Key learnings: Life of Mahatma Gandhi and the principle of nonviolent resistance also known as Satyagraha
-
Gandhi by Unto Tähtinen tells the life story of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi “Mahatma Gandhi”.
It was interesting to read about India’s Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. For example, I hadn’t known before that he studied law in London or that he then spent 21 years in South Africa.
In the book, Tähtinen describes the stages of Gandhi’s life. After that, he discusses Gandhi’s religion, and then he goes through important themes and ideas central to Gandhi, such as what truth and morality meant to him, and how they manifested in his life.
Gandhi is also the developer of Satyagraha, the principle of nonviolent resistance, which is, of course, discussed in detail in the book. The book examines Gandhi’s nonviolent struggle to promote India’s causes and independence, as well as the aforementioned ideas and philosophies that are important to understand in order to better grasp Satyagraha and the concepts related to it.
