Night Of Nyx gives us a little more insight into who Zorin is. We also get to see a little more of the past that surrounds the House of Ravens. Zorin is a nephilim who's borne a difficult life. The secrets he holds weigh heavily on his mind and soul. Deep inside, he often wishes he could change the way things were. Sadly, what is done, is done, and there's nothing he can do about it.

The duo behind Karpov-Kinrade have written a beautiful, yet bittersweet story, where we get to see the world through Zorin's eyes. While he's not quite happy about the fact that Scarlett is now a nephilim, he's willing to work with her in getting things done. Granted, things don't always go the way they should.

While this book is short, it does pack a punch. We get to see how Zorin and Scarlett deal with the chaos that surrounds them. We also see how they interact with the rest of their team and friends as time goes by. We're also given further glimpses to the reasons behind Varian's doing what he does to bring Nightfall down. Karpov-Kinrade continue to set the stage for what truly promises to be a great series. I do wonder if Zorin and Scarlett will ever be able to find exactly what they're looking for. Only time, and future books, will tell. So can't wait!

Review for updated version: While there were very minimal (if any?) changes in this, it reads a totally different way than it did before, after reading the ending of the new House of Ravens. Much more complicated interactions with more hidden meaning between some of the Dark Templers. (Original review follows)
This is a great companion piece to the Nightfall series; it gives me more of a sense of Zorin's age, and motivations, Personally I would recommend reading this after House of Ravens. I really feel for him about Danika; both in a good way, and a bad way. (Spoilers!!)

(Spoilers below)
that he gets to spend more time with her,
And that he loses her, twice.

Danika appearing to Zorin, in the present, shows more about his motivations/inner drive(s).

Boring. Really no new information

I feel like I just wasted time. I know that this was going to be somewhat repetitive but it seemed very like the book I just finished. There were few things I gleaned from this. I hope the next novella isn't the same

I have been intrigued by Zorin from the very first moment he appeared in this series, and I have always wondered about his motivation for saving Scarlett and why he was so eager to help her in the battle against the Orders. Even though most of my questions were answered in House of Ravens, it was great to be privy to Zorin's thoughts and feelings, and my heart really broke for him as he relived his past. Now that I've seen behind the intimidating exterior that Zorin displays so well, my belief that his intentions are good, have been cemented. I also sense the stirring of a romance between Zorin and Nightfall, and I'm eager to see if it will lead to anything substantial.

I love when authors create companion novellas such as this one, giving readers insight into other characters' actions and thoughts during a story that they're already familiar with. Especially when they're given the opportunity to better understand the villain, so it was interesting to see things from Varian's POV as well. Overall, this was an exciting short read that only has me loving this fantastic series all the more.

As much as I loved the first two books of this series, this short story was ultimately a disappointment. It's essentially a retelling of the events of book 2 from alternate viewpoints. While there are a few scenes that give us additional insight into a couple of the characters, the majority of the story is a very literal retelling of the previous book, by which I mean it's line by line the same. Since I had just finished the previous book the day before, this was redundant and Boring (note the capital B).

In the end, I would just say that I didn't get enough extra from this short story to make it worth the read. But I like the overall world and larger story enough to give it three stars anyway.

A MUST READ for any fan of this series! And if you have not yet started the series...well, what are you waiting for?!?!

As a fan of this series, I shout, "Thank God!" There are many explanations and clarifying character details and situations/events described from other points of view that give much needed and helpful points of information!

This may have only been a novella but it packs a heavy punch with information all while bringing beauty and showing the strength & fight spirit of a few characters.

I love this book and it makes me all the more excited for the next one! Read on, my friends, read on!

I'm in Novella heaven with Night of Nyx from Karpov Kinrade! This is an in depth look at our heroine Scarlett Night's/Nightfalls savoir as well as mentor, Zorin/Nyx! This shorter story piece fits like a puzzle with the contents of House of Ravens but from the perspective of Zorin. Giving you tantalizing hint's at more mystery and secrets that will undoubtedly take readers for a wild ride in the upcoming books in this series! I know I'm hooked and can't wait for what's to come next!

I love Zorin! This may be short but it gives a lot of information, filling in some missing pieces and gaps that may have not flowed within the stories themselves. The insight is fantastic and brings you more in tune with a truly great character!

"Let those stories be told."
This story takes place in a scene from House of Ravens and it's from Zorin's point of view. It shows the motives behind his actions, part of his past and his feelings towards Scarlett and their cause.
Also part of the story gives insight into Varian's mind.

Even though the book should be about Zorin, it didn't feel like it. Part of it was entirely the same as in HoR, maybe a line more to see what Zorin thinks, but it doesn't reveal anything new about him. At least not something that's significant for the story.
The parts about Varian were more interesting and that's why I'd recommend reading it.

What I liked: This novella offered new perspectives to the series, as well as who Zorin is and why he is the way he is. It also added new perspective to Varian, and what his true motives are. Definitely interesting and did help clarify certain plot points to the overall story.

What I didn't like: There were good chunks taken from House of Ravens, and only some minor commentary added to the plot. I'd say only about 60% was new content, and some of it was sprinkled in with the old content.

Wonderful writing duo

I love the writing style of these authors. They use few words to create bigger than life descriptions. Straight and clean writing that's crisp and enthralling. The novellas read as engrossing as the novels and I can't get enough.

Interesting but not worth buying.

There were some new parts to this story but a significant portion of it was a rehash of parts of the second novel. I almost regret spending the money for it.

Confused Reader

Most of this book is repeat of things that happened in other books. There were a few things about Zorin that became clear and help you to understand a few things. Not sure what’s next, it’s says Song of Kia, but that was the book before this one.

Great Novella

This was insightful. It had views of King Varian and Zorian. It was awesome to see their part in the battles they fought and how much Danika plays a part in Zorian

Parts of it were also in the previous book, just a small amount of the plot was new. It did paint a background of Zorin, but I still am excited to read next one.

Yes and No

Zorin's view adds some depth to the story. Describes some character's insights but really doesn't seem too needed. But what do I know. Still good.

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Nightfall is back trying to save the world and everyone in it no matter what it cost her or if she loses her life she is determined to save every living soul. But this time we get to see things from Nyx’s pov and learn more about who he is and where he came from and why he has the attitude that he does. You learn why he has a chip on his shoulder. When you read his story you can’t help but to like him and know that he is not such a bad person and that he actually has a heart of gold.

Nyx is back to help Nightfall to learn and help her to know what she needs to save the world from all the evil. Nightfall and Nyx both try to make everyone think that they are bada** but they are not. But they can give you a run for your money though.

Nightfall wants to be the best fighter now and to know what all she needs to know to save all the people now and she would like Nyx to tell her what she wants to know now. But Nyx has his own way of teaching her. He wants her to figure things out on her own so that she will know them and never forget them again. If she figures out what she needs to do all on her own then she will be so much better. She will be a better and stronger superhero. Nightfall has to learn patience if she is going to beat her enemy.

I loved reading things from Nyx’s pov and getting inside his head and heart to find that he just maybe a great big ole’ teddy bear. Night of Nyx was a great in between story to read until we wait for the next book in the series. Hopefully it will tide us over until the next one. I can’t wait to read more about Nyx, Nightfall, and Scarlett. I can’t wait to read more about their adventures and watch Nightfall learn and grow to mature.

While this story is a short novella taking place during some of the events of House Of Ravens I think it is a can't miss in the series. It gives us a secondary POV from Zorin that I think is much needed. We see his wedding that is only hinted about in House Of Ravens, but we also see his journey from being on his own to meeting up with Scarlett/Nightfall.

We also get the story of exactly what happened between Nyx and King Varian which I think is pretty important. Even though this is all dealt with in House Of Ravens up to a point it's extremely nice to see all of these events from some one who has been there from the beginning such as Zorin.

We also get a smidge of new information from this novella which is nice (just in case you guys who are thinking this is a throwaway novella written just to bring in more money there is some New information that was not in the 2 previously released full length novels.) I hate the way people automatically disregard books from a alternate POV just because they contain most of the same information from a previously released story. Yes, some of it is the same. But everybody does not experience the exact same event in the exact same way. And there is always some New nugget of information to be gleaned. So for me this novella holds the same weight as the other full length novels. I think Zorin is one of my favorite characters in the series and he definitely deserves a story told from his POV. He has a lot to add to the mythology of the Nightfall Chronicles. and for me it's good to see him have his moment in the spotlight. The ending of This novella will leave you wanting the next installment immediately so be warned on that One!

*** NOTE: I received an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an HONEST review. ***

Night of Nyx is the first novella in the Nightfall Chronicles. The events in the novella take place during those of the first half of House of Ravens. It's mainly told via Zorin's point of view, however some chapters are from Varian's point of view. Rather than seem redundant, Night of Nyx helps readers understand Zorin's character more. Varian's motives also seem a lot clearer, transforming his role significantly from that of the villian we saw him as in House of Ravens to that of a misunderstood hero.

Very little is left to desire in this novella. The story is fast-paced, informative, and an appropriate length for the amount of content being delivered.

I'd recommend Night of Nyx to fans of the Nightfall Chronicles and fans of science fiction, adventure, fantasy, and dystopian stories. It is appropriate for young teens, but does contain some graphic descriptions of violence.

Overall, I loved this glimpse into Zorin's soul. His actions and reactions make so much more sense to me now. He's much more likeable a character than I had imagined. Varian's character was the most changed for me, however. I couldn't help seeing the bad guy he made himself out to be, but now I know why for the most part, and that has truly reshaped him. I'm truly pleased with this novella and I can't wait for the next book.

Night of Nyx is 2.5 in The Nightfall Chronicles series. It is a short story and takes place during House of Ravens but from Andriy Zorin’s pov.

This short story offers plenty of action allowing us to experience a fight through the eyes of a true warrior.

We also learn more of Zorin’s past which so far has been kept a secret from us. Love and heartbreak is a recurring feature in his long life. It certainly gives you a deeper connection to him and a will for things to become better.

While I enjoyed this story there were moments of repetitiveness. Certain scenes and conversations were repeated pretty much word for word from House of Ravens and I found myself wanting to skim over those parts so I could get to the new material.

The parts of the story I enjoyed the most were the few moments of narrative from the pov of Varian. Throughout House of Ravens I wanted to learn more of him. He is a very clever man and his mind has always been a puzzle I’ve wanted to piece together and his moments of narrative in Night of Nyx allowed me to start that puzzle.

Night of Nyx is a great fit in The Nightfall Chronicles series, allowing the reader to experience this exciting world through the eyes of some of our favourite characters.

This book was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review.

Mysteries Of His Past Revealed

This series must be read in order. The first book is Court Of Nightfall. The second book is House Of Ravens. This is the third book. I can't wait to read Song Of Kai!

Zorin is full of secrets he must keep in order to continue. If everyone truly knew who he was... His past... They would be likely to turn on him. Or so he feels. Will he repeat the mistakes of the past? Or has he learned his lesson? Is Scarlett another woman he will fail as he failed Danika so long ago? What exactly does he feel for her?

This story is set throughout the last book House Of Ravens and tells the events from Zorin's point of view. It shows what he was up to when not in Scarlett's presence and enlightens us to some of his motivations. It is an amazing addition to the series and I really enjoyed it :)

***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy futuristic post postapocalyptal sci-fi paranormal fantasy action adventure mysteries full of intrigue, thrills, epic struggles and a dash of maybe romance and quite a bit of tragedy set in Dystopian societies rotten to the core :)

This was a nice addition to the Nightfall Chronicles but it didn't really seem necessary. A few things were interesting more about Varidian than Nyx, honestly. And I feel that those parts could have been better suited for the actual novel of book 2 itself. I don't think it should have been included in a small novella. I'm glad that it was included at the end of book 2 though. I wasn't planning on purchasing it on my kindle since I have the first 2 books in paperback. If I start a series in one format, I like to keep purchasing it that way for the whole series. So I'm hoping that the other novella will be included with book 3 so that I can read it. Like I said, it was a nice addition, but most of it could have been just included in book 2. Most of this was a summary of what happened from Zorin's point of view from when Nightfall visited him through the book and a few chapters were from Varian's point of view (i know I spelt his name two different ways. Can't remember how it's spelt and too lazy to look it up.)

*4 Stars*

I have quickly fallen in love with Scarlett/Nightfall and and the rest of the characters in the two previous books. I was quite excited to see some of the story from Zorin's point of view.

Zorin is like a mysterious onion, once you think you're starting to figure him out you pull back another layer and must start all over again. I really enjoyed getting to peel more of those layers away with Night of Nyx. The previous books had eluded to a past love, we finally get to learn more about that relationship, as well as his past relationship with Carter.

The one thing that fell a bit flat for me was the parallel storyline to some of the event of the previous books. I wish that we could have experience a bit more of the "present" with Zorin, Nightfall, and the rest of the gang.

Overall, it was a fabulous book... but what can you expect when it comes from Karpov Kinrade? I can't wait to get my greedy little hands on the next book of the series.

I was given an ARC of the book by the author for an honest review.

It was refreshing to have a book that offered a view into Zorin's mind throughout parts of the story rather that Scarlett's, as well as know a little bit more about his past and his feelings. I did wish for this book to be longer in regards to his point of view in other books, but since this novella is a bridge between the second and third book I understood the limited content.

I was a little disappointed that the book didn't featured much commentary or internal monologue from Zorin as I expected since there was a lot of scene repetition from the previous book, but I appreciated the little bits that were given, specially the last scenes that really warmed me more toward him than previous books were his character, although important, is mainly as support. (and I really wanted his characters to be more prominent)

Overall, It was a nice little peek into Zorin's mind and his past, but definitely could have been included in one of the books rather than having a novella just to himself.

Night of Nyx is (book 2.5) is the first novella in the Nightfall Chronicles and is truly a wonderful companion to the series. The book may be short in pages but it definitely doesn't fall short in content. The book shares intimate thoughts and feelings narrated from the point of view of Zorin and King Varian, respectively. They each relived their past and exploited life-changing events that permanently altered their frame of mind and consequently led them to their current paths. There were many “A-ha!” and “Ooohhhhh, I get it now” moments as I read this book. It allowed me to build a rapport with both characters and understand their actions and behaviors better. This novella commendably illustrated their strengths, weaknesses, and resilience – providing clarity for who they have each become…a sense of sadness, grief, and anger spawned into motivation and sustenance for each of the lives they have chosen.
