福爾摩斯外傳 【華生怎麼學把戲】
外傳故事《華生怎麼學把戲（How Watson Learned the Trick）》是柯南‧道爾為了倫敦展出的袖珍展覽所寫。一九二四年倫敦展出了一座為瑪麗王后建造的迷你玩具屋。屋內的圖書室珍藏的全是英國當時最偉大作家的袖珍小說。

柯南‧道爾也在此玩具屋內放了一本書，便是這部不到千字的《華生怎麼學把戲》。展覽結束之後，一般大眾並無緣閱讀這篇出自柯南‧道爾之手的外傳，當然也並未收錄於福爾摩斯全集中。一直到一九五一年時才有雜誌刊登了這篇外傳的全文。

About the author

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.
