The Rys Chronicles #2

The Goddess Queen

Rate this book
The Rys Chronicles continue as Shan’s rebellion grows. Queen Onja, hoping to kill Shan before he can lead his armies against her stronghold, sends her Kezanada agents to hunt him with enchanted weapons. Onja also begins to teach another rys in the ways of battle magic to aid her in the coming war. Dreibrand Veta, now Shan’s general, works hard to prepare their armies for the invasion of the rys homeland. Miranda struggles to be patient while her children remain hostage in Onja’s household, and she dedicates herself to Shan and his rebellion even when it means breaking the strict patriarchal traditions of the larger culture. Once the armies begin to march, everyone must endure the many horrors of war. Tempers fray and ambitions flare as the costs of attacking Onja mount. But Shan stomachs his guilt over inspiring such conflict and finally challenges Onja in a duel of magic. To defend her throne, Onja summons her magic secrets that have been buried since ancient times.

I write heroes with flaws with the heroines they need. Magic, epic landscapes, and the temptations of power fill my novels.

So I start reading this book as a followup to the first book (Union of Renegades). After the first book I thought I might get disappointed since I loved the first, but I could not have been more wrong. Tracy picks your imagination right up where she had left you and brings you deeper into her rabbits hole. I have to admit that after this I can not and I really mean can not wait to read the other two in the series. Matter of fact I am starting on the third (Judgment Rising) as I post this. Tracy if the future works are as good as these two I will be a fan for life and I hope everyone that reads my blog tells everyone they know to read your books. This series is right up there in my opinion (for what it is worth) with Piers Anthony. Thanks for the ride and I can not wait to continue.

The first book was great, this book was fantastic. The 1st half was one of the best fantasy books I've read, and then 2nd half good. Towards the end, I was worried that I might not like where the story arc would go for the 3rd book -- but the in the end the 'future' turned in a way I didn't expect, leading me to look forward to starting the 3rd book!

A wonderful sequel to the first book. Again, I had a wonderful time reading this well past my usual bedtime.

This pits tyranny against benevolence. A magical race and a human (non-magical) race, yet the two races eventually work together to overthrow the tyrant.

The characters are well developed and interesting.

Another truly amazing adventure from an remarkable author. Following on the adventure with characters I've come to know and love, in this series. Some twists and turns, some sad and happy moments. A series that delivers entertainment with every book. Highly recommended.

I loved this story. There is a lot of action, a little romance and a little comedy, and a lot of tragedy. There is also wonderful triumph and I was engrossed all the way through this book.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first one. The author's evolution from one book to another is really obvious.
