Macoolay hated his tribe and its traditions. He didn't care that it was the first tribe of the wolf; he wanted to be amongst humans. He didn't want to be seen as an animal. When his brother is killed because he is believed to be a traitor, and he discovers that his wife is hiding things, he runs from the tribe. He bumps into a group of wolves all in hiding and discovers the truth about the tribe and its chief. He needs to work with the little group to survive on the run, but also to go back and help his tribe escape the dictatorship of their chief, who came into power under suspicious circumstances.
