In this villainous one-hundred-page companion novella to the #1 New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series, get a unprecedented look at the invasion—from three different Mogadorians hoping to conquer Earth. This novella picks up immediately after the cliffhanger ending of The Fate of Ten and coincides with the events of United as One, the final book in this epic series.

After the Mogadorian leader is struck with a potentially fatal blow, it becomes uncertain who will step in for him and how the Mogs should proceed with their invasion of the planet. This power vacuum has wide-reaching ramifications. One Mog, who has been on a quest for redemption ever since she first let the Garde slip through her fingers, is given an unimaginable opportunity to make things right with the Beloved Leader. Another, who has an unquenchable thirst for blood, jumps at the opportunity to hunt down the human teens who have begun to develop Legacies. And the last Mog, who has been questioning everything since he crossed paths with Adam, is forced to decide once and for all where his allegiances lie. While the fate of the Mogadorian leader is unknown, the one thing that is for certain is that this war is coming to an end . . . and there can only be one side that wins.

This was the last of the novellas in the Lorien Legacies series that I put off reading because it encompasses three point of views of different Mogadorians, and I really didn't feel like reading anything in their point of view. However, I didn't mind this as much as I thought I would. The writing was on par with all of the other books and novellas in the series, and it was interesting to get a different viewpoint on everything that was happening towards the end of the series. I'm glad I read it but it was probably the least necessary of any of the novellas (technically, none are necessary in order to read the Lorien Legacies series, although I think the ones with Adam are most relevant).

I liked Rex's perspective, but the other ones (ESPECIALLY Phiri Dun-Ra's...) made me want to tear my hair out. It's frustrating and annoying to read—which understandably is the point.

Three Mogadorian POV's....
At last, an insight on what's happening within the other side...

One's a deranged trueborn devotee of the Mogadorian cause, who, given a chance, would wholeheartedly sacrifice her life to protect her " Beloved Leader". Eager to prove her worth after the Gardes thwarted her again and again.
Loyal and dedicated but an insane believer nevertheless.

Next one's a blood-thirsty vast-born Mog. A fearless hunter, a predator thrilled when face with their enemies whom he can easily crushed with his hands. One who craves carnage and bloodshed. Brutal, Fierce, and psychotic. Deadly combinations.

And lastly, Another trueborn Mog.. born and raised as a merciless soldier but started to have doubts and questioned their cause. He's longing for peace within this senseless war, but in the end, where will his allegiances lie?

I can't wait for the thrilling conclusion of one of my favorite series.

Three stories in one. Two were five stars, one was four stars. They were all fantastic. This is the type of book I wanted to read. It’s about aliens and evil and confusion. Reading about aliens invading earth…from the POV of the aliens, is so unique and cool.

The 15th evolution of the Lost Files was split into 3 parts. This was an interesting set of stories in that it focused entirely on the Mogadorians. Unlike past stories, this did not focus on a Mogadorian that wanted to switch sides, this was about a 3 different Mogadorians, 2 of which have nothing but hate for the Loric and Humans and a third which is somewhat unsure.
The first story follows Phiri Dun-Ra, immediately after the events of the Fate of Ten, in which Setrakus Ra has been struck down. This is a really interesting read as it follows the Mogadorian Trueborn and what she does during this epic battle at Mexico, up onto the ramp of the Anubis, when Ra is hit with the debris, and then, after.
I am not going to give any spoilers, but needless to say, this is a must read for any fan of the series as it gives some real insight about what is coming and the lead up to United as One.
It also gives some insight into the brutal life of the Mogadorians, the sheer one-mindedness of their culture, and the ultimate devotion to Setrakus Ra, their beloved leader.
The second story is of a similar nature, following Vintaro Ushaba, a vatborn soldier in the city of Chicago. Vintaro is one of the better performing soldiers, and has been tasked with collecting Human’s with Garde like abilities. He accepts this mission with a fanatical zeal that can only be found in one so devoted to a cause.
Both the 1st and 2nd parts of this book show a ridiculously scary side to the Mogadorian way, completely brainwashed, psychopathic devotion to ‘Beloved Leader’ with no regard to the fact that Setrakus Ra made up the ‘Great Book’ and everything about himself, and they just happily follow blindly along with it, doing anything and everything he says, including dying. It does show that there is no hope for a peaceful resolution with the Mogs, they do not understand this concept, only utter domination or destruction. They are only happy when violating, killing or destroying.
So the first 2 parts are a happy couple of reads!
The third part however is somewhat different, taking us back to Rexicus Saturnus (I really want to know how they generate the names of these guys and is there one of those things to generate your own Mog name – you know Last 3 letters of your Pets Name, plus the planet corresponding to the number of your year of birth…), the Trueborn that helped Adam escape the base at Plum Island in the Lost Files #6 The Forgotten Ones. Rexicus has moved to a warship after his dealings with Adam, no longer able to be planetside.
This story is again running during the time frame after the Fate of Ten, and just before United as One, so not only do we get to catch up on Rex, see some of the unrest at the rumours of Setrakus Ra being wounded amongst the rank and file of the Mogs, but it brings us up to speed for the start of United as One.
During this story, Rex is battling with his own inner demons as well, should he have joined Adam? Is the Mog way the right way? Rex is an unusual Mog, smarter than most, raised on Earth, he can see that the method of destruction of all is not a sound way to exist. He is also doubtful of ‘Beloved Leaders’ mantra as he sees that he might be fallible, after all, he wrote everything they are obeying, why is he so right? How did he get hurt if he is so powerful?
It makes for a very interesting read in the face of the first two stories of such blatant, unwavering fanaticism.
Overall, this is a really well written set of stories, and although it is a bit full on in parts, if you can look past the brutality and the over the top devotes, then this is actually a fascinating read, especially the third part.
And if you are a fan, then it's worth it for the overall story update regardless.

I liked this book a lot, but I've read them all & think they're all fantastic. Usually, a series throws in novellas that add nothing to the plot, but with the Lost Files, I feel like we've gotten really dialed in with extra details that enrich the story...

There are three main stories here, the first, Legacies Reborn, focuses on new Garde, Daniela, one of the teens from earth who gained a legacy upon awakening Lorien on earth. It's Daniela's POV throughout, so yeah, not a lot of newness to sink your teeth into, but her POV adds to the narrative of the series all the same.

Last Defense follows Malcolm Goode as he heads to a secret government bunker to advise the President how to help the Loric and win the war. This follows book 6, building on Malcolm's experiences & is his POV. Good as it shows behind the scenes details we didn't know and connects those plays from the ending of book 6 to the start of book 7.

Hunt for the Garde is by far the best chapter & is told from the POV of 3 mogs, a true born leader, Phiri Dun-Ra, after the Sanctuary battle, a vat born leader, Vintaro Üshaba who is a blind follower of Setrakus Ra & his POV documents the search for the new human Garde, allies of the Loric. The last and my favorite part of this last section was from the POV of Rexicus Saturnus, a true born & the same one who helped Adam escape Plum Island. It turns out ol' Rexicus wasn't exactly as much of a follower in blind faith of Setrakus Ra as we thought when he and Adam parted ways. His POV takes place on a warship in Canada & it helps describe the consequences of Setrakus Ra's "radio silence" as he heals in a vat from his injuries at the hand of Six.

The last portion with the Mogs POV was best, but they all had something worth while in them.

My only complaint? The final 80+ pages were previews of past books. This series? Book lite, it isn't...if you want to get the most out of it, you need to read them all & I'm sure most fans have, so I wish they would either shorten the lost files books instead of adding a ton of "extras" in the form of previews to the back.

It hurt my heart to get to the cliffhanger this book ends on & then flip the page only to find a preview of a book I've already READ.

Other than that it's great....

Hunt for the Garde is split into three parts, and in each part we learn about a different Mogadorian.

Part one is about Phiri Dun-Ra and she is a Trueborn commander who serves under Setrakus Ra. Most of this part takes place right after 6 impales Ra with a pipe, and how Dun-Ra steps up to be his voice. During this time we discover that Zakos is taking the human garde and trying to take their loric powers. In turn this is how Dun-Ra gets powers in The Fate of Ten.

Part two is about Vintaro Ushaba, and he is a Vatborn Mogadorian leader. He is assigned a team to take out some of the human garde. Everything was going fine until they got sent to Niagara Falls. This is where the human garde fought back, and Ushaba was killed.

Part three is about Rexicus Satumus, and oh man am I happy Pittacus Lore added this to this book. Adam and Rex are my favorite two Mogs. Adam and Rex met when Rex helped Adam escape from Plum Island. This part ends with the ship Rex is on also goes to Niagra Falls where he ends up meeting up with Adam again.

What a cliff-hanger ending! Dang! This and Last Defense revealed as much info as the regular series. I can barely remember Rex being in the other Novellas. Once I reread everything then it will all make sense. I love how the Mogs worship Setrakus Ra!

Interesting View of the Villains | Review of ‘Hunt for the Garde’ (Lorien Legacies: The Lost Files #15) (Review originally posted on Cyn's Workshop)

The only novella in the series that focuses on the Mogadorian side of the series. There are three different perspectives in the novel, two true born Mogadorians, and one vat-born one. By doing this, fans of the series get a chance to see deeper into the mindset of the Mogadorians, how they think and how they regard this invasion, this war effort. It gives the overall story another layer and showcases some of the villains who were merely mentioned in the novel.

The first part of the novel follows Phiri Dun-Ra, a high-ranking Mogadorian female warrior who has had many encounters with the Loriens. And yet, the reader knows nothing about her. Much of the time, Mogadorians are alluded to as robots, unthinking and brainwashed by their society and their leader. And yet there so much more to it than that. Here the reader gets to truly meet the ruthless female warrior. Now, while the story doesn’t add much, it does give a little insight and backstory into what was going on with the Mogadorians, With Setrákus Ra, and his defeat at the hands of the Loriens at the Sanctuary and how this deeply affected the Mogadorians. It also sets the stage for how Phiri Dun-Ra ended up getting her Lorien abilities.

Again, it doesn’t add a whole lot to the story, but it does give insight into everything happening behind the scenes. Now while, the first story adds, the second story, following a vat-born, doesn’t add anything. It shows the reader the new generation and their first encounter with the Mogadorians before they enter United as One and take over the story in Generation One. But it’s such a minor thing, it wasn’t essential.

Now, the third and final perspective is where more time should have been devoted. It follows Rex, who readers will know as the Mogadorian friend of Adam. The same friend who helped Adam save the Chimæra, the allies of the Lorien, the Mogadorian enemies. Rex is such an interesting character because while he is devoted to the war effort, the only truth he has ever known, doubt shadows his actions because of his friendship with Adam. It’s an interesting perspective because his doubt shadows his narrative. It’s an intriguing perspective and he’s such an interesting character is a shame that more time wasn’t devoted to his idealism, his doubt, and his growth. It’s possibly the best part of this novel and it’s shame it was at the end and yet it was the perfect way to end of the Lost Files series. In the end, it was thoughtful and following these three villains around gave a great view of the war. (★★★☆☆ | B-)

50/100.

Finally, we see a bit from the point of view of the Mogadoriens.
There is 3 POVs so it's really quick for each characters. It's also very divers as we have a true-born, a vat-born and a rebel.
We can totally see the brain washing at work in the first case. Phiri Dun-Ra is a total nut case and doesn't need to be pushed far to get worse.
Vintaro Üshaba isn't much better, he only think about the mission and his love to kill and create chaos.
Then comes Rexicus Saturnus who escape death miraculously before making his final decision.

Ok, to be honest these lost files books are a bit annoying. Some of them I like, I feel like are important to the story. But ones like this? From a villain POV? When it is phiri dun RNA’s POV, it is basically like if you wrote Harry Potter fanfic from Bellatrix’s POV! It is evil! Like I said before, read the others (except for the ones about Five) because they are good! And 15 books though? Is it just me or are the authors kind of milking this series now? Overall, this book was bad, but the series is pretty good.

The author surprises us with these new point of views. The voice and thoughts of Mogs, both vat born and true born.
How they think, how they are completely absorbed in beloved leader’s powers and command.
How they will be lost if he is absent or there is a delay in orders. They are helpless, thoughtless and cannot make a decision themselves and even if they did they are faced by mutiny and coup.
I like this one

The authors really hit us over the head with the whole brainwashing thing—I mean, these characters were saying “Hail Beloved Leader!” and “Forever may he reign!” and stuff like that in between almost every paragraph!!!!

These novellas have been a STRUGGLE. At the beginning they had helpful information and insight into both the characters and the world, but the further on I got, the more they started to feel like completely unnecessary filler stories.

The final short story in The Lost Files series, I just can't believe it.

Now don't get me wrong, this one was good. It was told from three different perspectives and covers most of United as One, but the Mogadorians who are up Setrakus Ra's ~butt~ isn't all that interesting. I love novela's 3, 4, and 6 because they were told in Adam's perspective, a Mogadorian who turned ally to the Loric. Now that's interesting.

3/5- It didn't thrill me to death but I didn't hate it either.

PD. ¡¿Por qué ese final?! ¡Necesito saber ya qué pasóoo!

This book was a very interesting one.

The point of view was unexpected considering how advanced in the overall story was issued, but I mean in the good sense, as it gives you a vantage point of what is happening on the other side.

I will not lie, reading this book was a little unsettling for me at the beginning, but learned to appreciate it at the end.

One more to go! :-)

Didn't really care about Phiri Dun-Ra's plot line in this. Vintaro Üshaba's story was kinda cool just for getting to see Nigel and Ran in action. But if I hadn't already read the sequel series, I wouldn't know that they're two of my favorite characters. At least Rex's story was kinda cool. Would have liked to see him escape on a Skimmer and join up with Adam, though. Idk.

Part 1 4/5 she's cool and badass but also super evil but I don't care for her. Decent story though.
Part 2 3/5 not relevant to the story imo but it's cool I guess to see the POV of a random vatborn Mog to see how they think.
Part 3 5/5 Good story, looking forward to Rex joining the Garde! I think this story will be relevant to the last book.

Been a while since I have read any of Lorien’s tales so hard to keep up; but a good little filler none-the-less.
Three different stories from characters; Mog leader Phiri-Dun-Ra, vatborn leader, and Trueborn that helped Adam and is questioning his life choices.
