A Texas Ranger teams up with a beautiful DEA agent deal to take down a deadly drug lord in this romantic suspense novella by a New York Times bestseller.Out of danger and . . . into his armsUndercover DEA agent Kelly Sloan was tasked with taking down Mexican druglord Dominic Ortega, but when her cover was blown, she barely escaped with her life. After being taken out on his yacht and tortured for information, she literally leapt at the chance to escape overboard, figuring death at sea was better than death at the hands of her vicious captor. But fate had something other than death in mind for her.Texas Ranger Quinn McCord was dealing with problems of his own, so the last thing he needed was a gorgeous, nearly naked woman with a shady past. And before the unconscious beauty on the beach even came to, he knew she was either trouble or in trouble—maybe both—because the men patrolling the shallows with a speedboat and binoculars weren’t tourists out for a day’s fishing. His finely honed instincts told him that she was their quarry, and that he had to protect her and find out what was really going on.If Kelly was shocked to find herself waking up in the arms of a handsome stranger, Quinn was no less surprised to discover that his damsel-in-distress was a very capable agent who’d quite possibly killed the infamous Dominic Ortega before getting away. Unfortunately for them both, Ortega hadn’t died. Instead he’d put a two-million-dollar bounty on her head and sent his army of killers-for-hire in pursuit. Now Kelly and Quinn are both the pursued and the pursuers as they try to stay alive long enough for Kelly to testify against Ortega—and for the two of them to follow up on the once-in-a-lifetime attraction neither one of them wants to fight.Previously Published in On the Edge.

This short romantic suspense had all the ingredients for a good story. There was lots of fast paced exciting action, an alpha Texas ranger hero, a kick-butt DEA agent heroine, and a whirlwind romance. A quick and enjoyable read. Quinn is fishing when he finds a near naked Kelly who has washed up on shore.

Undercover DEA agent Kelly Sloan has her cover blown and next step is torture. During the process that takes place on a boat in the Gulf of Mexico, Kelly Sloan manages to escape. Texas Ranger Quinn McCord is out fishing when a body appears, coming out of the ocean. He rescues the woman and discovers she is a DEA agent and soon after a bounty is placed on her. Can he succeed in getting her to DC to testify against the drug cartel before someone collects the bounty?

I loved that Kelly was no damsel in distress. I also love that she accepted Quinn's help. It was a nice little romance. Most of which was spent trying to stay alive and getting to their destination. It says it was previously published but I don't know what it was previously published as.

Apparently I am not on the same page as the rest of the world. While the writing style was good, I have to say the plot absolutely killed me! I was looking forward to reading this book, even though I haven't always liked this author. However, the entire time I was reading, I had to groan. The plot is exactly what I would expect to see from a middle schooler's English paper, for all the depth it contained. Oh no! They saw a truck on the beach and automatically circulated his tags as a suspect in helping her. Oh no! The clerk saw a guy at the motel not registered that was a friend of Quinn's, and the clerk just happened to know his name and where he frequented. Oh no! The body shop owner knew it was the 2 people on the run because he was driving a black Dodge truck. It was just bad luck his buddy stopped in to tell him about the bounty while he was getting his car fixed. And the body shop owner just happens to call everyone on the hunt to update them on the new look so there could be more people looking. And oh no! Someone just happens to see their car on the side of a desolate road. And oh what a relief! She's best friends with the President's daughter so after days on the run, she just now decides to call him to come get her. No issues, no drama. And wonder of wonders, after testifying at the arrangement hearing, the drug kingpin will just remove the bounty on her head cause he's caught now anyways. No matter that he's going to get death row because of her. I just have one word to say about all of it. Really?!?! I probably would have given a 10 year old an "A" on this paper. But an award winning author? Give the kid his paper back and maybe spend more time developing a story so it seems more realistic.
2 stars and the only reason for the second is for the "grown up" writing style.

Should have been a full length novel. The events had to be resolved quickly since it was basically a short story, so I would have enjoyed things more fleshed out. But no complaints.

DEA undercover meets Texas Ranger. Also, fisherman meets mermaid. Kelly is a DEA agent working undercover for the DEA, finding evidence against a dangerous Mexican drug lord. She is thrown off the rich man's boat off of Galveston, and the vacationing Ranger rescues her.

Unfortunately, many people know that she is alive, and the rich man offers a huge bounty for her death. Bottom feeders from all around the South find their trail and try to kill them both. Kelly finally calls in the father of an old friend, who just happens to be the President of the United States.

After their rescue and her testimony at the rich man's arraignment, they find time to announce their love. Good one.

First book I've read by Sharon Sala. Actually liked it better than I expected. Some of it was a little 'well who didn't see that coming!' predictable. She was safe in DC for 3 days before the trial but not one person, including herself, thought to get her some decent clothes to wear? Really? I don't want to spoil it by saying where Kelly was being kept safe, but I don't believe she was running around this particular house in the leather, cropped t-shirts, tight shorts and red cowboy boots that was the extent of her wardrobe when she was rescued.

Fun book

Kelly is undercover for the DEA when her cover gets blown. When she finally escapes, with the help of a Texas Ranger, it's a life or death run to Washington DC to testify. I loved the characters in this book, there was lots of sassy banter and the heroine was not afraid to speak for herself and defend her partner. As always I look forward to more of Sharon Sala's books.

So much potential, but fell short. A quick, easy read, but very predictable. Some points are unbelievable.

Good solid read.

I truly enjoyed this book. For a romance, I give full marks for a solid storyline. For fully developed characters, and wow! were there "characters. "

I bought this book looking for a couple hours of entertainment. What I got was full novel quality. Needless to say, I will be looking more closely at more of Sharon's romance novels!!!!

Thank you, Sharon Sala!!!!!

This fast-paced novella features Kelly Sloan, DEA undercover agent, captured by a Mexican drug lord, and Quinn McCord, a Texas Ranger who witnesses her harrowing escape and comes to her aide. Not Sala's best work, but it's still a fun, short read with lots of action and romance. Enjoy!
