To the victors go the spoils, and Shan and Dreibrand have flourished for five years as the leaders of their respective kingdoms. Allied by friendship, they greet the future with excitement and grandiose plans. Dreibrand counts on his relationship with Shan to protect him from the encroaching Atrophane Empire as he carefully avoids direct confrontation with his former countrymen, now under the undisputed leadership of his old rival Sandin Promentro. But a greater malice than imperial ambition threatens the new lords of the Wilderness. The long dead civilization of Nufal, where Dreibrand and Miranda nurture their fledgling kingdom, has not forgotten the brutal genocide of its ancient war with the rys. The ghosts of Nufal may have been extinguished but their avengers remain. The inheritors of Onja's wealth and lands will now battle the nightmare of their judgment rising.
Books II and III showed hints that Tracy could fill the same kinds of shoes that George RR Martin fills. Tracy has become a master in her own right. At times, the characters are immature and irrational enough that it irks me. However, even this detraction is not without merit, because it adds humanness to the characters which might be hard to add in another way. Although Tracy has what are primarily minor flaws as an author, she also has exquisite diction, resulting in some of the best poetic prose ever written. This level of diction is something that George RR Martin does not have (though he too has scattered poetic lines).
I was so excited by the end of this book, I went straight on to the next one in this amazing series.
Love this author, Tracy Falbe is up there with the top authors for me, such as R Hobb and A Rice.
If you love a book where you get to know your characters, and you're on the edge of your seat worrying for them, like they were your own children, then this adventure is for you. Magic, fantasy, love and politics, this series has it all.
Tracy's storytelling flows easily. Her plots twist and turn, her goodies kick ass and you will boo the baddies (that's putting it in simple terms.) Books for young and old alike.
So if you have not heard of Tracy Falbe or Brave Luck or The Rys Chronicles then I ask for you to move the rock and come on out into the sunlight. This is the best yet of the four part series and I am absolutely drooling over the fourth one as I type. I can not decide whether to read or type this. Tracy is an amazing author and deserves to sell millions and millions of copies of this series. So get to it and start buying because everyone needs a good story to read.
I thought this book was great! Again another awesome addition to the series. This book, like the first one, is a little slow, but not boring, when the action picks up it really picks up. Another cliffhanger ending which is just damn frustrating! I just want to know what happens, but now I'll have to wait.
