Nutmeg Archer has had enough of being invisible in a family of six girls—especially since the man she’s pining for doesn’t notice her, either. When she finds out he needs a mail-order bride in a hurry, she hatches a plan to get him to notice her, one way or another.
Sam Allen gave up his career ambitions and left New York for Tombstone, Arizona, and a new start. He enjoys his job as a bartender—and is very good at it. But because he knew his mother would not approve, he told a white lie that he never thought would be found out. When his high-society mother unexpectedly decides to make a trip to visit, he needs to make that fib a reality—and fast.
Sam is dismayed to discover that he has only one positive response to his ad—and to say that he is surprised by who it is is an understatement. It also presents him with a dilemma—what to do when the only person who will marry him is someone he shouldn’t be marrying?
This book was a fast read but was cute and innocent. All the characters were very well mannered, and there was no real drama in the story. I think the characters were well-rounded, and it was a pleasant read.
THEY MAKE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC TOGETHER Another wonderful story of Wild West Frontier Brides. What I love is that you get to know the various characters in these stories and it is fun seeing people from previous books. Sam Allen is a bartender at Tripp and Sadie's restaurant, The Occidental. When he finds out his mother is coming from New York for a visit, he goes into a panic. He told her he was married and a business owner. Trying to find a mail order bride on short notice isn't easy. Meg Archer has had feelings for Sam, but it is as if he doesn't even know she exists. Answering as a mail order bride, he agrees to marry this stranger who answered his ad, what a shock to learn it is Meg. Beau Archer won't even allow her to court even though she is an adult and of age. Can these two pull off their deception and convince his mother they have been married for two years? How many people will be involved trying to help a friend? So many secrets, can two people find happiness and healing? This story kept the pages turning with witty dialog, entertaining characters and heartwarming moments. I love that they end on an HEA note and also with a lead into another story.
This is the third book in the series, but the first one that I read. I could tell that there were things I was missing, but the author mentioned in passing any important information that I'd need in order to understand the family dynamics.
Sometimes the writing was a little stilted, and the dialogue could be weak. There were some plot holes that make me think, "No way could that ever happen." But I still gave it five stars! It was a sweet, clean romance. I loved Meg's optimism. Often times a "mail order bride" is nervous, although excited, to start her new life. Meg just knew from the beginning, "This is going to work." And I loved the confidence.
This was a light, sweet, fun book that was quick to read and a great break from every day life. The day after I finished reading I kept thinking, "I want to sneak away and finish that book!" Only to remember I'd already finished it. I wanted more!
. This 'free' ebook through Kindle Unlimited definitely was a sweet and clean tale about a mail-order bride. Both parties agreed to become a partner in marriage.
I must say that the women in this series are tremendous role models. They were independent, strong, and respectful toward their families. Each worked together with their husbands as a team.
The men are hard working, loving, and handsome! Who wouldn't want to spend time with them?
The proofreader must have dozed through their responsibilities to this series, since there were multiple grammar errors.
In this tale, Sam and Nutmeg are drawn together and face their individual struggles on the road to marital bliss.
A clean tale, able to stand on its own, and a surprise twist of an H.E.A.
Sam and Meg (Nutmeg, really?!). I realize I'm in the minority here, but I didn't care for this book at all. I couldn't have any respect for a man that would lie to his mother for a couple of years, saying that he was married when he wasn't, and not being willing to tell her what he does for a living. It's not like he was robbing banks or anything! This whole mail order debacle comes along because his mother is coming to visit and he needs a bride. Meg has apparently been in love with him for a long time, but we don't see any of this. Most of the time in the book is spent on other characters, not so much on Sam and Meg. I didn't feel the connection between the two of them.
(Initial review) It’s a bit silly, nothing really exciting happens and the typos are annoying, but on the other hand it’s relatively cute, totally clean, and I got it for free. Rounding up the rating to 3*.
(Second reading, 6 years later) I couldn't remember a single thing. I was very surprised when I wanted to rate it and saw I had done so before. I feel like it deserves 3.5* this time, just for being sweet and clean, even if forgettable.
The Bartender's Mail Order Bride: A Sweet Western Historical Romance Book 3 <\strong>
The love story of Meg and Sam. For the pass two years Sam has told his mother that he was marry and now she is coming for a visit. He need a wife and a new job. Now he is looking for a mail order bride who will be okay with being marry to a bartender. Meg has been in love with Sam for a long time and she want yo be his wife. So she wrote to him and tell him she will be his mail order bride. Her father does not want her to marry or met men. Can Mag marry Sam without her father's blessing? Great story.
I was captivated by this story to begin with. Sam was in need of a bride because he had told his mother that he'd been married for two years. He hadn't been. Now, she's coming to visit and he was panicked. As his friends help him find a mail Order Bride, Meg, helped in a different way. She put herself in the running under an assumed name. When it comes down to the last few days before his mother arrives, Meg's plan comes to fruition. Will this work? Loved the characters and storyline.
Sam, a bartender, wanted a bride because his mother was coming to visit him. He had received several letters letting hem know that because of his job that they wouldn't consider. Meg had been in love with Sam a long time but he didn't see her as a woman. Sam received a reply to his request for a mail order bride. After reading her letter he decided that he would propose to this lady . This is a good book and everyone who like a good romance should read this book.
I believe this is because of the love that has grown in Nutmeg's heart for Sam from the first day they met. Sam's mother come to Tombstone and he needs a new profession and a bride right away. Nutmeg steps up and becomes the mail order bride he needs. As much as they try to ignore their feelings love grows and everyone sees it but Sam and Nutmeg. A fast read and very endearing.
CINDY CALDWELL HAS HIT A HOME RUN WITH THIS OUTSTANDING STORY OF THE WEST AND ROMANCE
I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF MAIL ORDER BRIDE STORIES OF THE OLD WEST, AND WITHOUT A DOUBT, I FEEL THAT THIS ONE WAS THE BEST. I LOVED THE WARM AND LOVING CHARACTERS AND THE INTRIGUING ATTEMPT OF BETH AND SAM TO DECEIVE HIS MOTHER WHEN SHE TRAVELS FROM NEW YORK TO VISIT THEM IN TOMB STONE, ARIZONA TERRITORY.
I mostly just read this series because it fits a certain reading challenge that I undertake every year. The stories are all really tame, and this one was as well. I liked the heroine in this one but would have definitely preferred to have known more about the hero or perhaps get his side of things as well. This was okay for a short and light read.
I liked this clean romance, but didn't give it a higher rating because I found the premise and characters' reasoning throughout the novel to be a little strange. There were also many typos and it could have used another proofread. The characters were interesting and I'm glad everything worked out in the end.
I really enjoyed Nutmeg Archer's antics and her determination to win over Sam Allen's heart. The lengths they go to in order to trick his mother is quite diverting. I did not understand how if his mother arrived on the train on a Sunday (which was part of the storyline) how could they eat at the restaurant on Sunday, which was closed on Sunday (also part of the story line)?
Trying to be someone they aren't got Sam in a rush to make it a reality. Boy did things get messed up. Meg really loves Sam. This is an opportunity to make her dreams come true in the long run. Don't try to fool your mom. You have to live with guilt.
What a great series. I love reading stories that are based on the story, not gratuitous erotica disguised as that. The story was believable, interesting and great fun to read.
The Bartender's Mail Order Bride by Cindy Caldwell is a clean delightful story. Its a stand alone but book 3 in a series. I liked this story it has a little twist to it. My free opinion. Thanks
