I didn't really like this as much as I thought I would.
I wanted more of the cool Young Avengers team that I read last year.

description

Instead, I got some sort of angsty teenage shit with dumbass teenagers.
Yes, I realize how stupid I sound.

description

Ok. It's not that bad, but damn those kids were mopey.
Each issue featured one (maybe two) of the Young Avengers, and kind of told a bit about them. Not an origin story, so much as a What I'm Doing Now story.
Patriot & Stature were the worst.
JESBUS with the Whining! Those two took the whole volume down at least two stars with their incessant Life Isn't Fair horseshit. I'm sorry, I just don't have the tolerance to feel bad for kids who aren't being beaten, starved, or molested.
Get over yourself.

description

The rest of the stories were ok. Nothing to write home about, but I didn't want to give them my There are starving children all over the world who would love to eat that casserole! speech.

The Kate & Hawkeye issue was my favorite, but I could have sworn I'd already read that one somewhere before...

Recommended for HUGE fans of the Young Avengers only.

This book collects the six Young Avengers one-shots, each of which focused on one or two of the team. It's not as good as a proper Young Avengers book but if this is all that's on offer, I'll definitely take it.

Considering these were one-offs written by other writers, there were quite a few major character moments in this one.

I suppose this was done as a way to keep the Young Avengers alive between series. I'm glad for that. This is basically a series of one-shot comics, each focused on one or two of the Young Avengers. To be honest, not much happens. But there wasn't supposed to be a lot happening in any event. This is all about exploring and developing their characters. And it does a fine job of that, for the most part. Patriot's issue was particularly good, surprisingly thoughtful and unwilling to come to a final answer. Eli is struggling with presenting himself as a patriotic icon while feeling decidedly cynical about the course of his country. Also effective is Hulkling meeting his father, Mar-Vell. I already read Kate's story, in Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon, and I liked it then. I'll give Wiccan and Speed's story a pass because I like them, though nothing really happens and it's a pretty ineffective story. I did think it was weird that Teddy stays green in every panel in that story, even though he's decidedly off duty. I am not at all convinced by the love story between Cassie and Vision, and something about Cassie's story seemed off to me, like it didn't fit in with her circumstances as shown in Vision's story. But overall, it's a really nice collection, especially if you already know and love these characters.

this was fun! each character has a first-person narrated section focused on themself and their personal journey, and they’re all illustrated by different artists. i think this was a great way to get deeper into the characters’ minds and understand their motivations better.

just to have it noted, my favorites are kate and the twins. i do think they’re all great though and would love to see them all together on screen someday 🫶

Young Avengers Presents just collects six one-shots about the Young Avengers. The stories aren't really connected, though they're all post-Civil War, and they mostly just do a little character development. The art varies a bit, and some of the stories interested me more than others, but it's okay as a bit of filler.

One thing I don't get: why when Billy and Teddy are alone together is Teddy in Hulkling form all the time? Is this some kind of encoded message that they're not having sex, we promise?

I did love all the moments of explicit and implicit dorkiness on Teddy and Billy's parts. The reference to Pokemon, and the sign on Billy's door...

I liked this, but wish it would have been larger. Basically my only complaint. I thought the stories included were interesting, added to the character development, and there was some (very relevant and thought provoking) social justice issues thrown in as well.

This was a miss for me. After enjoying Heinberg's run, this collection of one-shots were disjointed and felt lacking.

Dammit I just LOVE the Young Avengers and these crazy young avengers kids! Eli (Patriot), Billy (Wiccan), Teddy (Hulkling), Tommy (Speed), Cassie (Stature), Jonas (Young Vision), and last but definitely not the least Kate Bishop aka Hawkeye. In fact in this perfectly balanced and evenly focused interconnected collection of six brilliant short stories each centering on a particular Young Avenger, the one focusing on Kate's Hawkeye is clearly the best and most fun one. And that's no surprise as its written by Matt Fraction, who would later go on to write one of my most favorite Marvel series ever: Fraction & Aja's Hawkeye, building on the foundation from this Hawkeye story where Kate's Hawkeye met for the first time the original Hawkeye Clint Burton, thus beginning their long-standing camaraderie and budding relationship (Clint was dead at the time Kate took his name and his bow, but he's not dead anymore because comicbook).

Other stories were almost equally engaging and heartfelt: from Ed Brubaker's Patriot story involving the Winter Soldier about living up to their idols (Bucky's Cap and Eli's Black Cap who's his grandfather), to Roberto Sacasa's Wiccan and Tommy story searching for their "mother" the Scarlet Witch after her last meltdown ("No more mutants.") and disappearance, to Brian Reed's Hulkling story of Teddy trying to connect with the recently returned Captain Mar-Vell who's supposedly Teddy's father, to Kevin Gravioux's Stature story about trusting thyself and accountability for Cassie with her family.

The only story I was not so crazy about was Paul Cornell's Young Vision story about Vision's sudden crush on Stature, the logic behind Vision's reasoning of his romantic feelings felt somewhat stilted, confusing and self-contradictory, not to mention Stature's continuing claim the Iron Lad as her "boyfriend" seemed a head-scratcher... if I recalled correctly they had one evening together along with other teammates and a single kiss before Iron Lad's departure.

Anyway, even the comparatively weaker one was still darn good fun, and over all this third volume of Young Avengers continues to be one of the most consistently excellent written, soulfully characterized and compulsively readable Marvel super-team series of the post-2k era. A clear five out of five.

I think at some point Marvel's most brilliant minds sat down together and thought: hey, we have awesome characters in those new Young Avengers. Why not get to know them a little?

Don’t get me wrong here, superheroes are made to punch things out and look cool doing it. But I don’t care about the fight if I’m not rooting for our hero, and I’m not rooting for our hero if I don’t know him. The original run of Young Avengers gave us great character moments between—and during—the action, and YA Presents expands upon what we learned there.

My favorite was Patriot’s issue. Eli is such an angry young man—it’s easy to forget that he’s also a thoughtful young man, extremely intelligent and gifted even minus superpowers. He went from a character I liked to my favorite on the strength of this issue. Hulkling’s is equally good, as he meets his father for the first time.

Not all the issues are perfect, but in my opinion only one was a disappointment, and five out of six is a winner as far as I’m concerned.

If you like the Young Avengers—the characters themselves—it’s hard to go wrong with Presents.

I'm biased.

3. Wiccan y Speed: MY BABIES.

6. Hawkeye (Kate): MY FAV.

Telling different tales for the Young Avengers characters. This one is a bit weaker than I had hoped. There's still some good moments, especially in Patriots story, but most of them are just kind of decent, with some cool insight of where they are in life, but doesn't feel like the team is back together in this one like I hoped. Still solid though, but more on a 3 or 3.5 out of 5.

Docela fajn sérka, která rozvíjí charaktery jednotlivých členů YA. Na "výplňový" sešity nadprůměr.

Pokud jste s tímhle týmem nic nečetli, ruce pryč (ano, divný výběr na NHM).

I loved that we got to see stories that focused more on one specific character (or two in Billy and Tommy's case), instead of having them all together. It meant that the characters' own conflicts got some resolution, and I like how they've all become more interesting and three-dimensional as the comics have progressed. The stories were short and sweet, and I liked all the different art styles.

Hawkeye's story was great, 5 stars. Then come Hukling's and the twins', 4 stars. Vision's was okay, 3 stars. Stature was somewhat bleh, 2.5 and the best thing about Patriot's was Bucky, 2 stars.
Need to read more Civil War, the part concerning the Young Avengers at least. I'll look for it.

I really loved the Teddy, Billy & Tommy and Kate stories here. The Eli story was pretty good but I did not enjoy the Vision or Cassie stories. The definition added to Kate and Eli here was really great to see and I love how this collection set up Children's Crusade.

Issue #1 - PATRIOT

I feel a lot of respect for this character, bc he's always fighting against racism and even though he's a little bit out of control of his rage. But I can understand why he's like that. This issue just give you that insight.

Issue #2 - HULKING

I could write an entire essay about how much I love this character. I've been reading a little about him, but still I have come to love him. He's so pure in so many ways, and this issue just shows some of the fears he has to endure and I just can't see him cry. He deserves happiness. He's one of my favorites.

Issue #3 - WICCAN & SPEED

I really love Billy, but I didn't like that much this issue bc it felt empty for me. I like speed, but in here he just feels a little away or idk.

Issue #4 - VISION

I like that vision tried to "connect" with himself and figure out who he is. I don't particularly like that relationship bc for me it was too quick since the first Young Avengers volume and I don't get it. Still looking forward to know what happens with that ship.

Issue #5 - STATURE

I like Cassie a lot, I think she's going through a lot and still managed to do right and I like this issue bc it shows how everyone can have moments when you don't feel you're enough and you just want to disappear. It shows how human they're and the sense of family between the members of the Young Avengers.

Issue #6 - HAWKEYE

I love Kate Bishop, thanks to marvel for bringing up this great character, I like her a lot. I this issue I get to know more about her and it's awesome. I like a little bit more Speed, but not my fave. I love the ship with Eli, I love them both. "ALWAYS TAKE THE SHOTS" (yeah, new mantra)

And about all the volume I like this type of introductions and I'm getting to care more and more for this characters. I'll definitely keep reading them.

This was overall a pretty fun collection of one-shots that shows what the Young Avengers are up to post-Civil War. I actually haven't finished reading Civil War yet (it's currently sitting on my bedside table!) but other than a couple of references and remembering who is and isn't dead it wasn't much of a problem. I generally like the characterisation and art a bit better in this than in the original Young Avengers (my favourite is the Billy & Tommy one but I'm just generally glad that the kids, especially Cassie, actually look like teens), although the issue about Hulkling has just GOD AWFUL art. For some reason the artist draws muscles like everyone has a whole load of tubes under their suits which is really awful. Some of it is cute and fun to see them hanging out, but I also think the stories are really solid for stories that are only one issue each - they don't feel rushed and they're handled well enough that I actually cried after reading the one about Cassie... My least favourite one is the one about the Vision because I think his relationship with Cassie is just awful, as well as the fact that Cassie calls Iron Lad her "boyfriend" - girl you kissed him once and then he went back to the future to become Kang the Conqueror, I don't think that counts. That being said, while I'm not super into what can feel like randomly pairing the teammates off, I get that their kids and I definitely know people that have acted like that too.
