PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE THREE AUTHORS WITH SAME NAME (B.J. SCOTT) MY BOOKS ARE HISTORICAL ROMANCE NOVELS
With a passion for history and romance, I have several exciting works in progress. Each manuscript offers a blend of passion, adventure and where appropriate, a dab of comic relief. Carefully researched historical facts are woven into the storyline, providing a backdrop from which steamy romance, gripping plots and vivid characters—dashing alpha heroes and resourceful, beguiling heroines you can't help but admire—spring to life. I also write contemporary, paranormal, time travel and romantic suspense.
After several years in the nursing and child and youth work fields, I met and married my knight in shinning armor and he whisked me away to his castle by the sea. Actually, it is a century old home in a small town on the shore of Lake Erie, where we reside with our three dogs and a cat.
While born in Canada, my ethnic background( grandparents back) were from Scotland, Ireland and England. Perhaps the reason for my facination with anything Celtic. In the fourth grade, I discovered the work of C.S Lewis, and was hooked. When I am not writing, working at my childcare job or on my small business, you will find me reading, camping or antique hunting.

2.5 stars. This story wasn’t bad, but the timeline was so fast that it ruined any kind of emotional connection the MCs might have had.
The heroine is widowed and loses her son (on page). This is a gruesome scene in the beginning, and painful to read. Her reaction to losing the two most important people in her life is very mild imo, and not at all realistic. With her family and most of her husband’s clan dead, she is forced to return to her father’s home, but finds herself betrothed once again. Just two weeks after the death of her husband and son, the heroine is sent to the keep of the clan she is meant to marry into. The hero has been sent to escort her, and she feels an almost immediate connection to him. It’s love at first sight for him. She does make an attempt to thwart his advances for a short while… but is proclaiming her love for him only a few short months later. I think all told, the story took place over ~3 months max (from the death of her family to remarrying the hero). IMO, the author ruined this story with this unrealistic timeline. There is no way in hell that a woman who loves her husband and son to the extent that the heroine claimed to …will just turn around and move on so quickly.
The hero was pretty great, but his feelings for the heroine were just way too instalove for me. Also, the villain of the story was obvious for most of the book. I don’t think I’ll be reading books by this author again.
SWE; story starts with the heroine having just finished making love with her soon-to-be-deceased husband, hero’s past is unknown but it’s assumed he has been celibate, not a manwhore, no OW drama, heroine is betrothed to the hero’s brother, brother is uninterested in the heroine (only agreed out of duty) but it causes the hero to attempt to distance himself. No other scenes with OM/OW after the opening, and no cheating.
Triggers… lots of misogyny and sexism in this book, some intentional, some I don’t think was, on page death, bloodshed, gore, loss of heroine’s husband and 3mo old son (on page), attempted rape of heroine, aftermath descriptions of women who were raped and killed, pregnancy.

So, 24 reviews and no one mentioned the words sex or sexual tension. I almost didn’t buy this book because of that. That’s also how a lot of authors get 1 star reviews, someone looking for a book without sex and then finding out there is. Or someone looking for a book with sex and having it not mentioned so they by-pass this one. You’d have thought that in 24 reviews someone would have mentioned it. I looked up the word “sex” in the search box and there was none. How stupid is that. The minute I read the part where Gavin thought of what he’d like to do to Brianne I knew I wouldn’t be sorry for buying this book. I liked the storyline immediately, add some sex into it, and it was bound to be good.
The part I found a little strange was that Brianne referred to her dead husband, Tieran, as “the love of her life,” and she would “always love him” and she would “never love again,” yada, yada, yada. BUT it was not that long before she was telling Gavin she loved him. That part was rather rushed.
However, it was a really good story. There was three men you loved to hate: Brianne’s father, Laird Keith, and Gavin’s brother Dermid, and Gavin’s father, Laird MacClurry, but I’d have to say Laird Keith was the worst of the three. Two others were “hateable” also: Angus and Ulrik. They were pretty terrible. There were so many bad guys in this story! But I did like Colin, Caledonia and Alice.
The sex in this book was explicit, so if you don’t like that then keep looking. And the F-bomb was used 4 times.
I will definitely be reading more by this author.
As to the narrator: Angela Dawe has become one of my favorite narrators over the past year. She reads with emotion and gives every character his or her own voice. AND the men sound like men. You can’t ask for more than that.
Another wonderful B.J. Scott read that starts off very emotional right from the beginning as Brianne Dunbar of Clan husband and three month infant son are murdered by one of their clan's worst enemies Clan MacClurry as there was a brooch with the Clan MacClurry crest and a piece of bloodied cloth with the colors and pattern often worn by this clan. The one thing Brianne promises her deceased husband was to protect the Druid stone her deceased husband Tieran Dunbar clan has protected for generations no matter the cost.
Then from orders from Gavin, the leader of the Clan Mac Clurry entourage as the King James has ordered that Brianne marry Laird MacClurry's womanizing, drunkard, eldest son Dermid . For the soul reason to stop the bloodshed between clans and fetch the newly widowed Brianne.
Brianne's sire,John Keith of Glen Ceiteach has not seen or spoken since Brianne ran away with her husband to marry. Since her fathers bride price was too high of a price as he lusted after the Druid stone though it is just heresay, as it is a much guarded secret by her husbands clan. They being madly in love since the marriage price was too high they ran off to get married anyway and Brianne had not spoken to her father since. He was a very self absorbed selfish man and since she ruined his plans to use her as a pawn to increase his lands with rich alliances and marry to an old man three times her age.
All things are not what they seem and some betrayals are hard to forgive. It a very touching story of murder, deceit, treachery and lies yet also beauty, love, happiness, forgiveness and rebuilding. I highly recommend to read this captivating Scottish historical romance. The suprprise ending shall surely capture any lover of romance's heart.
copy from Tantor Audio. original review at: http://ramblingsfromthischick.blogspo... This was my first story ever by B.J. Scott and it was a great introduction to this authors work. I really enjoyed this story and the characters. Although I like historical romance, sometimes highlander stories take me a while to get into but “Bedded by Her Highland Enemy” grabbed my attention from the first few sentences.
Our heroine, Brianne Dunbar, is happy and in love. She shares a wonderful life with her husband and child until that is all tragically taken away. With one attack on her husband clan she loses her husband and three-month baby. Brianne’s only incentive is to seek revenge on those that took her husband and child’s life. Brianne’s pain is only mocked when her father promises her to their worst enemy.
Gavin MacClurry is Brianne’s future brother-in-law. He has been sent to take Brianne from her home and deliver her to her brother as part of an order made by King James. Brianne is not aware that Gavin is her intended husbands brother and when she finds out she is angry at Gavin and feels betrayed. Gavin understands Brianne’s conflicting emotions. He sympathizes with her tremendous loss but only wants to protect her even if it means seeing her marry his brother. Brianne feels a terrible burden because she is mourning for her great loss but at the same time her feelings for Gavin are her only salvation and hope. He has been the only male that she has encountered that has shown her protection and respect. Even though Brianne tries to hate Gavin she sees him for the wonderful man that he is and she soon falls in love with him.
B.J. Scott really knows how to create a great story. She had many twists and turns and there were many unexpected surprises. This story did not drag for me at all. I loved the pacing, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next and how Gavin and Brianne could find their way to one another when they seem to have many insurmountable obstacles. This story made me a fan of Scott and I cannot wait to read more by her. Gavin was truly a hero and I really liked him. My only complaint was that at times I wanted him to become angry or crazy but he always took the higher ground. My other little issue was the amount of time that Brianne lost her family and fell in love with Gavin. For other reasons that I will not name, this plot worked but I felt that more time would have been better. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.
Angela Dawe did an amazing job of narrating this story. At first it seemed she was rushing through the story but the voices she gave the characters made the story come alive and she really seemed to understand them.
Brianne Dunbar's husband and son are killed in a Clan attack and she is forced to go back to her father's keep where he and the King has arranged a marriage for her. The worst thing is, he's from the Clan that killed her husband and son.
Gavin MacClurry has been tasked with fetching his brothers betrothed and bring her to their keep.
When Brianne accuses his clan for the murder, he knows his father and clansmen didn't do it and sets out to prove it, he also knows his brother is cruel and doesn't really want her and is only doing so because the King wants the feuding to stop, but Gavin doesn't want to rock the boat when he realises that he's falling in love with Brianne.
This is another fabulous story from the remarkable B. J. Scot, her writing sweeps you into the Highlands and it's like being in another time. Does Gavin find the evidence and if Brianne believes him, what happens, does she marry Dermid, Gavin's brother, read the book to find out, you won't want to put it down until you finish it. I know it's on my keeper shelf, so I can revisit again and again.
B. J. Scott, with her Highland Series, has become one of my most favored treasured authors. This is one author I mark my calendar for all future releases and has been placed on my auto purchase list. I finished Bedded by Her Highland Enemy in one sitting, reading into the night because I couldn’t put it down. This sexy passionate romance captures the reader from the first page and simply will not let go.
The heroine, Brianne Dunbar, loses both her husband and son during an attack on their keep. Immediately after their burial she finds her father, which she despises, with the king’s approval has betrothed her again and insists she marry immediately, without mourning her loss. Her father, who disowned her upon her marriage to her husband laird of the Dunbar Clan, believes his daughter has the Druid Stone which has been in the Dunbar Clan for centuries, and wants it for himself. It is said that whoever has the Druid Stone will be protected from all and obtain much power. Brianne is a strong independent lady and she does have the stone, of which she promised her husband she would keep it safe and pass it on to their son one day. She doesn’t want to wed, especially to one of their greatest enemies. Her betrothed sends his brother, Gavin MacClurry, to collect his betrothed and escort her to their home. Gavin is captivated by his brother’s betrothed, and as his brother is a womanizing lecher, he wants Brianne’s heart for himself.
This book begins with highly emotional sparks and delivers all the way through filling every expectation of the reader. It is filled with every emotion imaginable and doesn’t disappoint in any aspect. I highly recommend this author and book to anyone who loves reading top shelf historical romance.
When Brianne Dunbar’s husband, Tieran and their son are brutally murdered by an enemy clan and she is forced by the King to marry this same enemy she plots revenge. She never counts on finding love again.
This is another great highlander book by B J Scott. From the very first page this story will keep you quickly turning the pages to see what happens next. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. Just when you think things can’t get worse for Brianne, they do. There are a few bad guys that are very bad but there is a Hero that is very good. He has honor, strength, and was a man who could lead. His brother not so much! B J Scott has done it again!
I have been a fan of B.J. Scott for a while now, and I love the way she writes!!! With her newest release, Bedded By Her Highland Enemy, we find Brianne, a recent widow, who must return to the father who hates her to ask for help. All he wants is the Stone she carries and to marry her off again. This is once again, an awesome highlander book by B J Scott. Once I began reading, I could not stop…there was action, adventure and plenty of romance!!! I felt for Brianne, but knew there had to be a “light at the end of the tunnel”. Thank you Miss B J Scott…it was a fabulous read…I enjoyed every minute of the “ride”!!!
As always another wonderful tale from BJ Scott. This story grabs you right from the start & never lets you go.From the tragic death of our heroines husband & baby, this story is full tragedy, love, betrayal& forgiveness.... I found all the characters complex & well developed. This is one book you will not be able to put down I cryed, laughed, got angery..this story is so well told & just the right amount of blending of each element, love, betrayal & descriptions, that this tale was brought to life...loved it !! Wish I could give this one more then 5 stars...this tale was perfection.
I love BJ Scott as a writer and this book I truly believe is one of her best. The premise of Briannes story is so descriptive of medieval life and her tragedies and challenges she faces are daunting. Gavin is extremely strongly written character is breathtaking . This couple struggles and there is inspiring and mesmerizing. The writing is some of the most superb writing I have read in a very long time and I have read some great books by great authors . If a six star or a 10 star rating were possible I wouldn't hesitate in a heartbeat.
All the intrigue, adventure, and ruthlessness of medieval Scotland is found in this emotional tale. The war-like culture of the Clans is illustrated in this story of love, loss and rediscovered love so well. The reader feels the agony and turmoil and the very fragile state of life which is depicted so well. The hero and heroine are very likeable and easily esteemed. The author has done a wonderful job in developing their complexity, and I have no reservations in totally loving everything about them. A very worthwhile romance to experience!
The love story of Brianna and Gavin. After her clan and family are kill in attack, Brian goes back to her father's clan for help and protection but when she get there he tell her he and King James have betroth her to the clan she think kill her family. The man she is betroth to is a womanizer, selfish, and very cure. He sent his brother to bring her to their keep and on the way there they fall in love. Can love grow for hate or will she keep her vow to revenge her family and clan. Great story.
Treachery, loyalty and Romance bundled into a riveting story. Brianne found true love twice. She had a painful road to travel, but she got there to live happily ever after with Gavin. Reading and listening with immersion reading made it all the better.
It would be nice to have a Gaelic/English dictionary included in the provided Kindle Dictionaries that includes pronunciation. The Audible recording helped with pronunciation, but not the meeaning.
I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. Nothing really stood out to me or set it apart when I first picked it up... and then I started reading it and wow! I'm impressed by the writing, everything is written so vividly and it flows really well. The characters are great and it is a fun storyline. It was mostly predictable but I was so involved in the story that I didn't care. A couple things I found hard to believe but other than that, a very enjoyable read.
Brianne Dunbar has been through hell. She has surcoced the massacre that took the life of her husband and son (who she was very much in love with) and she now vows to seek revenge when she learns the king has ordered her to marry the lecherous son of the Laird she believes is responsible for the attack which killed almost all of her clan, a clan she has loves and called family. Can she follow through with her plan or revenge, or will the secrets she carries change her destiny.
Gavin MacClurry has been sent to retrieve Brielle and deliver her to his clan to the Laird's oldest son who he has no respect for and is his brother. Despite every effort to resist temptation, Gavin finds himself utterly captivated by his brother's bethrothed. Now he must find a way to stop the wedding, prove his clan's innocence, and then win Brianne's heart. Sounds easy and straightforward right?, but that's not be because when is it ever straightforward?
Bj Scott shows off her talented writting skills in this wonderful stand alone novel. I can tell you that I was cheering for the heroine right from the start. She is a very strong woman to go through all of the things that she did and was pushed into things through no choice of her own. My favorite part of this book is that this poor lady got her Happily Ever After. My hat goes off to BjScott as she knows just what us the readers want in a book.
Love, sadness and hardship and love again. I absolutely loved the characters and storyline so much. Brianne, Gavin, the children, made for a beautiful ending to a strong story. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜
Brianne lost her husband and infant son to an ambush on castle Dunbar. Her father betrothed her to another right away. Escorted to her betrothed by the brother. Her betrothed Dermid would become laird one day. He was a rough. The brother Gavin tried to protect her. When both brothers had to go to protect others Dermid was killed. Gavin then was able to marry Brianne. Before that could happen she had to tell him that she was with child from her first husband before he was killed and she was protecting a Druid stone that had to go to the son that was to have. A seer told her it was a boy, Gavin and she had a happy marriage.
I enjoyed the story, very emotional in the beginning, building into mysterious. However I wish the POV's were separated a bit more. I had a confusing time deciphering who was saying what. Other than that, the emotions that Gavin felt for Brianne were exactly what she needed during a difficult adjustment.
What a great book. Brianne has a terrible start. And has to go through some very rough times. But Gavin is a true hero. And Brianne second chance at everlasting love. I highly recommend this book !!!
Decent story, though there were quite a few misspellings and other oddities that kind of distracted from the flow. (Distain/disdain, vile/vial, palver/palaver).
This is a good Highland romance story. Here are some of the reasons it was not a great Highland romance.
I didn't like any of the characters aside from Teiran, Gavin, Colin, Alice and Caledonia. I should have been more sympathetic to Brianne, but I just couldn't pull it off.
I never did learn what year it was. I need to know that to settle properly into the story.
The "surprise" wasn't surprising because I had figured it out early on. It was a great plot twist; it was just too transparent.
The abusive bad guys were a little too over the top. Although it is not expected that medieval men would have any regard or respect for women, I don't see that they would go out of their way to brutalize them if they didn't put themselves in harm's way.
I certainly don't think this is a bad book. I liked the story. However, 92 errors are just too many. By that I mean using vile for vial; distain for disdain; passed for past; discrete for discreet; sorted for sordid; smithy for smith (the smithy is the shop); rouge for rogue; beaconing for beckoning, etc. A dictionary can be a girl's best friend.
This story is very fast paced. The general conensus in the goodreads reviews is that an overwhelming number of readers loved it. While It doesn't spend a lot of time in setting up the "historical" part of the setting (1600 Scotland Highlands) the author is very good at presenting the characters and weaving a tense plot, within the time and setting.
There is sexually explicit language and scenes so for those that prefer a more gentle, classic or sweet romantic variety I can not recommend this book for you.
The audiobook version is narrated by Angela Dawe. She has a pretty distinct style and her cadence is unique. It took me a minute to get used to, but by the end, i concluded she definately added to the story.
This story is about a women who lost her family to a dark man who turns out to be her father. Her father wanted something that he thought would give him power. Brianne lie to her father that she didn't have the stone to keep it6 safe. She found love with the enemy of her clan but to ful in love with the second son. All the trial she went though to get to love. I give this story a four star rating because this is very good story to read and to cry.
This was a book full of grief, love, and intrigue. This book was well written and I liked the characters immediately. The author did a fabulous job telling Gavin and Brianne's story. I hope Colin will have his own book. I recommend this book and her other Highlander Historical Romance books.
This is an impressive book! It takes the reader deep into the lives, traditions and legends of the Scottish Highlands. It is eye opening, as it reveals the rigours of living in medieval Scottland.
I really enjoyed reading this historical romance. It is so well written, had it not been listed as fiction, I would have taken it for truth.
Swift moving story if somewhat predictable. Dishonorable read with its high and low points. Makes you want to go find your own highlander, but then you consider the time in history and realize women really had little worth in the eyes of the law. As a woman you had to make your way using your wits and intelligence even if it wasn't recognized.
