The Shields Of Vale

Rate this book
In the world of Vale, almost everyone has a connection to one of the twelve Affinities, granting them amazing magical abilities ranging from subtle to spectacular.
While some can even be attuned to multiple Affinities, some have none at all, their only boon being that they cannot be affected by Affinity. These people are called Unburdened Ones.

The Affinity Saga begins as the commander of the most elite and respected team of Red Shields, Captain Josyf Jada, is summoned by the King for a mission to his home town.
A family of Fire Affinity wielding thugs have been terrorizing the citizens of Summerbend and murdering his fellow Red Shields.
After dealing with this task, greater evils and long buried truths are revealed, forcing Josyf and his Red Shields to undergo their most dangerous quest yet.
They must travel to the far northern and frozen city of Azzurri, where a long forgotten evil has laid dormant, growing in power since the climax of the Quadra War over one hundred years prior.

Volume 1 is the start of an eight book Saga of adventure circling the entire world of Vale and beyond.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very short and accessible, which I very much liked as I don't have the free time to sit and work my way through an epic sized book.
I could see the authors writing improve over the course of the book, as it was a bit rough in spot at first, but I aim to stick with it until the end.

The story itself was fun and fast paced with some genuinely funny moments and apparently the author is going to be doing 8 books, so I'm looking forward to where the story leads the team in the book as the world seemed to grow larger and more complex with every chapter.
I would have appreciated a bit more lore in the tale, so hopefully he adds more in the next one.
