After the meltdown of her marriage, Jessica Pierce is ready to get on with her new life. She moves to Pax Island, where she spent carefree childhood summers, in hopes of creating some waves in her flat existence. Kissing a mysterious stranger before speaking to him adds a nice ripple. Falling into bed with the guy before knowing his name is closer to a tsunami. There’s something so familiar about the man, even after she learns his unfamiliar name. He makes her comfortable in her own skin. He makes her laugh. He makes her feel. But these new feelings rouse old nightmares. And the nightmares reveal memories of a boy with Teegan’s face and a different name, in a past Jessica wishes she hadn’t buried so deep.

GOING BACK by TL Watson is a quick read—a short, sexy novella that keeps you turning the pages. One thing that made this romance different and that I loved was how Jessica (great name, btw) let go of her inhibitions before realizing who Teegan was and what he’d meant to her past. It was like Ms. Watson wanted to show us the woman Jessica had become, the woman she was, before tackling their backstories and having them work through their issues. Although there are some heavy topics in this novella, I was so happy to read how the characters reunited and found their happily ever afters.
This was a nice quick read, hot and sweet and perfect for a weekend at the beach. It was a little confusing however as to what exactly the problem was about having known the hero in the past. There was reference to a rape and I was having really horrible feelings there for a bit. Then there was talk of a brother in prison, but it turned out that wasn't it either. And with those out of the way, I couldn't see any problem at all. Luckily, in the end, there wasn't one. I do love a good happy ever after.
