Lisa Jackson is the number-one New York Times bestselling author of over ninety-five novels, including the Rick Bentz and Reuben Montoya Series, the Pescoli and Alvarez Series, the Savannah series, and numerous stand alone novels. She also is the co-author of One Last Breath, Last Girl Standing, and the Colony Series, written with her sister and bestselling author Nancy Bush, as well as the collaborative novels Sinister and Ominous, written with Nancy Bush and Rosalind Noonan. There are over thirty million copies of her novels in print and her writing has been translated into twenty languages.
Before she became a nationally bestselling author, she was a mother struggling to keep food on the table by writing novels, hoping against hope that someone would pay her for them. Today, neck deep in murder, her books appear on The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly national bestseller lists.
With dozens of bestsellers to her name, Lisa Jackson is a master of taking readers to the edge of sanity—and back—in novels that buzz with dangerous secrets and deadly passions. She continues to be fascinated by the minds and motives of both her killers and their pursuers—the personal, the professional, and the downright twisted. As she builds the puzzle of relationships, actions, clues, lies, and personal histories that haunt her protagonists, she must also confront the fear and terror faced by her victims and the harsh and enduring truth that, in the real world, terror and madness touch far too many lives and families.
4 novellas 4 authors. I really enjoyed a couple of the stories, the other two were okay. It was nice to have short stories that I could read between other books I was reading. 3.5 stars.
The first story in the book with terrible. So boring and almost made me stop reading the book. Went to read reviews to find if the other stories in the book were the same, but reviews mostly said the rest of the stories were good. I completely agree. If you come across this book, skip the first story and read the other three. The second story was decent, but the third and forth were actually pretty good.
I enjoy reading summer romance novellas, and enjoyed 3 out of the 4 of these. I would recommend skipping over Summer Memories... I kept trying to like it, hoping it would get better, but for me, it didn’t. The other 3 were sweet stories of new romance and rekindled romances. Some hit close to home. As a bargain book for $5, it was worth it.
When a snowfall of over 13" is predicted, this is one of the selections from the library. It includes: "His Bride to Be" by Lisa Jackson, "You Again" by Elizabeth Bass, "Return to Hampton Beach" by Mary Carter, and "Summer Memories" by Holly Chamberlain.
Reads like Reader's Digest books. Quick and easy, but forgettable love stories.
This collection of 4 short stories focuses on plots based on love in unexpected situations: posing as a fake fiancee, running into an old love, healing from a broken heart and seeking out an old love.
Some of the stories we cute and others were just so-so. But each of the stories are packed pull of romance and all the roadblocks that come with it. Quick, cute romance reads.
Lots of chic-lit here to your heart’s content and lots of happy endings. Summer Memories and Return to Hampton Beach are the best of the four included in this volume.
You Again had a cute premise of reuniting with the one who got away, an exotic setting, and funny hijinks involving an engagement ring. But it was brought down by awful characters, which got us off on a bad start. I really liked Meredith. She's sweet, and apparently the only one who appreciates the trip to Peru. Her sister is the least supportive person on the planet who believes they're being supportive. She thinks exchanging pleasant conversation with an ex after seven years is some unspeakable event and should be avoided at all costs! Well, that's kind of hard to do when they're on vacation together! Sam and Meredith had a summer love after graduating from college, but she dumped him for legit reasons. Now he's dating an awful woman named Gina, and just aahh! I hated them both.
In the first chapter Gina calls Meredith fat and gross just because she's not a size two. Sam also calls her stupid because she did her undergrad in theater and never went to graduate school. Just because she's not academic like him, doesn't make her unworthy. They just have different goals and passions! I did not want Meredith to get back with that idiot, even if his fiancée was a mega-bitch. I might also add, that I hate the horrible girlfriend trope, since it's suppose to make the cheating acceptable. Sorry, it's still not. Also, one of the other women in the group acted like a high school gossip queen rather than a 30+ year old woman, and it just made no sense other than to create drama.
Summer Memories by Holly Chamberlin ★★★☆☆
Summer Memories was very different than what I was expecting, but not in a bad way! It actually made it much more interesting and unlike other romances that I've read. Ellen is heading back to her home town for a Summer of solitude. She's recently broken up with her fiancé and just wants some time alone to get herself back together. Of course, it doesn't work out that way. Her elderly neighbor, Cora, takes it upon herself to invite Ellen to all kinds of social events and (not so) slyly tries to pair her up with the local artist, Rob. I love matchmaking stories, so I thought this was really cute even though the story was very slow. Cora is a funny old woman!
What made this one stand out to me was that twist! I didn't see it coming at all, and I don't think I've seen it done before. At least not quite like this. The title makes much more sense when it gets to that point. I was annoyed at how Ellen reacted to the situation. Although, I suspect I'd behave in a similar manner, but less dramatically. It's definitely a strange situation to be in, but I'm happy that it worked out for them. They'll have an interesting story to tell for sure!
Return to Hampton Beach by Mary Carter ★★★★☆
Return to Hampton Beach is my favorite of these four stories! It's so full of drama! It's like if Gossip Girl had focused on the parents instead of the teens! Celia's father has just died, and in his will he states that he wants her to take his ashes and return to Hampton Beach where they lived for five years. He also wants her to reconnect with her first love, Jacob, whom she hasn't seen in twenty years. Apparently a whole lot of crap went down the last Summer they were there, and it's finally time for Celia to get some closure and maybe some revenge.
I always find it a bit silly when adults act like overly dramatic, gossip fueled teenagers, but I was just so caught up in this story that I didn't care. What happened between Celia and Jacob when they were eighteen was quite messed up! I would love a full length story just focused on that! Celia's revenge on the woman who ruined her father's life was sweet and subtle, and oh so satisfying! Seriously, there is a lot of delicious drama, and I loved it!
His Bride to Be by Lisa Jackson ★★★★☆
I love fake relationships and His Bride to Be is certainly a good one! Hale Donovan wants to acquire a new company, but the owner's daughter is convinced they're meant to be. Before heading on a working vacation with them, he hires Valerie to be his personal assistant and fake fiancée. She's not too happy with her new assignment, but she needs the money for her mother's medical bills, and it's just two weeks, right?
I really enjoyed this one! I'm just a huge fan of staged relationships turning into real ones, and I'm also kind of a sucker for the rich guy/poor girl trope when done right, which it is here.
Elizabeth Bass’ YOU AGAIN involved a trip down memory lane to Meredith and Sam when they reconnected 7 years after their roommates with benefits summer.
Ellen returns to her former hometown to nurse her wounds in Holly Chamberlain’s SUMMER MEMORIES. She wants to be alone, but the local matchmaker has other ideas and pairs her up with a successful artist.
Mary Carter’s RETURN TO HAMPTON BEACH is another reunion story. In this tale, Carrie and Jacob get a rare second chance to be with the first love they never forgot.
Lisa Jackson’s HIS BRIDE TO BE dealt with people getting in touch with who they were. Hale, a business shark, and Valerie, his pretend fiancé, try to close a deal Hale really wants. But somewhere along the line, the pretending falls to the wayside and each of them has to wrestle with personal demons on the dangers of falling in love.
A nice, solid read. Each novella took about an hour, giving me time to read and relax at my leisure. My favorite characters? Cora and her sidekick, Mrs. Camp, in SUMMER MEMORIES. They seemed so genuine, so personable, and so determined to believe in the power of love. All of the featured couples had to grow into the idea, so it was nice to see true romantics in action.
Maggie Toussaint/Rigel Carson for Muddy Rose Reviews
Summer Days by 4 authors: Elizabeth Bass, Mary Carter, Holly Chaberlin and Lisa Jackson Knew this would be a good read because of the 4 authors who contribute a short 100 page story. All seem to be based on the same theme. Man and woman break up to only find later in life their paths meet again and they reunite after hashing over the days gone by. Love the places each of the stories takes us to: Peru, Maine, NH Beach, and and the different careers each has that we can learn from. Last book His Bride to Be is when Hale who runs a company has a position open and he wants to hire a woman to be his bride to be on a cruise up the western coast. The man he's trying to impress wants his daughter married and Hale wants no part of that... Money goes a long way when you have none....Lot of misunderstandings and you wonder if the wrongs can be righted.... I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest review
I love anthologies, it's perfect read for me which has short, sweet novellas. Even though the book is about summer memories, it was a lazy read for me on a rainy day and I enjoyed it completely. We have His Bride to be by Lisa Jackson, You Again by Elizabeth Bass, Summer memories by Holly Chamberlain and Return to Hampton beach by Mary Carter in this book.
You Again by Elizabeth Bass -
Cute story about second chance. I enjoyed the story and it's characters.
Summer memories by Holly Chamberlain
This might be my least favorite one in the book! I could not relate much to the characters, were just I don't know, dull.
Return to Hampton Beach by Mary Carter -
I loved this short story of Celia n Jacob! Nice sweet story with all the entertaining factors.
His Bride to be by Lisa Jackson-
Enjoyed it, the cruise ship journey! Characters were great and the story was entertaining.
This paperback contained four novellas by four authors You Again by Elizabeth Bass. Meredith (who has always dreamed of going to Macchu Picu) goes on a trip with her sister Janie. Pg. 60 street food -- metal cart... traveling grill w wheels. Skewers ... sausage (??), but entire small animal... Cuy. ... its little cooked head attached. "If she didn't remember her childhood pet, he wasn't going to remind her.... He couldn't help but think of Buttercup." Pg. 104 on the train. Pg. 114 the view ;-) The love story seemed a little hokey, but the setting was great.
Summer Memories by Holly Chamberlin
Return to Hampton Beach by Mary Carter
His Bride to Be by Lisa Jackson This seemed like a PG version of 50 Shades of Gray -- he rich young man who made all the rules, the young girl in need of a job.
There are four short stories by each author. Lisa Jackson wrote His Bride to Be where a wealthy businessman needed a fiance to help clinch a business deal. He did not plan on falling in love with the woman but fate proved otherwise. Elizabeth Bass wrote You Again where two former lovers meet again after seven years. Although the man is almost engaged, he still is attracted to his old flame. Mary Carter wrote Return to Hampton Beach where a young woman returned to the beach community where she was the happiest. Her first love was here and she finds he still is and is still single. The attraction between them is still there. Holly Chamberlin wrote Summer Memories where a young woman traveled to the coast of Maine where she met and fell in love with a landscape painter.
During the summertime, I enjoy relaxing beach reads that while reading I feel transported to the shore. Surprisingly complex storylines are uncovered and they prove to be not as lighthearted or fluffy as I originally intended. Summer Days and Beach Season are collection of stories by famed chick lit/romance authors and offer readers storylines such as mystery, family relations, past loves, second chances and a renewal of spirit.
Summer Days’ stories included: Elizabeth Bass’s You Again, Holly Chamberlin’s Summer Memories, Mary Carter’s Return to Hampton Beach and His Bride to Be by Lisa Jackson. Beach Season offered Lisa Jackson’s Brass Ring, Cathy Lamb’s June’s Lace, Holly Chamberlin’s Second Chance Sweethearts and Rosalind’s Carolina Sun.
I found the first three stories in this anthology to be very boring & was only going to rate this book with three stars.. After reading the last story by Lisa Jackson I decide to give the whole book four stars.. Lisa Jackson's story kept me very interested in the characters & what was going to happen next... Once I started reading "His Bride to Be" I found the book very hard to put down... This one story alone deserves five stars...
Always enjoy a book by Lisa Jackson and her latest was not a disappointment. What made "Summer Days" even better was it contained stories by multiple authors besides Lisa Jackson, giving me the chance to experience some new authors. Their stories were equally as enjoyable as Jackson's. Give this book a try and I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.
