G.I. Joe…
Joe Hawke is an old fashioned hero. He sounds like a G.I. Joe.
He and his team are called on to find Poseidon’s tomb. It’s supposed to be the key to immortality.
But a master criminal is onto the same thing as he and his team. The criminals will do anything to get their hands on the treasure and trident and whatever else is available.
Joe Hawke and the team have their work cut out for them.

Inconsistent, implausible, glad it was free...
Marble..surface mined
WW2 SS officer carrying a Mauser? Maybe a Walther or Luger...
The list goes on and on....
Favourites are the super human efforts of Lea after having "something" broken in her shoulder...and attaching skis to combat boots and beating a tram, gondolas are smaller, down a mountain with no previous knowledge of the area...

I have taken some time to consider this review. At first I was taken with the humour and the pace of the story. The humour continued to amuse me, but the pace, the violence and the seemingly simplistic escapes from the most dire of circumstances began to pall. I actually struggled to finish the book, and was glad when I had done so. I think the author has worked very hard, but his plotline just left me a little cold in the end. Best of luck to Joe Hawke in the future, but I shall not be following them in the future.

Guilty Pleasures
With this type of book you'll find that for every ten 5-star reviews there's one 1-star review complaining about the plausibility of the story or moaning about the typos.
You don't read these sort of books for the accurate depiction of action sequences, you read it because you want movie-style chase sequences, close shaves, evil baddies, gung-ho heroes and a ragtag selection of supporting characters. And, like in anything by Andy McDermott, Clive Cussler or Matthew Reilly that's exactly what you get. It's almost an actions adventure by numbers, but they are good numbers.
They might have a point about those typos though...

What a great introduction to a new series. This is basically a roller coaster ride of full on adventure with Joe picking up helpers on the way. I really enjoyed this debut and I'm looking forward to the next where I hope the characters start to get fleshed out a bit more, but still fully recommended

Don't waste your time
This us just one chase after another. They chase this mad megalomaniac down this series of caves and then he floods it and they chase him back up. It's too unbelievable and it never stops or even slows down No character development . just a wise cracking hero you cannot believe in. Totally silly.
You'd have more fun sorting out your sock drawer !

Enjoyed
Interesting perspective on Poseidon and the gods of Greece woven in with an exciting story line. This story held my imagination for hours. Looking forward to reading the next adventure of Joe Hawke.

Great read
Anyone who is an action adventure fan will love this book. It has all the action you could want, and some great plot twists. The character development is spot on !

For one of the reading challenges I am taking part I had to read a book on a specific Greek island called Kefalonia.
The Vault of Poseidon is a modern Indiana Jones of secret services, and we travel to many countries.
While reading the e-book, I also listened to the audiobook through the Scribd app. Sorry, but as a narrator, Shaun Grindell is not good in his accents, especially the Greek ones. As a Greek, I know how most of my countrymen and women speak English, and I know their accents very well.
The truth is you don't read these sorts of books for the accurate depiction of action sequences; you read it because you want movie-style chase sequences, close shaves, evil baddies, gung-ho heroes, and a ragtag selection of supporting characters.
I had some trouble with the characters who could only communicate via sarcasm, regardless of the situations they faced, which felt unnatural and grew a little tiresome.
I might continue with the series because I am interested in finding out more about them, Like the nightingale and what will happen between Joe Hawke and Leah Donovan.

This is an entertaining escapism novel and Rob Jones does deliver an enjoyable action/adventure novel to start the Joe Hawke series. In the style of Clive Cussler, Matthew Reilly, Steve Berry, Andy McDermott or James Rollins, Jones does promise a new hero in Joe Hawke, an ex-SBS operative (Special Boat Service drawn from the British Royal Navy) now working as a bodyguard.
Sir Richard Eden (Member of the British Parliament), in charge of a highly covert section of the intelligence services, has a passion for archaeology and asks Jones to team up with his head security officer, Lea Donovan, and her scholarly, ex-husband, Ryan Bale, in a race to locate the lost Tomb of Poseidon. From London to New York, to Geneva, to Athens and the Greek Islands, the team must overcome adversaries to find the clues to the location of this particular MacGuffin, the "Trident of Poseidon".

In my opinion, this is a great start to a very interesting and enjoyable series
Action and adventure books are one of my favourite genres, but sometimes that can go against a book because I expect so much
This book, however, had all the elements I enjoy. A hero you can get behind, importantly for me a strong female character, and a bit of humour as well
If you are a fan of these sorts of books, then I strongly recommend you add this to your collection. Give it a try!

It's not implausible, it's ridiculous. A villain is shot in the throat with a .50 caliber rifle yet survives, veteran agents repeatedly fail to secure or search suspects, heroes with broken shoulders engage in unarmed combat with villains twice their size. But my personal favorite, our indomitable heroes fire "rifle-launched grapnels from their crossbows", having previously not been equipped with either rifles or crossbows. I might try the next one, it can't get worse.

This was a new author to me so I didn’t know what to expect but I enjoyed reading this fast paced book. Ok so some of the book is not historically correct but so what? This is not a history lesson but rather a very entertaining and very fast paced adventure book. It is a fictional novel and the author is entitled to write what he wants and how he wants. I loved it and will definitely read more of Joe Hawke’s adventures.

I think I have a new favorite author!😀 What a great adventure and I learned some things. The characters are intriguing. I kept watching this movie in my head and can't wait for more of Joe's missions.

A rad-tad team from different forces go in swath of the Trident of Poseidon.
Hawks has some concerns about the team as they are not known to him.
Is everyone who they claim to be.

Joe Hawke, a recently retired special forces expert, is providing security for a British Museum extravaganza which includes several high ranking government officials. The assassination of a college professor on the exhibit floor plunges Joe into a frantic search for the location of a mythical tomb called the Vault of Poseidon. The obstacles he, and his makeshift team, encounter far surpass anything he had dealt with as a member of the Special Boat Service. There are a lot of bodies spread across Europe, from England, to the Greek Islands, the Mediterranean, and on to Switzerland. Even with several miraculous escapes, there are a lot of loose ends when all is said and done.

Good book good action, a little too much like a cheesy 80s action movie. The bad guy was missing a twirly mustache with the "you cant do this!" Lines towards the end but otherwise good book
