A serial killer with a dark message…
Summer in Detroit, when the scalding heat and brutal humidity can drive crime and turn a man crazy, Detective Maxine Jonas keeps her cool, thriving in the face of the murder spike and otherwise reveling being back on top. An investigator who tames her Multiple Personality Disorder with the same gumption she uses to make a charge stick, Max has never felt more in control.

On the job, she's the brassy half of an investigative dream team, her partner, Det. Grey Gaudin the other. And when her firefighting boyfriend Asa gets serious and proposes,Max feels on top of the world.

But when a woman is discovered hanged in her basement one stifling morning, Max's world is suddenly turned upside down. The body has been bathed, dressed in raunchy lingerie, nails and toes painted with disturbing care, but one eerie fact trumps all the rest. The woman looks a lot like Maxine.

The killer is methodical. Not one trace has been left behind. And soon Max understands why. Another woman turns up dead in an identical manner, then another, and there will be more. The killer is on a dark mission and won't stop until his message is heard.

Maxine must catch him before he strikes again. If she doesn't she'll be next.
