This is an OK Western romance novella, with a mostly likable couple -- but Lucy was a bit too much of a chatterbox. I wondered why that didn't irritate Gideon as much as it did me. I also wanted more backstory on Gideon.
Lucy was sweet, but she really did talk too much. People who do that usually get on everyone's nerves, so I was surprised when no one ever snapped at her for all her chatter. I also thought that her reaction to Gideon's story was a bit of a surprise -- considering how much she cared for him, I didn't expect her to hurt him so badly.
I liked Gideon a lot, and liked that he was such a nerd. I had never really thought about how a nerd would handle something like traveling on a wagon train, so I thought that was an interesting plot line. I won't give spoilers, but I also liked how Gideon was finally able to deal with the remorse for his big mistake.
My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

The love of Lucy and Gideon. Lucy is go home to her father in Wyoming and she love great adventures. She is friendly and out going. She meets Gideon, a doctor of scientist and he thinks himself as a murderer. Will the truth come out? Will love win over Gordon's past? Great story.

I love this series and this book is a lot of fun because of two opposite personalities are attracted and compliment each other. I can’t wait for the next book too!

Trail of Passion is book seven in the Hot on the Trail series by Merry Farmer. I have to admit I was surprised with this book. The others were very predictable but very good. I was afraid this one would just repeat what happened in the others except from another person’s point of view. Boy was I mistaken! This is a riveting book full of fun and mystery. I laughed and laughed in this one. I do believe it is the best of the series.
Gideon Faraday joined the wagon train in Independence, Missouri in 1865. Unlike many of the others seeking a new life in the West, Gideon was a well-educated scientist. His education was at Princeton where he ended up majoring in chemistry. He was especially interested in the effects chlorine had on water and other objects. He was sure it would be the answer to purifying water in the West. His wagon was filled with crates with carefully packed bottles of chemicals, mostly chlorine and bromine. He was very careful to keep the two apart and continually looked for ways to rearrange the crates to protect the chemicals. He also had a satchel of money- blood money! He was socially inept, especially with women. His life had been spent studying nature and chemicals and not in interacting with people. Once people got to know him, they generally liked him; but since he kept himself apart from the others, it was hard to get to know him.
Lucy Haskell, the daughter of Howard Haskell, was on the train. When she and her Mother had received a letter that Franklin, her brother, was hurt, they headed home. Mother went by train; but Lucy decided to go by wagon train for the excitement and adventure. She was very happy to be going home as she didn’t fit into the Eastern life. One reason was she talked incessantly. That wasn’t going to stop here on the wagon train. When she saw Gideon, she liked what she saw and began flirting immediately. It didn’t bother her when he snubbed her. She noticed he constantly frowned and decided he needed to be kissed. She set out to make this happen.
Could Gideon elude Lucy’s wiles? Where did he get the money and why did he say it was blood money?
What would Lucy’s reaction be when she found out about Gideon?

I haven't found a book yet by Merry that I don't enjoy. I was so happy to get this book and get started. Let me tell you, it was absolutely wonderful!
Trail of Passion is about the side characters you met in Trail of Redemption, Lucy and Gideon. Lucy is a free spirit that always talks and doesn't know when to shut up. However, she has come to terms with it and embraces it fully. She is fun and loving and makes friends very easily. She takes to Gideon right away. She can sense that something is wrong with him and that he is holding something back. However, she cant quite figure it out. She is speaking with friends one day and decides that he needs a kiss. She believes that a kiss will make him happy and realize that people, mainly her, care about him.
Dr Gideon Faraday is a scientist. He is running from his problems and the fact that he is a murderer. He wants to move out west to use the knowledge that he has to help others and help clean the water. He feels that he doesn't deserve love or attention from anyone, especially Lucy. He can sense that she is smitten and is doing everything that he can to keep away. He doesn't feel that it is fair to her to fall in love with a man like him. He cant resist her though. He caves and when they kiss for the first time, it is pure magic between them.
Their romance continues and Gideon is holding onto his secret. They have interactions with other side characters from past books and new characters that weren't fully mentioned before. Alvin is an orphan that takes to Lucy and the story gets more interesting when Leopold shows up.
The goal is to get out west and to get to the ranch in Wyoming. Twists, turns and plenty of obstacles get in their way. I absolutely loved the story and waiting to see if their relationship will survive what the trail throws at them.
It was a wonderful story and you will be so happy that you read it!

We actually met Lucy and Gideon in Trail of Redemption. Though we never found out much of their story in that particular book. And this is their story. Honestly, I wasn’t sure just how much I wanted to get to know Lucy, she was a magpie in the other story. But really she’s just an endearing lady who’s not keen on silences, so she chooses to fill them. Dr. Gideon is serious. He’s a guilty man and he’s doing all that he can to right the wrong he felt he’s done. And all Lucy can see is just how smart and amazing he is. And honest, he loves her chatter and he sees her as the most beautiful thing ever.
Their love story isn’t without its drama though. There’s someone in camp trying to do them harm and it takes a trap to figure out the culprit. We see Graham and Estelle again from Trail of Redemption. We also get to know Olivia and Charlie slightly better (we’re told the next story is theirs), and we get to see Pete (the only constant in every single one of these stories) and Josephine. Also, we see Emma and Dean from Trail of Longing (Book 3), Aiden and Kate (still my favorites so far!) from Trail of Dreams (Book 4) and Alice and Jarvis from Trail of Destiny (Book 5) there at the end. So it’s really nice to see how their stories progressed. Even if it is through a small window.
Ms. Farmer’s wagon train west is so full of life and vibrancy. I’m almost sad to see the end coming soon. But Pete Evans must be one tired man, leading all these people out to the west and watching them all in their adventures and getting together. He’s deserving of his own adventure and settling down. Maybe we will see a Haskill-ville, Wyoming series in the future? One could only hope! So would I recommend this book. I would and I will and I do. It’s steamier than the others. But not much, it’s still a little much for the teens, but it’s not graphic. It’s just perfect.

MATING HABITS OF THE NORTH AMERICAN TRAIL WOMAN
Another wonderful story in this Hot on the Trail series. With each book, we see people from previous stories and then focus on certain people. Besides traveling the Oregon trail, we have mystery and suspense with lots of twists and turns, making this story a page-turner. With this one, it is Dr. Gideon Faraday, a Princeton scientist and Miss Lucy Haskell, daughter of Howard Haskell of Wyoming. This is two people, one very intelligent, but a rather shy man, who is haunted by demons, and one very outspoken, never-met-a-stranger woman, who is seeking fun, danger, and adventure. What is the saying? Opposites attract, and these two are definitely that, but boy at the physical attraction that sets off sparks. These stories can be read as standalone books, and will be easy enough to follow but are so enjoyable I recommend reading all of them, and preferably in the order they were written. The plot in each has historical elements, is descriptive and allows the reading to imagine the views witnesses along the Oregon trail. The various cast of characters are as diverse and unique which adds a wonderful element to each story. The dialog is heartwarming and witty, causing me to laugh out loud at times. The chemistry (no pun intended with our scientist) between Gideon and Lucy is explosive, she is definitely more a modern thinking woman that what society expects. This is a steamy historical romance. I look forward to more in this series.

Gideon Faraday was headed west. A scientist, he wanted to help people. After what happened during the war he needed to make amends. Lucy Haskell was headed home to Wyoming. Her mother took the train but Lucy was looking for excitement and danger, so she joined the wagon train. Lucy never stopped talking. She was nicknamed Chatterbox. Meeting Gideon, all she wanted was to get to know him. He was a smart man, nice looking. She most likely didn't stand a chance with him. It never hurt to try. Gideon never gave thought to meeting a women, getting married and starting a family. When Lucy keeps coming around, he finds it harder and harder to ignore the feelings she brings out in him. Gideon, was your typical scientist, forgetting to eat not knowing what was going on around him. Lucy was tired of being thought of as stupid and always getting herself into trouble. Ye she loved adventure and danger, but she wanted a man to love her. What can you do when the man you set your sights on does everything to avoid being around you. Another fantastic book in the Hot on the Trail series. Can be read as a stand alone but for the full enjoyment of the series best read in order. Past characters are revisited. This can be read as a stand alone novel, but I recommend you read them all as most of the characters involved have been introduced in previous books.
In this book, we meet Miss Lucy Haskell & Scientist, Gideon Faraday who are travelling on the Oregon trail wagon train.
Lucy, to her family in Wyoming & Gideon, who's travelling with a wagon full of chemicals.
Lucy is a chatterbox, lively & puts her foot in it by speaking without thinking sometimes.
Gideon has harboured a secret that he's running away from & wants to make amends by introducing the Chlorine he carries to use out west so that people can benefit from good sanitation & clean water.
When they meet, for Lucy it's love at first sight & their relationship blossoms very quickly, despite a few hiccups along the way.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters, especially, Lucy & Gideon, were a joy to read about & we're very likeable from the start.
The storyline is very believable & her eye for detail is spot on!

I did this as an ARC review and as with the other books in the series this lived up to the rest. I think this is the best one. Lucy Haskell is going home to Wyoming. She does not want to take the train with her mother, she wants adventure. Gidoen Faraday is a scientist running from a guilty conscious. While on the journey west they deal with misplaced youth love, society rules and hardships of the trail.
Lucy chats to fill the silent moments. Since her parents stopped talking to each other this is Lucy's way to fill that void. She can not handle quiet. Her brother gave her the nickname of Chatterbox. She does not mind as she is happy with herself.
Gideon was in on an experiment that went wrong. He is now trying to make it up by helping to clean the water supply int he west. He tries to make things easier others. He also makes an artificial limb for another of the wagon-trail passengers.
Together they find that helping each other and accepting each other that Love does make the small things better. They get through prejudices and accidents.
Merry Farmer has very dynamic and lively characters that give us adventure and intrigue. This is a must read.

I received Trail of Passion as an ARC for an honest review. This is book 7 in the Hot on the Trail series, and Merry has done it again! When this series started, I started with Trail of Kisses I didn’t think the other books could get better, HOWEVER every book of hers gets better. I cannot put them down from start to finish. You can read this book as a standalone, but I highly recommend if you haven’t read any of them you should.
This was a wonderfully written! I fell in love with Lucy Haskell and Dr. Gideon Faraday from the beginning.

have to admit that I am a big fan of Merry Farmer and this series. I have been reading them since the first one in the series came out. They are never the same. Each book holds its on different writing style and you are never bored. The day to day of wagon train life is so descriptive that you find yourself picturing it as if you were there watching this love story unfold. I really enjoyed Dr. Gideon Faraday and Lucy Haskell's story. Lucy is a talker like me so I could really relate to her. You would think a scientist would be bored to death with Lucy but not Gideon. He sees the kind, generous, sweet girl that is Lucy. Gideon has a secret, Lucy is crazy about him but Gideon doesn't think he is good enough for her.
What I enjoy most about this series is that Merry draws in characters and situations from her other books or future books. As you read you see how these have unfolded around another couple in the series or you get a glimpse of what to expect in the next one. Give the series a try, I promise you will love them.

I met Lucy & Gideon when i read the Trail of Redemption and from there I was intrigued of what's happening between the shy scientist & the very forward Ms Lucy daughter of Howard Haskell of Wyoming. I love that she never tires of saying that whenever she introduces herself.
Lucy Haskell is travelling the Oregon Trail to go back home to their ranch in Wyoming. And along the way, she made some good friends and met someone special - Dr. Gideon Faraday. Lucy & Gideon are total opposites, Lucy couldn't stop talking and Gideon mostly keeps to himself which made them the perfect pair.
I love how their story unfolded. Joining the Oregon Trail will not just lead you back home but will find you your home in someone's heart.
I can't wait to read the last two books of the series.

I loved this book. Gone is the redundancy that has plagued some of the books in this series and the storyline is wonderful. Lucy and Gideon make a wonderful, passionate couple, even if Gideon is carrying around a secret torment.
At first the idea of Gideon's secret kind of non-plussed me - it seemed so out of character with what I knew of him from the last book, but Ms. Farmer does a wonderful job explaining the details and you can totally see the idealistic and curious Gideon getting caught up in the plan that leaves him so tormented.
This entire series has been a joy to read, but this book is absolutely the best of them all. If I could rate it higher than 5 stars I would

I'm a huge fan of Merry Farmer books and this one did not disappoint! Once again she has paired two unexpected people together to make a delightful couple who are able to support one another's strengths and weaknesses while bringing many laughs to the story! Merry also effectively mixed in some science in order to bring these two together giving another layer of interest to the book - I was definitely as intrigued by that part of the story as I was the romance itself. If you haven't read Trail of Redemption I'd start there, but this is an excellent continuation of a fantastic series. Dr. Gideon Faraday is a scientist who is moving west to start over. He does not want to fall in love. Lucy Haskell is vivacious and talks constantly. She sets her eyes on Gideon and is relentless. They cannot fight the attraction, but danger is ahead. Merry Farmer leads us once again west on a wagon train that has many different characters and many different stories! Great read by a great author.

I have read several of Merry Farmer's Hot on the Trail books and have liked them all. They are full of twists and turns and keep your attention. I like how her writing doesn't have any "dead" spots. Once you start reading you don't want to stop. You don't have to read a quarter of the book to get into the story line. This a stand alone book but it is helpful to read the other books to have some background. Nice but not necessary. If you haven't started this series I recommend it.

The latest addition to the Hot on the Trail series features Gideon, a quiet scientists that is traveling west to help pioneers with water purification. On the trail the rules are different and breakable more often than not, which is something that suits Lucy just fine. She's looking for adventure on her return trip home, he's running from an unfortunate incident where hundreds of lives were lost. Together they find everything they are looking for.

I love this series! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was such an easy, fun read. I never wanted to put the book down. The story just flows. Fun characters, good story and I love how it ties in with other books although, I am sure you could read it as a stand alone but I don't know why anyone would want to! The Oregon Trail mixed in with mystery and romance and a little bit of history. I can't wait for the next book!

In true Merry Farmer fashion, she has wrote another great book in this series! I got to see how Gideon and Lucy's story was told. There was a beautiful love story, a charming orphan, and lots of unanswered questions to some dangerous disasters that keep occurring along the trail. The ending was perfect for everyone in the story. I can't wait for the next book in this series! Given by Badass Marketing in exchange for an honest review.

When I took on the first book in this series, I was thinking..."What in the world am I thinking, this is not what I normally read." Needless to say, here I am at book 7 and I have loved each and every story in this set. Each one has it's own unique characters as well as revisit of previous characters. The plots are everything a book needs. If you haven't read this set yet, you're really missing out on a very talented author!

I received the book in exchange for an honest review. Again, Merry Farmer takes us on a trip with the wagon train. This is Gideon and Lucy's story. I never would of thought of these 2 pairing up but pair up they did. Book 7 in this series is just as good as the first 6. It can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading in order as we get to touch base with the characters from previous stories.

This is a wagon train headed west story.....which I love! Love the real feel and details of the wagon train and how it was not all roses and happiness.....but dust, death and being exhausted. Great story and liked the chemistry between G and Lucy. The big drawback from me is that I really didn't like Lucy at all. I just wanted her to shut up and quit rattling on and on and on. I was given a copy of this book for an honset review.

Miss Lucy Haskell likes to throw her daddy's name around -- like it means something to anyone! Enjoyed this story story also -- was wondering how long it was going to take them to get to Wyoming!
Makes one wonder about the friendships that formed on these wagon trains and how many were kept long after the adventure of the wagon train was long done!

I enjoyed this book very much. I found it hard to put down and couldn't wait to turn the page. Merry Farmer has added another great book to the "Hot On the Trail" series. This book is well worth your time!!!!!

Ms Farmer's book, Trail of Passion, in the Hot on the Trail series is well written and although a part of a series can be read alone. The characters are developed and the story moves smoothly. Another good read from Ms. Farmer.

I blasted through this book in about an hour and a half. I couldn't get enough of Gideon and Lucy. The story jumped right on in and gave me their chemistry and passion. I look forward to all of Ms. Farmer's books and this one didn't disappoint !
