I used to deliver pizza. I was pretty good at it, too. I mean, it's not that hard, but if I'm not going to brag, who is, right? Anyways, so I'm delivering pizza while I'm in college, and my boss has been in the pizza industry like six years. He's supposed to graduate from college this year, and I ask him, what are you going to do after college? We're all supposed to go out and conquer the world right after college, so this guy has to have some kind of plan.

He looked at me like I was delusional.

"I'm a writer, man."

Those four words changed my life more so than anything else ever spoken to me.
I'd always written, since I was twelve participating in online-wrestling forums in which you acted out your character. I wrote because it came naturally. Never once, in the entirety of my nineteen years did I think that writing could be a career though, until a Pizza Sage said those four words to me.

So what did I do? I went home and wrote a short story and immediately understood that I was the greatest writer to ever touch a keyboard. I brought it to the Pizza Sage and he told me what anyone could have told me--it was horrible. I might be dumb, probably am, but I'm also tenacious.

I spent the next seven years writing almost every day. My first novel grew to the length of 40,000 words, then I threw it away. My second novel grew to 140,000 words. I didn't throw it away, but it was rejected about 50 times by agents. My next novel ended up at around 55,000 words, which I showed to a few friends and shelved. Then I wrote Dead Religion, which is the only reason I have an author page at Amazon.

I have had four short stories published, paid and unpaid. 'Effects May Vary' won an award that was voted on by readers, which was pretty cool.

I'm currently getting my Masters in Business at the University of Georgia's Terry School of Business. I'm doing this in order to not deliver pizzas but still keep the lights on. I have a girlfriend who will soon be my fiancé, and after ten years, I imagine she's ready for that title.

I want to own a yacht.

It’s a slow read...but a good one

Book 2 continues in the same manner as the first. Still leaning towards the YA reader. However, the characters are well developed and there are enough sci-if concepts going on that it continues to hold interest. The emotional energy is fairly basic, again catering to a more YA reader, and there is a definite lack of hard science. Bottom line is the first two books are just interesting enough if you can handle a slower-paced, slow-developing story. I gave an extra star for the author’s smooth writing style.

In The Nemesis series, author David Beers gives the reader a disparate collection of story lines and characters. Among them are the Var (Queen) of a dying planet, a shadowy government agency, a bucolic Georgia town, a quartet of teens, an alien event in Bolivia during the 70's and an alcoholic father/widower. Beers expertly takes these pieces and weaves them into his best series to date. The Var, Morena leaves her planet intent on populating the Earth with her kind- her children (such as they are) are under the planet's surface awaiting her to call them forth. Morena has inhabited the bodies of a pair of the teens to prepare for the arrival of her progeny. The Shadowy Government Agency is aware that some sort of alien incursion has taken place and is on hand to eradicate it- even if that means erasing the town she is in off the map.

In book Two Beers is a master of Point of View. He takes the reader to Morena's home planet to see how desperately she tries to convince The Council that the only way their species can survive is to leave their planet, her sorrow when The Council doesn't believe her, and her ruthlessness in how she reacts to The Council's disbelief. He takes us to 1970 Bolivia where Ridgely and Will, the heads of the government agency, are left with an unspeakable option when they are unable to root out the life form that landed there. He takes us to the Earth's core, where the progeny frantically follow a single command- grow and reproduce until Morena tells them their time has come. He takes us into the void where Morena has put the minds of Bryan and Thera while she inhabits their physical bodies while she hides her true form. He takes us to teenaged Mike and Julie who know something crash landed in Grayson and that Bryan and Thera, their two best friends, haven't been right since- knowledge that marks them for death at the hands of the government agency. He takes us into the mind of Mike's father Wes, who fell to the bottle after the death of his wife.Wes' parenting methods since he started drinking fluctuate from neglect to abuse. Now he is attempting to redeem himself and save his son.

All the jumping in time and space could be jarring and confusing, but Beers handles it with deftness. The narrative flows perfectly from scene to scene and the reader never has to pause and figure out where he's at.

Near the end of Book Two there's a scene where Thera sees an opportunity to escape from Morena. In attempting to do so the teen sees the alien as she actually is. Thera discovers that Morena's grace and her essence gives her a beauty that is nearly too much for words and that Morena is so powerful that mankind will be helpless against her. The prose in that scene is some of the most beautiful and most powerful writing I have ever read from any author, independent or traditional. It is just unforgettable.

Though impossible to believe, Book Two Surpasses Book One.

I absolutely LOVE this series, I didn't think it would be possible to read or like anything as much as I loved reading David's Singularity Series, but Nemesis? Nemesis just blows everything else out of the water. Nemesis, Book Two is definitely the best book (let alone the best series) I have read in years. I eagerly await each new book with the anticipation, reminiscent of a child waiting for Christmas to find out what new treat Santa brought them.

Book Two picks up exactly where Book One left off: Morena has arrived on Earth and plans to stay, the Government understands the threat (even if no one else does), and the Mercenaries are paid to stay off the books and eradicate whatever is placed in front of them. Their job is to descend upon the small town of Grayson Georgia, their only purpose: find the alien, anyone it inhabits, then kill them no matter what the cost. Four teenagers and their families are caught between these two opposing forces, trying to make it out alive.

Morena is living inside Byran and Thera, using them to bring her species back from the dead. Her children grow beneath the Earth’s surface, waiting for her so they can begin to populate the world. Michael and Julie remain kidnapped by the same government that's trying to protect us, they are being used for information and will certainly meet death once they tell all they know.

As Morena moves closer to her species birth, the mercenaries clamp down on the town, the only question that matters: will anyone survive? No spoilers so you'll have to read this to find out what happens. ;)

No noticeable typos or errors in sentence structure, characters are well defined, the storyline is well developed, the flow of events reads smoothly without those annoying issues popping up to disrupt your enjoyment of this series. While knowing there are other books to come in this series, the cliffhanger type ending is forgivable knowing more is on the way. Surprising since I really can't stand cliffhanger endings. Highly recommended.

Great connector Book as Book two picks up exactly where book one left off. We find out more about Morena and the world she came from and what she plans here and why each of the characters make the decisions they do. This is a great connector book. This series of books remind me of a miniseries that runs over several nights (where each book would be a night) Book one introduced the characters and book two fleshes them out more. Morena just wants both her and her race to survive like any of us would. Would we do anything less? I like how the reader can see the story unfold through each of the characters eyes and feelings. I received book one free on Amazon and book two free from the author, I am excited that I am rushing to read book 3 to see where the story goes and I highly recommend that you get the whole set so you can read start to finish.

Absolutely stunning, exciting and unstoppable action - there is NO way to put Book II down until finished! The twists of this story keep you guessing who will win: the alien, the ones trying to survive or the government forces. Now to wait for the next book in the series.

David Beers is a wonderful writer, he can see how to maneuver the storyline in such a way the reader doesn't even get the answer to solving one question about the plot until the next question arises! Keeps you guessing with every page turn and you hate to see the end arrive.

Good thriller

I read the first book in this series and had enjoyed the story so I figured I might as well continue. This book picks up and advances the plot and delves deeper into the characters that were introduced to us in the previous book. The ending is once again kind of a cliff hanger, so I'm guessing that there will be a third book in this series. Overall, it was a quick and enjoyable read. If you like a thriller with a touch of science fiction I would recommend this book.

Can it get any better?

If you love great character development, understanding the external and internal motivations of the main characters, and a fantastic story than you must read the Nemesis series. I can't wait for book number 3.
