Only one of the legendary Raithlin would try. But trying is not succeeding - or even surviving. Lanrik is young and untested, but confident in the time-honored skills of the Raithlin scouts. He attempts to slow the horde long enough for a warning to reach his home city. But a single act of treachery, timed to devastating effect, tests him as much as the enemy.
He forms a bold plan against overwhelming odds to protect all that he loves. But his choices lead him ever deeper into a life-changing struggle. Dark forces of sorcery and witchcraft are on the move. So too are the powers that contend with them. The conflict draws him into a quest for the safety of the whole land and toward a girl who comes to mean more to him than anything. He enters a world of magic: sometimes beautiful, often perilous and always unpredictable.
This boxed set contains all four books of the completed Raithlindrath series. As a bonus, it includes A Spell of Swords, the prequel to the Amazon Epic Fantasy bestseller Raging Swords.
I am a man born in the wrong era. My heart yearns for faraway places and even further afield times. Tolkien had me at the beginning of The Hobbit when he said, ". . . one morning long ago in the quiet of the world . . ."
I love to read high fantasy and epic fantasy novels, and I have a passion to write, to weave a story with words that draws the reader into another world.
A tale of faith, courage, and the will to save as many as you can.
A story told with a steady pace, rich environment, a glorious history & characters that can be related to. The telling is dark and ever tainted with doubt. The heroes are faulty and unlike most novels. The world building is magnificent and creative. You can almost hold the malice of the south in your hand, as well as the hope of the north. The heroes are the best of all the peoples of Alithoras. It's fast paced at times but steady. The cover is deceiving, but we'll worth the read.
I liked this I’d thought, at first, that the writing was slightly wooden but having gotten more into the book(s) realised there was an intentional archaic feel to the cadence - which really works. I also like the Druidic feel to the ‘sorcery’ aspect, even if Aronloth is obviously a Myrrddin analog but I suppose so was Gandalf- anyway an enjoyable read. Looking forward to the ‘Brand’ series.
I chose a 3 because even though I love lore, it was as if the same short story was repeated over and over again made into many "books". In the end, finally, I was so bored it was difficult to finish them all.
Really enjoyed this series from Robert Ryan with interesting characters and intriguing story line , if you have read any of the authors books before and enjoyed them then I suggest this series is for you
Simple clean fantasy. Enjoyed first book well enough. Couldn't really get into the second one. Writing and plot were a bit to simple to continue to hold my interest.
