“Hello?”
“Good afternoon, sir. You’ve just won a tropical vacation! Your trip will include...”
I hastily interrupted the caller. “I won? I never win anything!”
I wanted him to feel like I was actually excited so I could reel him in. I know their game. These resorts have people calling all over and telling everyone they’ve won a vacation. The minute you get there, they start the sales pitch that never ends. It’s not a vacation. It’s a five or seven day infomercial. I was determined to make sure this company never wanted to call me again.
“Yes, sir! Your tropical vacation will begin with two days and one night in sunny Florida, where you will board a luxurious cruise...”
Time for me to start my own pitch. “Wait. Did you say Florida?”
“That’s right!”
“I can’t go to Florida. I was banned from entering the state of Florida back in...oh, I forget what year it was."
