There was a lot that I enjoyed about this book. Friends to lovers is a trope I always enjoy, and I like a good enforced closeness. The author creates that closeness by giving Allina a crazy stalker, forcing her to hide with her best guy friend to avoid him. Instant sexual tension! And I like that Allina has a strong group of female friends, although I jumped in the series at book 3, so I suspect that aspect would have been even stronger if I'd had the full backstory.
I think I would have pushed this into 4 star territory if the suspenseful element of the story was just the teeniest bit stronger. We would get these moments of strong foreshadowing, a nervousness that something terrible was about to happen, but I never got to the place where I felt the threat from crazy Isaac. There was a lot of discussion about the things he'd done or was capable of, but I apart from the very beginning we get to actually see very little of that. It's quite possibly a personal preference thing, but I wanted to feel that sense of danger. I don't know if it was intended, but the marketing put me in mind of romantic suspense, and that was what I came in looking for. What was delivered was a solid contemporary romance, but it wasn't what I expected. I think that affected my enjoyment a bit, but if you're just looking for a good, contemporary friends-to-lovers story, I can certainly point you in this direction.
