Koen: Quills from the Raven's Nest - An Epic Dark Fantasy

Rate this book
The empire demands an heir. Koen's wife cannot give him one. The witches can.

Prince Koen the Gray did not marry Rachel of Thorne for love. She was meant to be a treaty sealed in flesh, binding the conquered Northlands to his father’s empire.

Instead, she became his home.

And now the empire may take her from him.

In Lucardia, bloodline is law. A prince must produce an heir, and a princess who cannot bear one can be quietly erased. Koen knows what his father’s empire does to problems that threaten the order it built.

So he goes in search of a miracle.

Whispers speak of the Nyth Cigfran—the Raven’s Nest—a coven believed burned from the world. Their miracles are not worked through spells, but through flesh. If anyone can give Koen the heir he needs to save his home, it is them.

With Erikini, an orphan girl who hears the dead, Koen follows the witches’ trail into the realm’s darkest corners. Yet every answer draws him deeper into their design, and every miracle exacts a price.

To save the woman he loves, Koen is willing to give them anything.

The witches intend to collect.

About the author

Scott Austin Tirrell

Scott Austin Tirrell writes dark fantasy because apparently the real world doesn't contain enough dead people, ruined faiths, and gods with questionable motives.

Most of his stories take place in Lucardia, a world with a long memory and a rather serious problem with its dead. Its people have been taught many comforting things about history, religion, power, and what happens when the reaper’s sickle swings. Unfortunately, much of it is wrong.

Scott is less interested in heroes than in complicated people who stumble into mysteries they probably should have left alone—and then have to live with what they find.

When he isn’t writing, Scott wanders old cemeteries in search of character names and thinks about fictional people as though they have personally inconvenienced him.

He lives near Boston with his wife and maintains a healthy distrust of ravens.
