“Yes, love, I intended on ruining you for anyone else, but in the process, I ruined us all.”
When I read trilogies, I often like the second book the best, and this series was no exception. The plot ramped up- secrets were divulged, twists came out of nowhere, a lot of questions were answered, and even more were raised. Throughout all the suspense, though, the smut scale was still a full TEN. I didn't think things could get hotter than they did in book one, but Jesus... I was very, very wrong. As the relationship between all three men and Elaine deepened, so did their commitment to her... and, for some, each other.
That being said... for me, the mystery & intrigue surrounding Xavier hasn't dissipated in the slightest. Every time Elaine stood up to him, I cheered her along. She definitely isn't a doormat, so since he used to be a psychologist, I find it exceedingly suspicious that he always knows exactly what to say to cause her to forgive him. He talks a lot, with sweeping declarations, and that never sits well with me if a person's actions insinuate otherwise. Even if he's telling the truth and truly does love her as much as he claims he does, I still find him to be very manipulative. And honestly, that remaining small, niggling doubt towards our "hero" is what has kept me so fascinated with this story. The author did an excellent job creating the character Dr. Xavier Vincent- he's sexy, possessive, manipulative, brilliant, secretive, and obsessive.
I can't wait until the conclusion!!!
"I fall harder with every word, and I’m terrified that I will sacrifice every part of my identity and have nothing in the end to show for my effort.”
