"Can you not stand so close?” Oliver Blackthorne asked the wolf shifter.
“Why? Afraid you might be unable to control yourself and jump me?” Donovan smirked.
“No. I’m more afraid of fleas jumping on me!” Oliver snapped. His life was getting more complicated by the day. All Oliver really wanted to do was eat burritos, smoke a few, and chase ghosts with his team at Restless Spirits. But no, everyone wanted a piece of him. His aunts were hell bent on making him compete in the upcoming Ascension and now he had some horny wolf shifter sniffing around him and all but humping his leg!
“Cool, we can get a flea dip together!” Donovan smiled at his fussy mate. An unrepentant horn dog and proud of it, finding his mate never truly crossed his mind. He was sure the shaggy haired witch would fall for his wolfish charm and right into his lap. It would seem, however, Oliver was wearing his sassy pants and Donovan was going to have to rip them off… with his fangs!

If you’re reading “The Oswald Witches” series from Mathew Ortiz, you won’t want to miss this latest installment. If you haven’t read any of the series yet, I suggest you get busy! As any of you following along will remember, we met the Oswald Witches in some of Mr. Ortiz’s earlier works and then they progressed into their own series. They are definitely near the top on my list of his works and shouldn’t be missed.

In this latest installment we shift focus to Oliver Oswald Blackthorne, the youngest male witch in the current generation. We had his brother William‘s story in book one of the series “Avaritia”, and his brother Duncan’s story in book two, “Luxuria”. Now it is time to focus on Oliver, who was actually the first Oswald witch I recall reading about when he and his ghost buster team at Restless Spirits helped release a captive ghost in another of Matt’s series.

Oliver had begun developing additional powers at the end of book two and has been being groomed by his aunts to compete in the upcoming Ascension to see if he has what it takes to be the head witch in charge! But they didn’t count on the arrival of Donovan Temple. Donovan is a hot werewolf who is the Beta to his brother who is the Alpha of their pack. Donovan is instantly smitten with Oliver and all over him, but Oliver isn’t as enthused. When they figure out that Oliver is Donovan’s fated mate, things don’t go so well. Particularly on Donovan’s family side where the Alpha isn’t that comfortable with witches, and certainly doesn’t want one in the family!

There is also another storyline running through this one, which I prided myself in figuring out mid book, but we didn’t get back to that storyline until the Epilogue. Bad Mr. Ortiz! Leaving us waiting for more! And I will be. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, as well as a follow up to my favorite Ortiz book “Desdemona Darkly”. When I met Matt in person at the recent Rainbow Con he shared with me his plans for future books, and let me tell you, he is going to be a very busy boy keeping up with them all!

I highly recommend this book, and urge you to get some loving on for this author. It is great to follow along with a relatively new author like this and watch his growth as a writer. Each book gets better! I particularly like his humor and writing style. One last note on the humor, my favorite character name in this book was Nakajima Jackson…say it fast enough and it sounds like Noxeema Jackson, Wesley Snipes’ snappy black drag queen character in Too Wong Foo….so all I pictured was a snappy black drag queen every time I saw the name. Not at all what the character was written as, but I smiled every time I said Nakajima in my mind.

I was wondering where the story would go after book 2, and was blown away with this one! From the first page to the last, I was hooked. I read this in one sitting because I couldn't physically set my kindle down. What a great read! The world the author has created is so unique and creative. If you love paranormal stories with a m/m twist, this is it. The characters are well developed, they are more complex than most people I meet. There is so much happening in the details, you feel like you are there in Oswald House. I loved the way Oliver is pulled forward and thrust in the spotlight after being the humdrum, nothing special, younger brother. Everything about this book worked for me.
There has been a rift between the clans since Oliver's mom had had a falling out with the Alpha. Times were changing for the wolves and they need strong alliances. Making peace with the witches could benefit them greatly. The Temple brothers were sent to try to work out getting the witches to be allies again. Donovan Temple, the beta of the pack, was left to work on that at the witches house. Little did he know that his mate was a solid. Afraid of his brother's hatred for solids (nonshifters), he couldn't find a way to tell him. Oliver never thought he would find his bondmate in a shifter, but it was undeniable. Too much was on his plate with the upcoming trials for Keeper, and this is one more distraction. And what will his family say? How could they even be together if he is thrust to the top and Donovan is beta for the Cold Creek pack? Another big problem in the house is Duncan. He is slowly dying from the loss of Zeke. The family needs to decide if they intervene or allow Duncan to slowly commit suicide. Don't think this is the end of that! And what is lurking to hurt the witches this time? The suspense will nearly have you jumping out of your chair!
This book is everything great about reading. I loved escaping into this incredible world for a bit. I am addicted to this series and cannot wait to see what comes next. If you haven't dived into this series, you should! It is brilliant!

OMG!

This is the first time I've read a book by Mathew Ortiz, and I loved it. I gave it five stars, and I will recommend this book and the previous books by this author to my fellow readers. This book had a lot of twist and turns but I really enjoyed the plot. Get the book and read it, it's a good read.

Mathew Ortiz is getting better and better. Lots happens in this book. It is very much part of a series. If you read it as a standalone you will be pouncing on the earlier books. I can't wait to see what happens next. He is being really hard on Duncan - I can't wait until that's all sorted out. It's so sad!

I don't quite get the ending there. This can't really be "the end" and either it ended on a bad cliff hangar or in a really weird place. The first book held so many ch promise I got them all.
