The power of the magick between them can’t be avoided. But, Scott O’Hearn thinks the beautiful Taylor wolf is doing a fine job of just that —avoiding him. Vegas Mates Krystal Shannan:

Saving Margaret is book two in the Vegas Mates series by Krystal Shannan. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by the author.

I read book one of this series some time ago, Chasing Sam, and fell in love with Sam and Chase. While each book in this series is about a different couple, a main thread runs throughout so it would be beneficial to read the series in order.

Margaret Taylor is a wolf shifter. While at the wedding of Sam and Chase, Margaret is asked to dance by probably the biggest and hottest guy she has ever seen. It doesn’t take but a few minutes for her to feel the magick. This man, whom she just met, is her mate. The pull is strong. He isn’t a wolf, though. He’s a bear shifter. While it is not prohibited for mates to be other species, it is not a usual occurrence. She barely knows this man, though, and it is overwhelming. She has not had positive experiences with bears in the past. How does she know how he will treat her?

Saving Margaret Krystal Shannan:

“How could she ignore the connection they had. He’d waited over a century to find a mate. The magick pulled hard. She couldn’t deny him for long without driving herself crazy…him too.”

Scott O’Hearn knew Chase when they served in the military. Like Chase, his time was up and he was looking forward to a different life. He has waited so long to find his true mate and he is not letting Margaret go. Still, he will try to give her the space she needs to adjust. That is until he gets a call that there was an unknown scent of a strange wolf at one of her windows. He will protect her whether she likes it or not.

two bears fighting:

While wolves live within packs, enjoying constant company and always being in each other’s business, bears are solitary beings. Scott’s cabin is high in the mountains. How could Margaret leave her pack and adjust to such a quiet, solitary life?

No matter what the shifter’s animal is, the animal within is like a second living, breathing being. The human personality is usually the one in charge but the animal and the human side actually converse inside the mind of the shifter. It took me a bit to get used to this but I ended up liking it. When Margaret’s wolf recognized Scott as their mate, she helped Margaret to accept him.

Nordic Thoughts: Bear and wolf's unlikely friendship...:

On the down side of this, it is possible for the animal side to overtake the human side. When this happens, bad things follow. Such is the case with Sam’s mother, Renata. Her wolf wants revenge for wrongs done to her by the council and so many others. She is vowed to get her revenge.

There is a council that rules all shifters. The council has gotten much too powerful and a rebellion is brewing between the shifters and the council, with Renata right in the middle of it all. The only good thing about this is that it is bringing all shifters together for their cause.

“It will take all of us working together to completely break the hold the Council has on us.”

“Change is coming, love. We all have to compromise and bend a little.”

Wolf Spirit.:

I enjoyed this. Scott was one sexy bear and once these two finally came together, they definitely sizzled. I’m also enjoying the underlying battle for power and I look forward to seeing what happens next in the third book, Waking Sarah.

Margaret Taylor has recently found out that the man she has had a crush on for years is not her mate. As a female shifter, she would recognize her mate after she turned twenty five and now she knows for sure that he is not for her. On the heels of this life changing revelation is her good friend’s wedding. While all she wants to do is sit in a corner and sulk, she is drawn out onto the dance floor where she meets a bear shifter. Not just any bear shifter, her mate. Margaret hasn’t had a lot of luck with bears so she is slightly scared of him and isn’t sure that she should mate him. The bear shifter has no doubts. Scott O’Hearn has just retired from the military and he is longing to go home. Before he heads to the mountains he visits Vegas to go to his best friends wedding. When he scents Margaret, he knows he has found his mate and he isn’t leaving without her.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. I freaking LOVE bear shifters. There is just something about a tall, gruff burly bear shifter that just makes me happy and Scott is no different. He is almost seven foot tall of awesomeness. He’s sweet and kind but can also kick butt with the best of them with his military training and bear strength. When he and Margaret get together they are funny, sexy and fun to read. I really enjoyed how Margaret’s pack was always showing up at the house and interrupting them. It takes some time and effort but they do eventually do the deed and it was super hot.

This is the second book in the Vegas Mates series and picks up just shortly after the first book but is about a different couple. While you don’t have to read the first book there are some things that aren’t explained in the second book as thoroughly as in the first so you should read them in order.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. I did occasionally get lost in the characters because there are so many. They don’t always take up a lot of page space but they are significant to the story since the often reoccur. I almost felt like I needed to keep a spreadsheet on who they all were and how they are connected since the packs have so many families that inter-marry. Also, one thing that was a little surprising, however, is the violence. Many shifter books have fights and such but this book is pretty violent and *slight spoiler* quite a few people die. I was surprised and shocked with where the story went at the end of the book but I am now more excited to see where Shannan goes with the continuing story arc. I will definitely be on the lookout for the next book.

When Margaret, a female werewolf, learns of the violence that has occurred between shifters, and that more violence is being planned, her world is shaken off course in a most disturbing way. She has always counted on her father, the pack alpha, for guidance. But in the midst of such upheaval, she must put her trust in a shifter whom she has just met... a bear shifter, no less! Her only experience with bear-shifters has been frightening so she is hesitant, to say the least. Bear-shifters are fiercely independent, and notoriously aggressive creatures. Living mostly in remote, mountainous regions, they lack an understanding of pack life, and are intimidating to the most formidable of werewolf. And yet, Margaret feels drawn to this one. At 6'11" tall, Scott has just walked into Margaret's world, and is about to turn it upside down.

Upon their first meeting, Margaret's urge is to run and hide. In fact, that is exactly what she does! But Scott won't take no for an answer. And to further complicate matters, Margaret's own wolf is screaming out to her that Scott is their mate! A crossing between shifter species is rare, but not unheard of. What will her parents think? And fear keeps creeping up on her ... fear, based on a frightening experience from her past ... an experience that is about to catch up with her. With a war brewing, and faced with an uncertain future, will love prevail? And how will a bear and wolf's pairing affect her own pack? These are just some of the challenges she and Scott must face as their growing attraction pulls them together at a time when the world seems to be tearing them apart.

I loved this book! As the second book in the series, it picks up right where the first book leaves off. Filled with great characters, both familiar and new, Saving Margaret is an exciting and fast paced read that you won't want to put down! There are plenty of twists and turns that I did not see coming. Nothing is contrived, and the humor and wit flow naturally from page to page. I loved when Margaret's friend responds to Scott's aggressive nature by stating, "Take it down a notch or two, okay, teddy bear." Ha! I look forward to the next book in the series!

The second book in the Vegas Mates series is an intriguing and entertaining read that will have the reader craving more.

The instant attraction of the hero and heroine, Scott and Margaret, is super hot and only gets hotter throughout the story. While Margaret has a few misgivings about this mating, Scott has none whatsoever and he’s ready to move forward. The sex between the two is so hot it explodes off the pages burning the reader up.

The story takes up where the first book left off and while the author gives the reader enough information to catch up, you don’t want to miss the first one. The Vegas shifters have a very powerful enemy, one that will not hesitate to destroy them if they don’t fall in line. The action leaps off the pages and grabs the reader’s attention as Scott tries to protect Margaret from the Council.

The suspense builds throughout the story as the Vegas shifters prepare for war and on top of that they have another enemy that wants to destroy them all.

The author has created a supernatural world that is very engaging with suspense, action, romance, hot and steamy sex, and bewitching characters that the draw the reader in and keep their complete attention until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading future books in the series.

- 3.5 Saving Margaret Stars -

Saving Margaret is book two in the Vegas Mates series by Krystal Shannan. It has been quiet sometime since I read book one Chasing Sam, so I have to admit I was a little lost at the beginning, but once I got more into the story things came back and I enjoyed reading Saving Margaret .

Margaret, wolf shiter and only daughter of an alpha. She comes across self-sufficient and independent, with a softer side that we can appreciate. I liked Margaret. She has some of the same fears most women do when falling for a man.

Scott, bear shifter and army buddy of Chase. Scott comes across as a gentle giant, protective, and dominate all rolled together in a sweet teddy bear package. I liked Scott and I love bear shifters they are just so interesting to read about.

Once I got over the hump of the first few pages I feel back into the world that Krystal Shannan created with her Vegas Mates. Their was no shortage of action with the Council coming into town and stirring things up as well as a stocker going after Margaret. The author has created an intriguing society that the shifters operate in and the shifters themselves are interesting characters, in that the animal spirit feels like a separate entity inside them and the human part can communicate with the animal spirit. It’s interesting to read the conversations they have with themselves. The mate bond is an insta-know thing and the author does a great job explaining this and how the shifters know who is their mate. The only thing that got to me is what happens to the men that show up to capture Renata Demakis. I don’t want to say anymore only that most are trained in the army plus they are shifters, so they should have known better. You will just have to read to find out what I’m talking about.

If you have not tried the Vegas Mates series yet, I recommend you give it a try. Book one Chasing Sam is usually up for free. I’m curios to see how everything pans out and plan to continue with this series.

In the spirit of full disclosure I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Krystal has once again blended magic and shape shifters, with modern-day activities and romance. Margaret is a Were-wolf and an interesting character, well fleshed out and keeps the readers on their toes. Scott is a Were-bear, and a fabulous hero. Strong, sexy, charming in his gruff way. He’s Chase’s {the hero from book one} best friend and they were in the military together too.

I would have liked to see Chase and Scott interact a bit, but Chase and his mate Samantha were off on their own adventure. All in all it’s obvious from book two that MRS. Shannan has a lot of fun twists in store for us throughout the series.

My only complaint is the whole Maggie/Margaret aspect is confusing since Maggie is a common nickname for Margaret and in this series they are two different characters. The ending is a bit sad, but the future of the series is promising.

This is the second book in the Vegas Mates series. This one is just as good if not better than the first one. It is a regular size novel, so there is plenty of action. And man, what action it was. I was biting my nails, to yelling at my kindle, to sobbing right along with the book. I will try to make this as spoiler free as I can, but boy do I hope they find Renata and take that crazy, one fry short of a happy meal whacko out already! What a tough as nails, trouper Margaret is. I was so glad she was saved! I am looking forward to reading more books in the series. Very well written and just sucks you right in. Be prepared to read in all one sitting, so get comfortable and read this series! This book was given for an honest review.

3,5 because it is well written. I enjoyed the story over all, there were a few nits in it that got on my feminist nerve, but not enough to make me stop reading.

I will be reading more books in this series.

Love, danger and family

I enjoyed this shifter novella with a side of arcane traditions and shifter war. It had a good mix of danger, sweet moments, spice, and real life issues. Margaret is a wolf shifter who is a VIP manager at a Las Vegas casino. She is from a respected but not a prestigious wolf family. Scott is a bear shifter and recently left in the army with plans to return to his home in the Teton mountains. They meet at the wedding of their good wolf shifter friends, Samantha and Chase (book 1 in the series). To get to their HEA, they will need to deal with the impending shifter war with the supernatural council while dealing with the differences in their shifter norms and societies. Despite being short, the novella was well written and included characters with dimension in an engaging storyline. While the book’s main story arc resolves, the overarching story arc of the series is not resolved by the end of this book. While this can be read as a standalone as there is enough back story woven into the book that you will not be lost, do yourself a favor and read the books in order starting with book one. It will add richness and greater dimension to the storyline. I am looking forward to reading more in the series.

I have to say that book two of this series really kicks things into high gear. I do recommend that you enjoy the books in this series in order because there is an overarching story that is building and unfolding over the course of the series. Also, I want to give a heads up here that there are some situations in this book that could be too much for some readers or even triggers for others. These include kidnapping, , torture, sexual and physical assault. While I would not classify these situations as overly graphic they were fairly intense, so be informed before reading. I thought Margaret and Scott's story was quite engaging and filled with excitement. We do get a lot of those answers that were left unaddressed at the ending of book one and I was very happy about that. The romance portion of the book offered a enjoyable blend of emotion, heat, humor and sweetness, while the overall story is gritty and filled with danger, action, violence, murder, drama, suspense, some straight up crazy and the brewing war between the packs and the ruling royal council. I'm eager to check out more of this series.

I read this book as part of a box set which I own.

Margaret Taylor is a strong female wolf shifter. She has made her way up in the ranks at a local casino and is a casino hostess for high rollers. While attending her best friend’s wedding she is surprised to meet her mate, really surprised because he is a bear. They don’t live in the city with a pack, they live in the mountains, separated from each other by miles of wild country. How can that ever work?

Scott O’Hearn is not expecting to meet his mate at his buddy’s wedding, and he definitely is expecting her be a wolf shifter. He has been waiting for her for over a century and now he is determined to win her and keep her safe, no matter what it takes. When her life is threatened he has no problem joining in with the pack to protect her and hunt down the Council assassins and interrogators sent to get information from her about the whereabouts of Sam’s sisters. As a matter of fact, it would be his pleasure to teach those idiots some manners.

REVIEW
This story continues on from the first book and wow explosive it is.
Margaret is off to her sister Sam's wedding reception. Chase introduces her to someone he was in the military with and oh my he is a huge man, err bear?
Scott knows the minute he takes a whiff of Margaret that she is his and he almost ruins it and his bear won't have it.

This story then explodes with action, fear, hotness and so much more. The council is in town and things just are not going well. Margaret is taken and all heck breaks loose for Scott and his Bear. Can he get her back? Can Scott protect Margaret? And will she allow him too? So many emotions in this story. I loved it and can't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator does a fantastic job with each of the characters and makes the story come to life.

The counsel r FUCKING assholes! They don't want anyone 2 b happy and they can't stand change of any kind cause it'll make them look weak. It's very good that he found his mate finally. It's very sad at the loss of Peter and her dad and others in the pack. Renata needs put down asap!! That bitch let her wolf kill innocent people!! And she killed her own brother!! Even though she's been taken over by her wolf she hasn't been fighting hard enough if she really wanted to. She should b against the counsel 4 making her loose her true mate not Peter and others. Hopefully soon payback will b a bitch in the future and they will get their revenge and change will come to make things much better around the world. Hopefully Renata will get put down now especially since she killed the only people trying 2 save her!! Her daughter's need 2 stay the hell away from her

Margaret is disappointed the guy she's been yearning for is not her mate. At her friend's wedding, they're not going to let her just sit alone. A friend of the groom's, Scott O'Hearn, jumps on the chance to keep her company. At first touch, sparks fly. But, Scott's a bear! Margaret is a wolf and being mates of different species is unheard of. They are dropped right in the middle of a war between the shifters and The Council. At least they have each other. This is a fantastic story! I missed the first one and will go back and read it. I've got the third book, Waking Sarah, ready to go. I happily recommend this book.

Loved reading Margaret and Scott's story but it broke my heart what happened to her father and the other men. Wasn't happy about that. I couldn't stop crying and the threat to the rest of them from the council. Then there was what pour Margaret had to suffer. It was cruel and I wanted to jump in there and help her.

I honestly don't know if I want to read on.

It was an interesting romance, I quite liked their story but the back story bothers me enough I can't decide if I want to read it. Its not boring by any means but it is a little blergh when I think about getting into it, I can't see how the author is going to end that well and in a way that leaves me, the reader, feeling good about it.

As sequels to an enjoyable, solid series opener go, this one up the ante big time. It saw Chasing Sam's bet and raised the stakes higher than I could have hoped for and delivered when all cards were on the table. Sorry, couldn't resist a little poker analogy there since the series is set in Vegas.

Speaking of sequels, this is one of those that has to be read in order because the world building and beginning of the overall plot along with the intro to the characters begins in the first book. This one picks up almost where the first one let's off even if the main character focus changes. This story will contain spoilers to the first book so please don't read on if you care about that sort of thing.

The story opens with the wedding of Chase and Sam. Margaret, one of the Maggies, is at the wedding watching Chase's brother Nick in a forlorn manner because he doesn't even notice she exists. Before she can really begin wallowing, her friends pull her onto the dance floor and insist she dance with Chase's bud, Scott. As the huge seven foot male ambles toward her, she is struck with the shocker that he's a bear and this was a wolf shifter wedding and pack gathering. And when they start dancing, she realizes 'he's my mate'. Margaret is one of those thinking types and not good with surprises so she panics.

Scott can't believe his good luck. He's found his mate. Unfortunately, his eagerness frightens his mate into the need to put some space and time between them. His bear nature cautions him to be patient with their mate who is nervous about the changes he will bring to her life. A stalker in Margaret's life and unrest in the paranormal world cause Margaret to call out to him and for her dad and her family to accept him as her mate. Scott will protect what is his no matter what.

On a broader front, Renata's insanity and wolf taking over control of her has stirred up an uprising against the iron-fisted control of the Council. Renata's wolf schemes to destroy her own husband and his work because Peter has pitted himself against the Council. The Council will not tolerate the rebellion that is growing and the focal point is Vegas. Packs are forced to choose sides and nothing will be the same when all is said and done. The war will be so costly particularly on the wolves and other supernaturals of Vegas. Scott and Margaret are right in the middle of it all with Margaret being the bargaining chip the Council needs to control the wolves.

As I said, this one just upped the danger element now that things are coming out into the open. Even after reading the first book and knowing things weren't what they seemed, I was shocked at what those things were. Renata's human spirit being overtaken by her crazed wolf side was an interesting take. She's a villain in the story, but she is also one that can be pitied. The Council just seem like a past their sell by date bunch of blue-blooded power happy bullies.

The dynamics between Scott and Margaret were a nice breather compared to the heavy import of what was going on around them. I was a bit nervous when things got going between them because Margaret was leaning toward the 'stubborn and stupid' role with her 'I have to go to work' stance that put herself in danger and Scott too because he was guarding her. I was glad that she was a smart gal who saw sense. I totally understood her need to get a grip on things after the sudden appearance of Scott and the vast difference in their two natures and what that would mean for the future. One thing I really love about Krystal Shannan's shifters is that in this world, the animal nature is as sentient as the human nature and they converse within each other's heads. They are separate though they share the same body. It's like getting two characters for the price of one. In both these cases, Scott's bear and Margaret's wolf are the more intelligent and common-sense filled sides and plus plus, the animal natures have fun senses of humor and a horny need for their mates.

It was also great reuniting with many of the characters introduced in the first book and the hint that Chase and Sam will continue to play a roll in ongoing books.

The story leaves off in a good spot for the romance and leaves things wide open for that bigger conflict story arc to continue building after the tragedy that occurs near the end that leaves those opposed to the council picking up the pieces and tightening things up for what is to come. I am extremely eager to see what happens next- and to find out who are the next two to find their true mates of course.

This series is for those who enjoy a bit of darkness to their paranormal and spice to their romance.

I loved this book and not just because it has wolves, but it has bears and other supernatural creatures. What I really love is that the story is more developed from the first. I believe the author really grew from her first book to her second. There was so much more story and the style to the writing; was so much better, didn’t fell as rushed. Also this book explains more what we were missing in the first book. I still like how the shifters have their own animal voice inside, as if to guide their humans. I just love the idea, for the shifters, adds a little something extra to the story that makes it better for me. I enjoyed how the story has developed it has things going on and heading in interesting direction for the story. Also like how it give the point of view of both Scott and Margaret, so you can get to know the characters better, but for Renata, makes understand what she doing what she doing. Which I was surprised I think it was a good twist; I like how the author wrote the story; it has romance, action, great story line, with some really good twist, humor, and even some sadness. The author not afraid to give us a little bit of everything, just telling the story as it is.
I give this story five stars, because I love it. Loved how the story developed so much more and also for her characters, there was so much more depth to them. Emotion and background to fit the story better, so we could understand things better. There were times that I laughed out loud; I love when an author can do that, especially when I don’t expect it. I love Scott he just so sweet and possessive and Margaret is perfect for him. So if you’re looking for a good shifter romance, you really need to add this to your list, because you will really enjoy it. I am eagerly waiting for the next one in the series to see what the author comes up next.

I Absolutely LOVED this book. As of right now this one is by far my favorite! I just adore Margaret and Scott. I want a Scott for myself! The books just seem to get better and better as they go. There was by far more sexual awareness and activities in this book. Which I LOVE! It definitely has the danger aspect down which always makes a book so much better. There is also an unexpected surprise character thrown in. This book or rather this series is definitely a MUST read.

Margaret had been hoping that Chris was her mate. Once she turned 25 she realized that he was not. So she is quite bummed at Sam and Chase's wedding. So imagine her surprise when she is introduced to a big bear of a man. Literally. Just to discover that he is in fact, her mate. She wants to fight it. I mean he's a Bear! But you can't fight your soul mate. Not without consequences.

Sam's mom Renata has gone crazy! She's no longer in control. Her angry murderous wolf is and the wolf has some huge plans. The council is out to get the Alpha's of the Vegas pack. How better to get to the Alpha's and Beta's then to go through their children. Maggie realizes she has a stalker. Someone was in her window watching her sleep. The first person she wants there with her is Scott. Weird since she wants to fight the mating bond. But she knows she will only feel safe with him there.

They have a lot to work through to be together because they both want different things. Then what do you know. Margaret gets kidnapped. Now it's a race against time to find her before it's too late. Scott and the whole Vegas pack will have to work together to try and find her.

This book is excellent. So many twists and turns. There is definitely so much more going on than I am willing to say. I will definitely be reading this book again and I can't wait for more in this series!

I read the first book in this series of novellas a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Tried another free download in a different series by Ms. Shannan and struggled with it. When I returned to this series I was relieved to discover I enjoyed it as much as the first one…so it wasn’t a fluke. I am already well into book three and this continues to be a winner for this author, for me at least.

The series did take a surprising turn though. I thought it was going to follow the group of sisters from the first story as they all found their mates. Sweet, but not that complex. What is it they say about assumptions… Anyway. The story switched to Margaret or one of the Maggies, a friend of the original sisters. The action picks up right where the other story left off and we get to witness the pairing up of Margaret and Scott, a wolf and a bear.

The world is actually pretty well thought out and complex for such short stories. Often in novellas we don’t get the kind of meat that this world has. There is quite a large supporting cast of characters, which will hopefully mean that there are plenty of stories to come. Only criticism I have here is that it was difficult at times to keep the characters straight, especially when you have a group of women that all share the same or similar name.

I liked the tension in this book, the pairing up of a wolf and bear was fun to read about. I loved the difference in personalities between the two types of shifters. Most can appreciate two vastly different families blending together and the antics or drama it would create. I loved Margaret’s family and hope we get a chance to get to know Scotts.

We still have the mess of Sam’s mom to clear up and there was some sad moments in this story. There is plenty left to work out in this world and I look forward to seeing how things play out.
