Who doesn’t want to be rescued by a handsome firefighter? This is another adorable story from Adele Downs. The fun and funny way Lexi and Knox meet makes you smile from ear to ear. Knox has kept his heart walled off since his niece died, but finding a beautiful woman stuck in a tree is enough to put a crack in that wall. Lexi’s past has led her to a somewhat solitary life, but she decides to take a chance on her hero.

The author keeps the story moving through the quick read. And she is great at building heat between the characters. The attraction between them is intense and you can feel it in your gut as the author describes the action. Read this on your lunch hour if you have air conditioning in your office.

This was such an adorable, sweet, and funny read. I knew it was going to be amusing from the start and I couldn't help but read it in one sitting.
Poor Lexi. She found herself in quite the predicament but in the end it brought about good things. Like Knox. I love him. He's so sweet and funny. He just about broke my heart talking about his family. The two of them had amazing chemistry together.
This was a very sweet story. Lexi and Knox helped heal each other in a way and get over things that happened in the past. I only wish it were longer because I loved the two of them together and it was a fun story.

Hilda and Duncan have history together, but so does the arsonist trying to frame Hilda. lots of twists and turns. just when you think you know who the mystery arsonist is, a twist happens. keep reading for the whole story, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

I only read Rescue Me as it was available as a single story on Netgalley.

I love this author's paranormal stories so I was excited to pick this up. It was originally published as part of an anthology. This is a sweet second chance romance with a bit of suspense thrown in.

Frank and Martha knew each other as teens. They planned to spend their life together until Frank had an 'episode' and ran away without a word. Fast forward to a burning building and Martha trapped in side. Frank rescues her and they seem to be able to pick up right where they left off.

This is a short read with a lot of action packed into it. My only issue was I wished for more information into Frank. He really spent 20 years just saying--ehhh, whatever this is it is. Didn't try to reach out to anyone about what was happening?? He guesses he is a phoenix but I would have loved more of the mythology around that. It would have rounded out the story for me.

I'm ready to read more about these two. The story peaked by curiosity.

"What a way to meet a sexy Fireman"
This book is Marvelous it cracked me up at the very first page lol. The story line is incredible and the characters are so awesome!. Right first off Lexi cracked me up!. One morning she accidentally lets her kitten out who climbs up a tree and gets stuck. Lexi decides to climb the tree in nothing but a sheer nighty with matching thong that her friend Daniela talked her into buying. No one should see her that early in the morning right?. Little does she know she will get her leg caught and end up hanging up-side down from the tree. When she gets down she is going to kill Daniela for taking her into the out fit!. Knox is a sexy Fireman who finds her in the tree lol. Knox can not believe his eyes when he looks up in the tree and sees a sexy half dressed Woman hanging there!. Knox rescues her and while doing so they end up kissing witch shocks both of them. Knox wants to get to know her but its against the rules. Lexi sets out to find her rescuer and the sparks fly between them!. This is truly a sweet, touching and funny Romance!. If I could give it more then five stars I would!. It is a must must read book!

Poor, poor, poor Lexi gets herself in a real pickle in this one, chasing after her kitten, Ginger. For hours, she's stuck, with nary a soul to hear her cries for help. What happens that she is in the pickle? What exactly did Ginger do and what did Lexi do in response to that? This book had me chuckling in the first few chapters of the book. Thank goodness for hunky firemen in full turnout gear! Someone heard her cry of "Fire!" and "Call the Fire Department!" and they were dispatched to her road, not seeing anything. Mr. Hunky Fireman gets an itch on the back of his neck, he knows something isn't right. So they start canvassing the street. You really need to read this one to see what happens, because it is a doozy. Does she reconnect with Knox, the firefighter that rescued her from the accident? What about her friend Daniela? What happens to her after she sees Knox and Marcus in the hopsital hallway, asking about her condition? Do those two get together? Do Lexi and Knox get together?

This anthology is so hot you better have a fire extinguisher handy! Hot, hot, hot with firefighters, fire investigators, and some other surprises that will leave you smiling. In Firebrew, we meet Harriet and George. This is not your typical romance because it is gritty and raw. It deals with some serious issues that both of the main characters have. No matter what they keep coming back to each other, even though most times they have an antagonistic relationship. Next I read Hook Me Up and it was romantic with a side of comedy. I loved the idea of the hot firefighter trying to get back out there and live again after losing his niece and coping with that loss. Then I read Slow Burn and WOW this was great! Hilda and Duncan have a past and when an arsonist brings them back together, they will need to try and solve a mystery from the past while they are navigating their new relationship. This had a great suspense aspect to it. I highly recommend this series, especially on a cold and rainy day because it will heat you up and the rain will turn to steam!

First let me say at .99 and seven great HOT stories it's well worth the price. This set is scorching with seven fabulous authors all in one. Each story is quite different from the other it has everything from paranormal to historical and in-between. I was highly impressed with how the stories while short summed up so nicely for each author.

This book is a great sample of various authors and their writing styles if your unsure about an author and are not quite ready to fully dive into one of their full blown novels. I honestly couldn't pick a favorite. I was quite pleased with all of them including genres I tend to shy away from normally.

If you love firemen/fire women stories this set is for you. It's nice and sexy with of course some flames all in one.

Highly recommend if you want a taste of heat with these seven authors <3 Grab some popcorn and give this set a read. You for sure cannot beat this price. Even if it goes up it's worth it.

What do you get when you take a restless kitten, a hunky fireman and a young woman stranded in an ill-chosen negligee? Another hot read by Adele Downs, that’s what. Knox and Lexie meet through one of the most unique and original situations that I've read in a while. Part cute/funny, part harrowing and wholly touching, the tone is set from the start for their charming story to unfold. As always, I enjoy the secondary characters and subplots as much as the hero and heroine. Daniela, Marcus and the trouble-making, Rodriguez, enrich the reading experience with a little relationship drama of their own and plenty of laughs, while the fire ignites between Knox and Lexie (fireman's pun intended). As always, Ms. Downs crafts her characters with character, and most importantly, makes me fall in love. Put Hook Me Up at the top of your TBR.

I'm a big fan of Adele Downs and as usual she did not disappoint. I loved this story - and even though Knox is the one who saves Lexi from being stuck in a tree, she saves him, too. Knox's character was very relatable to anyone who has dealt with the death of a family member, and Lexi helps him overcome the grief from his niece's death. The relationship between the characters was sweet but hot, too, and as a novella it's the perfect length for those times when you only have a quick break to read.

I adored Lexi and Knox! Lexi was such a kind genuine person I knew it would be great to read about. Knox was in such a place that I just wanted to shake him in the beginning but he did grow on my as I read more of his story. I knew if he and Lexi could get together they would be perfect for each other. Lexi was amazing with how she was able to just let Knox share family story with her and support him. I enjoyed them a lot. This is my first story I have read by Adele Downs and I will for sure be looking to read more of her writing. It was a so good!

Fire Brew by Liz Crowe

I am a big fan of Ms. Crowe’s work, having read close to 20 of her books. She hasn’t written about firefighters before so I was interested to see how she would put her own spin on a book in this anthology.

Ms. Crowe is a master at portraying real people, with all of their flaws and ones where you are drawn into their lives. Harriet/Jane and George/Trey are people who have very different backgrounds but both hold themselves back from people. It is interesting how small details are interwoven into the story so that you learn more and more why they are emotionally disconnected in some ways.

Jane doesn’t hesitate to have sex with whomever she wants, which you traditionally see in a male character. I certainly don’t judge her for her sexual activities, but it was scary to see how she placed herself in harmful situations. I don’t want to give away the reason for some of her actions but it is interesting to learn how certain medical conditions can contribute to actions.

I also don’t want to give away the details of Trey’s life, as it is much more poignant to read about it. I had tears in my eyes to learn about his losses and how he reacted. He can’t help trying to rescue people.

Jane and Trey (they like to call each other by their first names of Harriet and George to aggravate each other!) meet when she shows him some property that he wants to purchase and restore. It was interesting to know that he was a firefighter and the building he bought for a microbrewery was a previously a firehouse. They are so drawn to each other and yet they keep backing away.

There are several suspenseful scenes in the book and kept me flipping the pages, unable to put it down.

There is also one almost perfect day when Jane’s friends get married and have an all-day party but it is also bittersweet.

I love epilogues and this one is just so perfect. They now call each other Harriet and George with their new lives. They are so funny when they want something so much and they manage to compromise, sometimes hilariously and sometimes heartbreakingly. George is so afraid of losing someone again and it is easy to understand how he panics at times, my heart just clenched knowing why he was so fearful. Harriet has found someone that is crazy about her and they find such love and acceptance in each other.

This story was an excellent addition to the Into the Flames anthology.

Rescue Me by N. J. Walters

Such suspense in a relatively short story! Frank Ellis, previously a firefighter and now currently a fire investigator, believes there is an arsonist based on several fires and clues he noticed. He was called to a house fire and was stunned to see that the home owner was someone he knew 18 years ago. They knew each other as teens and he left without any explanation after his high school graduation.

Martha Benson was heartbroken when Frank left without a word and she spent many years hoping he would return. They had both been in a house fire when they were young, which had mysterious aspects to who and how it was started.

When they saw each other again, they felt that instant connection. But, Frank could not tell her why he had left but he had flames that came from his fingers. He had a special affinity for fires and could easily determine if a fire had been set or was an accident, so there is a paranormal aspect to the story.

As they spend time together, more fires are started and you are left wondering which person could possibly be an arsonist and why.

It broke my heart to find out the reasons behind Frank leaving home after graduation but was happy that Frank and Martha had found each other again after so many years.

The combination of fire, suspense, and paranormal made this a page turner. Even though it is a fairly short story, I definitely knew enough about the characters to feel a connection. There were some twists and turns in the story where I wasn’t sure what was happening next and who was involved.

Hook Me Up – Adele Downs

This story started out a little funny with Lexi Wentworth trying to rescue her cat and getting stuck upside down in a tree, in a very flimsy nightie. Unfortunately, no one was around to hear her call for help, and with her knee injured, she started to panic.

Knox Townsend was on his way back to the station after a fire and got a call about a fire close by. He and his partner didn’t see any smoke but got out to walk the street. He found Lexi and they used the ‘cherry picker’ to raise him to where she was stuck. He also tried to stand in front of her to shield her from others seeing how she was dressed. The minute he had her safe in his arms, he felt an instant connection. Unfortunately, regulations prevented firefighters from contacting victims.

Unknown yet to each other, both were suffering from painful events in their lives. They both wanted to see each other but felt the restrictions based on how they met. Fortunately, Lexi contacted the Captain, waiting to take something to Knox and the other firefighters. She showed up with cupcakes and all of the men had to get a look. Knox felt some of his grief easing and invited Lexi to his ballgame, knowing there was an attraction between them but he wanted to get to know her before physical intimacy.

This was such a sweet, short story with a very sexy ending. I think I would like someone like Knox since he lived his life with integrity. He also felt that Lexi could understand his work and definitely wanted an exclusive relationship with Lexi. Lexi could see that Knox focused on protecting and his decency was easy to see, which made her feel safe after a painful event in her life.

The story was great but I since I love long epilogues, I would have enjoyed knowing more about their future because I loved the characters so much.

Slow Burner – Sam Cheever

This is a very suspenseful story with several twists and turns. Duncan Yves was injured in a fire as a young boy and became a cop, then a fireman, and current a fire investigator. He was friends with Hilda Bennett as a child and everyone thought she set the fire. Hilda and Duncan didn’t see each other again for 15 years, when he showed up at a house fire and saw her.

Duncan was searching through a string of fires, believing them to be arson but unable to prove it. He found a similar signature at Hilda’s house fire. There was an arsonist who ‘longed for the notoriety his art deserved’ and was known as The Artist.

It seemed like there was one fire after another with clues to make you think that one person or another was setting the fires. There were some gruesome details on how the arsonist killed some people and how many years ago that the fires were related.

Duncan and Hilda definitely felt a connection and there were some sensual scenes in the story. In the meantime, he tried to keep her safe, with the suspense building. There were so many events that people thought were one way and were actually something else. Great story that kept me turning the pages!

Hook Me Up by Adele Downs -
This was such an adorable, sweet, and funny read.

Rescue Me by N.J. Walters-
This one was smoking hot! Sexy and suspenseful, a really fast exciting read!
I love Frank. He's so sweet and protective. He left Martha years ago thinking to protect her and ends up saving her from a fire. To say sparks fly between them is an understatement. Martha was really great too. I like that she was very strong and a bit stubborn. They made a great pair and definitely belonged together.
I loved N.J. Walters books and this was another hit for me. I hope she writes more with phoenix's.

Where There's Smoke by Cindy Spencer Pape-
This was a really interesting and sweet read. I love that it took place in the 20's. It was very neat to see how the firemen ran things back then.
I really adored Nettie. She was very strong and sweet. She also had a bit of a sassy side. I really felt for her. She stayed in a bad situation because of a promise. Even at her own cost.
Eli is so sweet. He took Nettie in even knowing it could mean his reputation as well as hers. I also loved the he genuinely wanted to help people. He has a lot of money and could have just donated it to help the firehouse but he wanted to actually be a part of it.
This was a fast read and I really liked the authors writing style. I definitely plan on grabbing more from her in the future.

Slow Burner by Sam Cheever-
Sexy, suspenseful, with lots of action. This was one fast and really exciting read.
I really liked the main characters in this. Hilda and Duncan were both strong leads that you find out had a past connection. I loved Hilda's strength. She could be vulnerable but she tried to keep a strong front up through all this chaos going on. With her house being set on fire and others happening around her. Duncan was so protective and sweet with Hilda. He was convinced that there was an arsonist but no one believed him.
Bad things just seemed to keep happening to them and blame kept getting thrown their way. They were very supportive of each other and made a great pair.
This was a first from this author for me but I really enjoyed the writing style so it definitely wont be my last.

Delightfully heartwarming contemporary romance with hot firefighters. Yum!
This was my first time reading this author and I look forward to reading more of her books. This was a smooth read, with interesting characters. I really enjoy the book. It was a super fun read. What better way to meet a sexy fireman, than by hanging upside down practically naked in an apple tree.

Slow Burner - Sam Cheever

This was an extremely well crafted story, which I enjoyed tremendously. I thought I had it figured out who was the villain. But Miss Cheever is a mastermind and truly had me fooled - sort of. I loved it. Can’t wait to read more from this author..

Well written story, with great flow, and excellent characters. Riveting, and touched me.

Frank the Firefighter and possible Phoenix rescues the love of his life. The one he left behind at eighteen, because of some very life changing revelations. Due to those discoveries he ran leaving his family and Martha.

This story made me smile and the end made me cry lots of happy tears. If most definitely touched me. I’ll be looking for more books by this author.

Firebrew by Liz Crowe
5 Stars

Gritty - Intense - But so worth the read!

This is the first time I’ve read this author, so I had no idea what to expect. There is a warning at the beginning of the book that the author writes dark, gritty romance, which wouldn’t be my first choice. But I had promised to read and review this book, and I keep my promises. I could always review the book for writing style, even if I don’t care much for drama. At first I didn’t care much for George, and I really didn’t like Jane. But, hey a promise is a promise, so I read on. Thankfully I did.

Yes it’s gritty, intense, and downright disturbing at times. It’s also extremely well written. And much to my surprise I quickly found myself pulled into the story. I couldn’t put it down.

As the story unfolded, and I got to know the characters, the more they demanded my understanding. I began to root for Jane, and hope she could/would straighten herself out. There were moments of great laughter, lots of shaking my head at the mess Jane was making of her life, tears, joy, and simple understanding.

This book opened my eyes, made me think, feel a gamut of emotions, and then gave me my must have HEA.

5 Stars hands down. I will most definitely be looking for more books by this author.

I read this novella on a whim because I needed a palate cleanser. Hook Me Up was a pleasant surprise. I randomly stumbled upon this while searching for a Jill Shalvis book and am so glad I did.

Hook Me Up is a sweet contemporary romance with drops of sexiness mixed in. I would rate this a PG-13 type of read. There wasn't any explicit sex (more fade to black), but this story didn't need it. I really enjoyed Knox and Lexi's story. I loved that despite how short it was, I got to know the characters well and their back stories. The scenes and story itself never once felt rushed. It was perfectly paced and each scene flowed seamlessly into the other. I love reading romances about billionaires, shifters, etc, but sometimes I just like to go back to the basics and lose myself in a story about regular everyday characters. In Hook Me Up, I got to spend time with Lexi, a third grade teacher and Knox, a firefighter which was great.

Another thing that I loved was that there was a lack of instant love. There was a nice gradual buildup to Knox and Lexi's romance which I appreciated. It felt genuine. Their chemistry was nice and believable without feeling forced. I enjoyed the butterflies, first dates and conversations between Knox and Lexi. I liked that we got to see their courtship and romance blossom at a realistic rate especially in a market where insta-love and insta-lust are dominating. As for the ending, I'm a fan of HEA and this one ended on a HFN, but I had no issues with it. A HFN was definitely more fitting for these two. I liked that the author left the story open for possibilities. With that said, I wouldn't mind revisiting them again in a future novella.

All in all, I fully enjoyed Hook Me Up. It was a nice, feel good and sweet romance that will satisfy any reader. I'm excited to discover this new-to-me author and look forward to reading more of Ms. Down's works.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Thanks to an unconventional introduction by a scaredy cat, a firefighter and schoolteacher overcome sad pasts and obstacles to rescue each other. Adele Downs’ novella HOOK ME UP offers a captivating romantic slice of life between two onetime strangers who learn much more about each other as sparks fly between them.

Mourning his young niece’s death and sworn off women, Knox Townsend is dispatched to a fire call and finds an unfamiliar woman dangling bat like from a high tree branch from one leg wearing only a thong and purple lace swirling around her head. The new town resident is a refreshing change from the badge bunnies who pester Knox and his colleagues at the local watering hole.

Mortified that her impulsive actions to chase her frightened kitten up a tree led Lexi Wentworth to be rescued nearly naked along with her cat by the sexy firefighter. New to town, she aimed to rebuild her life after being abandoned by her now ex-boyfriend at the scene of a car accident.

After Knox and Lexi accidentally brush lips aboard a cherry picker before she is whisked away for a medical evaluation, both are smitten and focused on that forbidden kiss while each struggle to overcome an assortment of complications gung-ho on keeping them apart.

Travel along with Knox and Lexi on the wild a roller coaster ride to see if he can break company fraternization rules and if she can overcome her checkered relationship history, so they can move into the future together.

Sweet and sexy.
Women will always fantasize about men in uniforms, men with service positions, men with muscles.
Third grade teacher Lexi Wentworth had a fantasy or two like that. Her best friend and coworker Daniela had them more often. As Lexi hangs upside down tangled in an apple tree wearing a very see-through négligé, she wonders why she let Daniela talk her into buying such an outfit.

By the time she is rescued from the tree by handsome, uniformed Knox Townsend, Lexi is chilled through and befreft of any supposed dignity. Knox had no idea he would ever experience a rescue like this.
It is the sort of thing firefighters would dream about. However, he is totally professional about it.
Until the kiss.

It is against regulations for a fireman to get involved with someone he meets on the job, even if the damsel in distress wouldn't mind some follow up. Will life bring them together again?
Will Daniela get to partake in a fantasy of her own?

This is a clean but sexy sweet romance.

Hook Me Up:
Talk about being saved by a sexy fireman first thing in the morning. Little did Lexi know that getting stuck in a tree trying to save her kitten Ginger would change her life. When Knox first laid his eyes on her he knew she was the one and would do anything to see her again. This was a great book to read. It keeps your attention and draws you in from chapter 1. The chemistry between the characters never falter. It's a quick read and a great choice for a lunch break. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This anthology is a smorgasbord of romance stories all connected through the common theme of fire. This collection is not for the faint of heart. Some of the stories come with warning labels due to the extreme content. If you enjoy a variety of romance scenarios from past loves reunited, to love/hate relationships, to true soulmates this collection is for you.

Delightfully heartwarming contemporary romance with hot firefighters. Yum!

This was my first time reading this author and I look forward to reading more of her books. This was a smooth read, with interesting characters. I really enjoyed the book. It was a super fun read. What better way to meet a sexy fireman, than by hanging upside down practically naked in an apple tree.

It all started with a cat

Love at first sight for Lexi and Knox. A fun story that starts with a cat stuck in a tree and then Lexi. Sexy firefighter to the rescue. I highly recommend.

I have read several of the stories in this collection from an amazing collaboration of authors.
They range from clean, sweet and sexy to flaming hot and gritty.

An absolutely darling premise and a real hero of a firefighter. It's a novella, so it's quick, but there's plenty of story to deliver a satisfying ending.
