Ugh. What a disappointment. I loved the first book, Reaper, even though it had its quirks, so I jumped right into this follow-on. I don't know what happened, but It's as if another writer penned this book. The writing is choppy, not smooth and several instances of concepts/words repeat from one paragraph into the next. ('too possessive of her...too possessive of her', 'need to take it slow...need to take it slow') - paragraph rewrites but neglecting to edit out one of them. As to the story, consistency is lacking there as well. There is more explanation early in the book about the 'rescued girls', obviously setting up for book 3, and not enough about what happened to Sammy, the main storyline for this book! As to the characters introduced positively in book 1, I couldn't connect to Sammy this time and didn't find her sympathetic in the least, and Sarah, the adorable female lead from Reaper, is annoying and overbearing. The difference between Reaper and Animal is mind-blowing and disappointing. Two stars.
