I’ve been lying for years. Hiding behind the bigoted jerks I called friends so that people wouldn’t look too closely and see the real Liam behind the façade. Lying to hold on to my life and the family that I love. Hurting others to protect myself. Hating the man staring back at me in the mirror. Convincing myself there was no other way. Promising myself I’d never cross that line.
Until the day I did. And nearly ruined a man’s life.
I screwed up big time. It doesn’t matter that I’ve tried to make things right. I still played my part, and sorry doesn’t cut it. My teammates won’t speak to me, my game is tanking, and my rugby career is hanging by a thread. Most people can barely stand to even look at me.
Except Nolly Carter. Retired All Black captain and rugby legend. A man I’ve admired for years and not just for his ball skills. He’s hotter than hell, owns the bar where I’m currently spending far too much time and money, and is very definitely straight.
Or so I’d thought. Until now.
But Nolly has no time for my self-pity. He challenges me to step up and fight for the sport I love. For a life and a love on my own terms. Maybe even find a way to live with what I’ve done and earn some kind of redemption. The more time I spend with Nolly, the more I question everything I thought I knew about who I am and what I want.
Could it really be that simple to take back my life?
Not a chance in hell.
But nothing worth having is ever easy, and a future with Nolly Carter might just be worth the fight.
