"Pig Legs." That was the nickname Makabe Masamune was cursed with by childhood classmate Adagaki Aki. But a lot has changed in eight years. He's lost weight, changed his name, and turned himself into a new man - and a handsome one at that.
Masamune's grand plan is ready to begin. He'll make Adagaki fall in love with him, and then dump her hard! It's a story of love and vengeance, plain and simple - what could possibly go wrong?
High school romantic comedy. Embarrassing as it might be to admit, I'm always drawn to these types of stories in movies, television, and books. Maybe it's because my high school life was pretty awful, but I really like seeing awkward people finding a way to fit in.
This is a revenge tale about a boy whose childhood female friend turned against him and began calling him insulting names regarding his weight. 8 years later, he is in high school, lost the weight, and changed his name, and he wants to get revenge on this girl by making her fall in love with him so he can humiliate her by publicly rejecting her. Yeah, the plot is that stupid, but the book was pleasant to read, I liked the characters, and it had a decent amount of humor. The art is also nice; nothing amazing, but it was all good.
I can't say I'm dying to read the next one, but I am curious enough that I'll probably pick up another sometime.
1.5 - I thought this was gonna be great and fabulous. But honestly it has everything I don’t really like.
I stopped reading this for a long time then finally forced myself to pick it up and finish it. My problem is that everyone was predictable. If you know character and story tropes, you are likely to guess this volume.
I liked the main character but not the girl he was getting revenge on. She’s a jerk. Her helper was decent. Not sure I liked her or not.
The fanservice in this was REALLY annoying. It’s part of why I had to stop.
Overall, I have mixed emotions about this first volume but, I like the idea of someone being bullied getting revenge on their bully, even if I don’t necessarily like the fake romance part of the person’s plan. I’ll read the next volume before giving a more exact review and to see if I want to keep reading.
I finished manga, the bonus oneshot, and the engagement manga. From revenge plan to a giant misunderstanding. All in all, I preferred the anime more tbh, but manga wise ig I enjoyed the engagement one more since it was shorter + it was nice to see this story wrap up.

I found this manga through a list of romantic shoujo manga recommendation, but turned out it was shounen and it showed. Not only that this contains harem, the occasional fanservice also made me a little uncomfortable at times, but when I looked past that I think this was pretty enjoyable. At least there was a main guy and a main girl. The main guy's focus was solely on this one girl and he didn't dabble with 'the other options' as other harem stories usually do.
I loved the premise! The execution, though, was different that what I would've preferred. I liked Masamune because he was raw and rather funny. He was overweight and got bullied as a kid, and after he became slim, muscular, and handsome, it was obvious that he wasn't used to being popular despite his 'narcissistic' tendencies. It was like his 'old self' still lived with him, which was actually realistic for a lot of people who went through a 'glow up'. He believed he was confident, but oftentimes his behaviors reflected otherwise. Masamune's awkwardness gave me secondhand embarrassment at times, but I couldn't dislike him for being that way, haha.
The main girl I wasn't really a fan of, but somewhere around volume 6 I had begun to warm up a little to her. She wasn't how she initially appeared to be.
Overall, a nice romantic story. I didn’t care much for the other characters, unfortunately. They were okay at best.
I started to read the manga since the Anime felt incomplete (as always) so much potential from the original source just to be adapted halfway....
A romance/REVENGE! Story so far it does follow the same pattern as the Anime slow start, introduction of characters etc still moving foward moving to the next volume!
I picked this up when I found it at the used-book store because I’ve seen some of the anime. It’s pretty cute and I wish our library had it because I don’t think I like it enough to go buy more. This was the only one at the used-book store but maybe I’ll keep checking back.
This is a fun cute read, and I found myself laughing so darn much I couldn’t help it, Aki can be quite cute at times with certain quirks of hers but boy does she need to tone down how she rejects people like seriously, it’s unnecessarily cruel.
Chapter 1: The Man Who Was Called 'Piggy' Chapter 2: Cinderella does not smile Chapter 3: The Simple Job of Exchanging Addresses Chapter 4: Yoshino's Magic Show
3.5/5 (This review is for all 10 books in the series) Have you ever suffered a broken heart that drove you down the wrong path? While Masamune-kun’s Revenge hook is extremely shallow, underneath there are some decent character beats to keep readers interested.
One can’t deny the aggravation in watching high schooler Masamune Makabe attempt get revenge on his childhood sweetheart, whose shallow, egotistical, and idiotic behaviors drive a wedge in all his relationships, but the story’s hook comes from watching these charismatic fools and the hope that they will change for the better. To its credit the narrative has some juicy plot twists the keep the viewer guessing and it’s effective at teasing the “will they won’t they” in a cliched, if not enjoyable way. Unfortunately its shortcomings are equally glaring, with immature character interactions and plot points tied up off the page.
While nothing extraordinary, Masamune-kun delivers its promise at being a vain, bittersweet romance. It’s sure to satisfy the hopeless romantics in us all.
+Unique spin on the vanilla “will they won’t they” story +Solid plot twists that keep viewer engaged -Shallow character interactions can be a turn off for some -Certain plot threads are tied up prematurely -Supporting cast distracts from main couple in a negative way
The story actually has a fun hook with the revenge theme and Cinderella motif. It's too bad the creator didn't have enough confidence in his tale and characters, though, and instead resorted to inserting an excessive amount of fan service. Despite that, I'll seek out the second volume at the library.
FYI, since it seems to be missing above, here's the back cover copy:

I honestly had no interest in this story. It's a pretty basic, misogynist premise. But AniFem had a creator spotlight on the illustrator and so I picked it up to check it out. The illustrations really are beautiful, and the story was just engaging enough and left just enough room for subversion of the tropes it plays off of in the first volume that I may continue with this for a while longer.
There is quite a bit of fanservice, but I watched Eromanga-Sensei today so it wasn't as annoying in comparison. (Sidebar, don't watch Eromanga-Sensei. Do as I say, not as I do.)
I read this awhile ago and remember thinking it was a great start to a series but since I didn't have access to any other volumes I read a summary of the rest of the plot and was glad I hadn't invested in the series. But since I don't remember exactly why, I'll refrain from a star rating. The first volume is good, though!
