enormous beautiful wings and it has been the most amazing experience to include flight in my novels, in both battle scenes and scenes involving spectacle. My special vampire world, published by St. Martin's Press, is introduced in the first book called, ASCENSION (12-28-2010). The second book, BURNING SKIES (May of 2011), opens up the world a little bit more. And even as I write this, I'm on the final draft of my third novel, WINGS OF FIRE (September of 2011). What a thrill it has been to live with my ascended vampires through the creation of this extraordinary, multi-dimensional world!

For more information about my unique take on the vampire mythos, check out my website at carisroane.com and my book release video on YouTube by putting in the search phrase, Caris Roane Ascension.

With every hope you'll enjoy reading my books set in the World of Ascension, All my best, Caris Roane

This is the second instalment in this authors latest vampire series and we again return to the corrupt and violent land known as Five Bridges. This is a place were those altered by the Flame drug all reside but trust is in short supply and trickery and evil doings are unfortunately an everyday occurrence . Vaughn is a Border Patrol Officer but recently all he can think about is the tempting witch Emma. Both are rare in that they seek to protect the weak and fight the corruption and debauchery rife in their lands but they seem to have become entangled in something with far reaching consequences . It's well known that a dark Wizard is heavily involved in sex trafficking but when Emma and Vaughn discover three murdered teenage girls the race is on to stop these atrocities once and for all. Can they take down the slave ring when so many seem involved? Just how can two so different people work together but to succeed they will have to discover just what being a team really means !
I really enjoyed this short story and thought that it really started to further open up this world that Ms Roane has created. Vaughn is such a driven passionate guy with a past that haunts him. Emma knows what it's like to lose someone she loves but still fights to hang on to her humanity in spite of everything. As different species they should be enemies but the chemistry and passion between them just cannot be denied. A huge plus for this reader was the ending as it brought hope to what is a pretty nasty world. Yes I'm really starting to get a feel for this series and will happily read more.

When surrounded by corruption, it’s best not to trust anyone but for Officer Vaughn and Emma Delacey they’ll have to trust each other if they want to survive a madman’s torture in this thrilling paranormal romance.

Not only is Emma a witch and Vaughn a vampire but they are from two different patrols so when they are both called to the scene of the same crime, warning bells start clanging and the reader can’t help but get caught up in all the thrills as they join forces to survive all while trying to keep their distance from each other. The chemistry is a super-heated volcano ready to erupt and the sex scenes are explosive but the relationship has a few strikes against it not to mention that their lives could end at any moment which makes for some very intense encounters. Strong, captivating characters pull you into their story while the fast paced, smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with lots of suspense, excitement and romance.

There’s lots of emotional tension throughout the story due to personal demons as well as the dangerous situation that Vaughn and Emma find themselves in while daring rescues and dangerous enemies adds lots of excitement to the story and in this case some extra help from other patrols and a few ghosts add a little spice to the all the tension. The intriguing events ensure that the reader doesn’t want to miss one second of the non-stop action and thrills and the well written scenes and details provides vivid imagery that makes it easy for the reader to picture each and every scene with unexpected twists keeping the readers and the characters on their toes.

Once again, Five Bridges is the place to visit for excitement, passion and sexy characters and I can’t wait to read Dark Flame.

A handful of months ago, border officer vampire Vaughn and witch Emma DeLacey celebrated their successful partnership to rescue kidnapped human teen triplets from traffickers in Five Bridges where corruption was rampant in every corner and species. There celebration ended in a night a bliss the pair decided couldn’t happen again as their species were natural enemies, that was before border officer Conner and witch Iris announced their relationship to the territories.

Since then, alternating between Vaughn’s damage from his inability to save his sister when he first became a vampire and Emma’s still healing heart after the brutal death of her shifter lover, Vaughn and Emma thought of each other. Tonight, the pair was summoned to the same disturbance at an Elegance territory graveyard. They found the same human teen triplets, beaten, broken and dead, on display.

Above their heads, a row of corrupt witches and vampires draw weapons to kill Vaughn and Emma but he’s able to fly them to safety before the gunplay begins. In the safety of Emma’s house their interlude results in a strange occurrence, Aware off Becca’s affinity with ghosts, the triplet’s spirits appear and relate Vaugh and Emma have a mission.

Flame On, 😞 Not Long Enough.

An exciting well told romantic paranormal fantasy, that wasn't long enough.
Mrs Roane offers up a unique take on a new world that kept me engaged throughout.
All human's turned into Vampire's, Witches, Fae's & Werewolve's, due to an alter drug are now separated from the rest of the human population, & living in the city of Five Bridges.
Emma a Witch & Vaughn a Vampire, find themselves fighting together against the corrupt & evil of Fire Bridges.
Normally there is no love lost between the different factions of the paranormal brings, but fate & love have different plans for these two.
Looking forward to the next story in the flame series.
Highly recommend you give this book a chance, you won't be disappointed.
4.5 Stars, only because I wanted it to be longer.

Another winner !

I combine to love ties books and the new take on the legends of the witch, vampire, werewolves, and others. The women are strong and independent, yet also aren't afraid to show their softer side. The men are hot and well built. They have no problem working with their women in their fight for the greater good. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

This is Vaughn and Emma’s story. Good people living in a very corrupt world trying to help others. They have stayed in touch and stayed friends after a passionate night together a while back. As with Connor and Iris, they are set up for elimination and the fight for survival and to take out the warlock who wants them dead begins.
Hot read with plenty of action as they confront the bad guys and their feelings for each other and discover their power together to fight.
I am really liking this series as I do all of hers I’ve read.

Amethyst Flame, The Flame Series #2, 170 pages, a standalone with an HEA and no cliffhanger.

Vaughn, an alter vampire Border Patrol Officer, and Emma, an alter witch Tribunal Safety Officer, met two months earlier when they rescued teenaged triplets from the sex trade in the Phoenix alter province of Five Bridges. They had a celebratory night, then agreed to go their separate ways, remaining friends. Now, both are sent by their respective bosses to The Graveyard, the massive central area of the alter province, and discover the dead victims are the triplets they previously rescued. Then corrupt border patrol officers begin to arrive at the scene and Vaughn and Emma realize they have been set up, barely escaping with their lives. They believe Wizard Loughry, a powerful Amethyst Flame addict, is behind the kidnappings, murders, and the assassination attempt. With a bounty on their heads, each night could be their last. Both have lost people they love to the violence of the alter world and swore to never let another person get close again, but they will have to learn to work very closely together if they have a chance of surviving.

This is another great installment of the Flame Series. I loved the way Vaughn and Emma move past their fears and prejudices to build on the strengths that come with opening themselves up. The author has done a wonderful job of world building and character development, adding information about Five Bridges and the altered with each book. She has also introduced strong secondary characters that could easily star in books to come. I can't wait for book three!

Amethyst Flame is the second book in the Flame Series. It could possibly be read as a stand alone although I would read the first one to get a bit more background.

This book centers around Vaughan and Emma. Vaughan is a vampire and Emma witch. They have been working together for months and have a strong friendship that turned into more one night. They both backed off and decided it couldn't happen again but they are still friends and very attracted to each other.

The world in this series is a very violent place where sex trafficking and corruption is the norm. It's called five bridges and it's where all the supernaturals are sent once they become supernaturals through a drug that some take by choice and other's are either forced or don't know it's been put into something they eat or drink. Both Vaughn and Emma have tragic backgrounds, Vaughan having lost his sister year's ago and Emma's lover (a shifter) was murdered. However, neither has given into the corruption and they still fight for what they believe in.

I would have loved to read the buildup of Vaughn and Emma's relationship. We are told they are friends and talk almost every night but I would have liked to see their relationship grow instead of just being told about it and then thrown into the point where they are more. They went from we can't be together to in love so quickly and it would have been more believable if we had actually read about their relationship before.

Still it's an interesting world and this book has lots of action, adventure and steam.

This book was given to me in return for a fair review.

Amethyst Flame is the second story in the Flame series set in the supernatural world of Five Bridges. As with Blood Flame, this story revolves around a vampire, Vaughn, and a witch, Emma, natural enemies in this fascinating world where corruption abounds. Vaughn and Emma had "hooked up" previously for a night after rescuing three teenage girls, destined for the underground sex and drug trade. Although both knew nothing further could come of their relationship, they continued to talk on the phone keeping in contact. When they're set up to die, Vaughn and Emma's attraction grows as they partner to stop the ruthless spellcaster behind the kidnapping of teenage girls, and their feelings start to take over. An extremely well-written and fluid story, Amethyst Flame was a delight to read. With strong characters and the introduction of characters who will, undoubtedly, have their own stories in the future, the plot flows along nicely as our couple fight evil, with a little help from their friends. To me, it seemed more rushed than Blood Flame, with some repetition I could have done without. Iris and Connor's story was, no doubt, hard to top. However, that being said, it is still a very enjoyable read, with a lot of surprises along the way. Filled with action, hot intense encounters, the intertwining of powers, "helpful" ghosts and some new interesting characters, Amethyst Flame has left me hoping the third in the series comes quickly.

Book two in the new Flame series by Caris Roane didn't stand up to what I expected after book 1.  It had moments where it was so melodramatic. The "Oh, we are doomed to fail"before they even started mentality that the characters kept coming back to got a bit annoying.  It was almost like they expected to fail, so why bother hoping for a different outcome. Then there were times when they were intimate that they wouldn't stop talking "Oh, how I love this about you" and "Oh, how I love that about you. It got a bit tiring. The final battle and resolution was good. But the plot was a bit flat. They kept going on about how they didn't have a future, so they didn't want to contemplate their feelings and thinking about how if only they could lock themselves away and hide they would be able to tell the other person how they truly felt.  I enjoyed the final battle in the maze and how they worked as a team and fought to survive. They spent most of the story saying how they were doomed to fail, but as soon as they committed to the final battle, they fought hard to survive and love each other. I enjoyed the world of Five Bridges, so I do think the series has potential, I just for some reason didn't connect with these two characters like I did the characters in book 1.  These two characters fell flat for me.

Amethyst Flame is the story of Vaughn, a vampire and a witch named Emma. Neither Vaughn nor Emma likes what they are, and neither thinks a relationship is in the cards for them. All that changes after they are set up and realize they are being targeted by a powerful and wealthy enemy. Despite their differences they had become good friends along the way and talked often. Their conversations were on the phone far away from one another. Once they are banding together trying to survive, the rules change. There is a connection between them that neither Emma nor Vaughn can fight. The more time they spend together the stronger it becomes. The characters are great, the pace is fast, and I love how the characters evolve as the story plays out. In five bridges there's so much violence and death it takes the hope from the people who have to live there. But Vaughn and Emma are fighting for the greater good and they both deserve happiness. I found myself really rooting for the couple in their fight against the evil wizard, Loghry. I did get a little frustrated when it seemed the characters were giving up rather than being confident they could succeed. Besides that though, I really enjoyed the story and enjoyed the twists and surprises at the end. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and I can't wait to see these amazing characters start to change five bridges for the better. Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review.

The second in the Flame series, this is the story of Vaughan and Emma, a vampire and witch who have worked together for months. A friendship had grown between them before it became more than one night, which they both swore would never happen again. However, their friendship remained and when it becomes apparent that they are marked for death, circumstances change.

The world of Five Bridges is a very violent place and sex trafficking is commonplace. Vaughan's sister disappeared years ago and he has never been able to find her. Emma has had to deal with her own share of violence but this hasn't changed either of them from wanting to make the world a better place.

There was only one bit that had me confused which could be as simple an explanation as the Amethyst Flame was screwing with her mind, but there was one bit when Beth called Vaughan 'Nathan', and he answered her, saying "I'm here."

This is a fast-paced and exciting addition to the Flames series. Although all of the action takes place in a short amount of time, this couple has had the time to build up a connection, which always makes for good reading. Definitely recommended.

Alter world Five Bridges

Vaughn is a vampire Officer with the Crescent Border Patrol when he is called to the deadly place called the Graveyard because of a triple homicide. Warning bells go off for him when he finds out that Emma Delacey is also summoned to the same crime scene. In the alter world of Five Bridges he knows a relationship with the beautiful witch will not be good so he tried to suppress his desire for her. The problem is that no woman since he has become an alter vampire has called to him the way Emma does with her auburn hair and green eyes. Vaughn must face his deepest fears as an evil wizard hounds them both, especially as it seems Emma is the key to saving Vaughn’s sister from a madman’s torture.

This is proving to be a very good series that is very different than most vampire stories. The world that has come alive in the first two books in the series is proving to be amazing. The book is filled with action that doesn’t stop until the very end. It will be interesting to see where this series goes as it has some great secondary characters that if they have their own books will be fascinating. Readers will find the book hard to put down once they start as they will want to find out what is going to happen next and just how things will work out for Vaughn and Emma.

Amethyst Flame is book #2 of Caris Roane's Flame Series.
Do you like stories with vampires, or witches in it?
Do you like action along with your romance?
Do you like hot sex scenes, or hot sexy vamps?
I asked all these questions of the person reading the review for the first book of the series, Blood Flame. So did you like that story, you'll like this one just as much.

I enjoyed Amethyst Flame just as much as book 1, Blood Rose. If you missed that one, no problem. The characters in the first book are mentioned, but this really is a stand-alone book. So give this one a try and if you like it go back and read Blood Flame.
So again we have vamps, weres and witches and a necromancer (or dead talkers as they're called in the book). We have action and more action. We have the corrupt others, the good others. And of course there's the hot hot sex scenes, but tastefully done.
And if the vamps keep going to .. well that's a spoiler but if you'll get it if you read the book .. there's not going to be any good ones left in their sector. Just a random thought there.
As I said in my Blood Flame review, you know you're going to get the HEA but it's getting there that's interesting.

This story is centered around Border Patrol officer Vaughn and Trib officer/Witch Emma DeLacey. Extremely attracted to each other, they agreed to not see each other anymore because each of their alter species being enemies, but they keep getting thrown together. An old, powerful enemy wants revenge upon them for interfering with his skin trade business. Vaughn and Emma should be able to work together, feelings and all, because they don't expect to live through the next couple days.

I love this story! The only thing I didn't like was Emma CONSTANTLY talking about Max, her murdered shifter boyfriend. She couldn't talk about her feelings for Vaughn without mentioning Max. I think Vaughn was secretly irritated with it too. Vaughn is a gorgeous, muscled, uber sexy vampire. He's very sweet to Emma. I have a new appreciation for vampires and their pointy teeth. His soul is tortured because of the whole incident regarding his sister. Aside from the whole Emma/Max thing, this was a great story and I can't wait for the next one.

Amethyst Flame was a quick and easy read, the flow was very smooth and fluid. While there are some things that you just know when you begin reading this second installment in the Flame series it wasn't as predictable as the first book. There were some twists that it took me a while to figure out and I really enjoyed the reveal when it came. Full of racy scenes and packed with action definitely something for everyone. The introduction of some new characters adds to the growing story line. Vaughn and Emma have a great rapport with each other and great give and take relationship even when it seems that they are at odds. The closer that they grow to each other the more they want to protect each other but end up in the same place no matter how much they say they don't want together in the end they just can't seem to help themselves. Unlike the first book I really felt like I knew who and what the characters were right away, the descriptions were excellent and didn't leave me guessing this time what they looked like and then having to change my idea of what they looked like in the middle of the book. I truly enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more of this series.

I was gifted Amethyst Flame for an honest review.

Caris Roane doesn't disappoint her readers in this 2nd book of The Flame Series, Amethyst Flame. 5 star read all the way.

The story continues with Crescent Patrol Officer Vaughn this time. Still set in the Alter Corrupt world of 5 Bridges.
Vaughn, who is now a vampire, is called to the Graveyard, a ditch in the middle of the area of 5 bridges, to investigate a triple homicide. When he gets there he finds that Emma Delacey, the woman who helped him rescue the 3 girls, now dead, 2 months ago. He still remembers their one night together.

Emma and Vaughn both feel like this is somehow a trap. Is it? And how did the evil Loghry find the girls again?

From the moment they realize something is off and have to take to the air to survive, this is when the story really takes off. You will be introduced to vampires, warlocks and silly ghosts.
Mates will be found, power will be shared, and just maybe, the long lost sister Vaughn thought was dead, is alive.
So can't wait for what else will be in store for the Flame Series..Awesome characters and plot...Loved it

Vaughn and Emma live in a corrupt world. They are determined to stop the evil. Vaughn is a powerful vampire who is a Border Patrol officer. Emma is a strong alter witch. They are enemies. Can they work together to defeat their common foe? The wizard Loghry wants them dead. They are a disruption that he needs to eliminate. This story is an exhilarating adventure filled with danger and intrigue. The heated sexual tension between Vaughn and Emma is amazing. These two forge a bond that allows them to shared each others powers. Their connection was compelling. I was pulled into the story immediately. Emma is a strong willed heroine who will stop at nothing to bring down Loghry. She is determined to save his innocent victims. Vaughn finds himself attracted to Emma. He has endured so much but he knows that he can trust Emma with his very life. When they are together they are unstoppable. The Flame Series is skillfully crafted. The stories blend perfectly together. I'm looking forward to more books in this series. I love the paranormal element. Caris Roane created an alter world that kept me on the edge of my seat.

All I can say is Ms. Roane has another Award Winning Hit Series. This book was phenomenal, I loved it..
Emma Delacey is an alter Witch Tribunal Safety Officer working the Five Bridges.
She has been working with Vaughn who is an alter Vampire and Officer for the Border Patrol. Together they rescued teenage triplet girls from a trade ring. Though it's tabu for a witch and vampire to get together, when celebrating the triplets return Vaughn and Emma realized they had feeling for each other. And the Hot Steamy Sex begins.
They both knew almost everyone was on the take so when they were both asked by each of there Bosses to go to The Graveyard they did. Where they found the triplets murdered and tortured, only one person could do this the Wizard Loughry, who was addicted to Amethyst Flame.
Vaughn feelings went on alert when he realized Loughry wanted them dead too. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

Emma and Vaughn have worked together to save triplets from the sex traffic of Five Bridges, and they are now reunited over the body of the girls they thought were safe. That's only the beginning for them, as a powerful wizard with a lot of connections is determined to have them killed sooner or later.

The second book in the Flame series focused again on a vampire/witch couple, this time with history. Emma and Vaughn have know each other for a while when the story begins, so the trust is immediate, and a bit more believable than in the previous book. Because of that bond, the couple is more in tune with each other's power, and I really liked how it allowed for a better use of the power sharing the couples enjoy in this world.

Some things come a little too easily in the book, like the glimpses of the future that are somewhat too convenient in the fact that the protagonists follow them blindly instead of makign their own decisions, but the story stayed enjoyable, with a nice romance and an expension of the world.

was given an ARC for an honest review. I REALLY like this book!

We have sworn enemies, Vaughn an alter Border Patrol Officer and Emma and alter witch who is a Tribunal Safety officer. Vaughn has an intense attraction to Emma and has taken to spying on her and while Emma feels the attraction she knows they are enemies and avoids him. Suddenly thrown together in what feels like a set up they decide to work together to find who is setting them up and why. They must battle forces they never thought they'd have to to stay alive. Who wants them dead? Will they be able to see if the attraction can lead to anything? Is there anyone they can trust? What about the triplet sisters? Can they save the people being kidnapped and sold into slavery or killed?

This story is action packed and I loved meeting other characters that Vaughn and Emma work with and seeing characters from the first book again. This is a great series and the books can be read as a stand alone.

Vaughn, a vampire Border Patrol Officer, and Emma, a witch Tribunal Safety Officer, are both sent by their bosses to The Graveyard, and discover the dead victims are the triplets they previously rescued two months prior. Vaughn and Emma realize they have been set up, barely escaping with their lives as corrupt border patrol officers arrive at the scene and start shooting at them. They believe Loughry, a powerful wizard and Amethyst Flame addict, is behind the kidnappings, murders, and the assassination attempt. Working together is hard as they need to trust each other.

I love the story and the main characters. This series gets better and better with each book. The story flows smoothly and the development of the characters is so strong, you think they are real. If you haven't started the series, you should.

In this one more danger and intrigue await paranormal style. The troubles are far from over and they are still in some deep waters where things are concerned. Vaughn and Emma also seem to find themselves drawn more together in work and where love is concerned. As their relationship keeps building they find that they also have some added strengths that come with their combining. They are also too late for three girls but doesn't mean they still can not help. Those that are corrupt are getting bolder and the one behind it all coming closer. This author will take you along with these two as they strive to conquer, getting help where they can with love that builds them stronger. Some incidents will have you on edge holding your breath on the outcome. When the walls come down and the war peaks the exciting part of all is who is left standing.

Review for AMETHYST FLAME

So far we have dealt a lot with witches and vampires. This story throws in a powerful dark wizard that needs to be taken down…but it won’t be easy. Vaughn and Emma, vampire and witch respectfully, are again thrown together because of death. And once again, we have a pair of the good guys being targeted for death by the bad guys. They escape of course, but what lies before them may still kill them. Each has already lost someone they loved, one through death, the other kidnapped. But these two are determined that no matter the future, they will keep pushing on until death takes them. It is also hard finding loyal friends that are willing to help them, but they each have some who are more than willing. Take the trip with them, while they push their limits and their boundaries to do what is right.

This is part two in the series, but could easily be read as a standalone. The second half is action packed and unpredicatble, but I have to say I was a little disappointed in the first half. It's written well enough, but I felt the story of the couple was too similar to that of the couple in book one. I had a constant sense of deja vu, and it was off putting. Even some of the love scenes were too much alike. I stuck with it though, and it did eventually find it's own identity.
Some aspects of the 'world' the series is set in still doesn't make complete sense to me, but I'm sure things will tie together better with each future book. Hopefully there will be more details about the flame dugs and alter serums, where they come from, why they're used etc.
