Don't be short sight, but long-sighted.
Don't go with the flow, defeat your opponents by a surprise move.

"Oda Nobunaga", serialized in 1954, is a biographical novel. It tells the story of Oda Nobunaga's magnificent life from unifying Owari to re-establishing generals and controlling Gyeonggi, and finally being betrayed by generals at the peak of his career and dreaming of Innouji Temple.

Yamaoka Shohachi was born in Kode Town, Niigata Prefecture, Japan in 1907 and died in 1978. He left home at the age of 14 and started earning a living independently. During World War II, he wrote field reports, war literature, and other propaganda materials for the Japanese army. These works were highly praised by the Japanese military and won many awards. Representative works: "Oda Nobunaga", "Toyotomi Hideyoshi", "Tokugawa Ieyasu", etc.

Oda Nobunaga was born in 1534 in Nagoya City (present-day Owarina Furuno Castle), Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and died in 1582. He, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu were also called "Three Masters of the Warring States Period in Japan" by later generations. In 1551, Oda Nobunaga died and Oda Nobunaga, the eldest son, succeeded to the throne. In 1559, through fierce political struggles, Oda Nobunaga established control over the entire Owari country. In 1560, Imagawa Yoshimoto gathered 20,000 to 25,000 troops to attack Owari himself.

Oda Nobunaga led 4,000 troops into battle and attacked Imagawa Yoshimoto in Tokazama. Imagawa Yoshimoto died in battle and the Imagawa army was defeated. In 1567, Emperor Mashincho officially awarded Oda Nobunaga as an "unparalleled general" and praised him. In 1581, Oda Nobunaga's power reached its heyday. In 1582, Oda Nobunaga stayed at Honno-Ji Temple, but Mitsuhide Aichi who was sent to assist Toyotomi Hideyoshi suddenly appeared in Kyoto and launched an attack on Honno-Ji Temple. The Japanese Warring States Period (1467-1600 or 1615) generally refers to the period of history from the late Muromachi Shogunate to the Azuchi-Momoyama period. In the first year of Yingren (1467), the Yingren Rebellion broke out, and each guardian chose their side to support each other, forming a big melee between the Allied Forces of the Eastern Hosokawa and the Allied Forces of the Western Army. In 1600, Tokugawa Ieyasu led his army to confront Toyotomi generals, and the main forces of the two armies finally fought in the Omi area (historically known as the Sekihara Battle).

In 1615, Ieyasu Tokugawa once again sent troops to defeat Osaka Castle. Yamaoka Shohachi’s "Oda Nobunaga" is a historical novel. The basic plot follows history, but in terms of details, there are inevitably many places where the author can use his imagination freely, which is similar to "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms". Historical novels or romances are naturally more interesting to read than official history, but this type of work often reveals the author’s subjective likes and dislikes between the lines, explicitly or implicitly, and novels inevitably have to exaggerate feelings and atmosphere. It is easy to lose objectivity.

The first person I think of to compare with Oda Nobunaga is Cao Cao. Both Oda Nobunaga and Cao Cao are outstanding military strategists and statesmen, with great talents and ambitions in the world. And the political strategies adopted are quite similar.

Oda Nobunaga takes King Jin (the emperor) as his priority. When he was a boy, he made a wish to end this troubled world before the age of fifty (at the age of 49). He was a little bohemian. Although he was Owari's heir, he did not adhere to ritual laws. , Known as the big fool of Owari by everyone, this is also one of the reasons why the elders strongly opposed letting him, the eldest son, inherit the position of head of the house. In his life, Nobunaga Rongma saw that his lifelong wish to unify Japan and end the troubled world was about to be fulfilled, but he died under his confidant. Although Aichi Mitsuhide killed Nobunaga, he was by no means a person capable of unifying Japan, and Nobunaga’s sons did not. This ability, the last heir to his legacy is Tokugawa Ieyasu, his childhood playmate, is amazing.

Oda Nobunaga, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi are collectively known as the "Three Masters of the Warring States Period." I actually love the book. And I adore Sohachi Yamaoka for making this easy to understand. His choice of words is good.
It feels like I'm reading a enjoyable history book.
Sohachi do a good job decribing Oda Nobunaga. The person we called Demon King.

Well, this first book tells you the young life of Oda Nobunaga, a naughty boy who love playing weird tricks. But behind that he hides all the secret plan inside him.

Di buku ini juga kita dijelaskan awal mula nya dia bertemu dengan Noh... karakter yang pasti sudah kita kenal kalo kita cukup dekat dengan sejarah jepang. Keseluruhan dari isi buku ini adalah awal mula terbentuknya Oda Nobunaga, dimana konfliknya berfokus pada ketidaksetujuan penduduk pada Nobunaga yang dijadikan kepala klan.

Great book... nice words to open Nobunaga's word... hanya saja ada beberapa bagian yang kurang kumengerti karena ceritanya yang cukup cepat meloncat. So I'm kinda confused to keep up with Nobunaga's age.
But overall... its good

New review: Preserved the rating because I liked it well enough as a new reader. As a more-informed, more seasoned reader, this is just "a product of its time". I still like how it tries to be all historically accurate by referring to people by their titles and not their name, in accordance to correct samurai etiquette of the time. Everything else, not so much.

1. Hebat. Jarang-jarang lihat fiksi sejarah Jepang yang mana penamaannya akurat. Sejauh yang saya pelajari, orang Jepang jaman dulu itu menyebut orang bukan dengan namanya, tapi gelarnya. Contoh: Hayashi Hidesada yang bergelar Sado-no-Kami dipanggil dengan sebutan Tuan Sado.

2. Pertemanan dengan Tokugawa Ieyasu ya... Itu sebenearnya sangat diragukan kebenarannya, tapi yah... buat bumbu cerita boleh lah...

3. Kisah cinta dengan Noh? Aduh... Karena ini buku kuno (pertama terbit tahun 1987) maklum deh, karena pada jaman itu kisah cinta antara Nobunaga dan istrinya sangat populer, bahkan sampai ada shoujo manga-nya. Tapi secara pribadi saya kurang suka. Justru saya lebih tertarik dengan selirnya, Ikoma Kitsuno, yang katanya melahirkan anak pertama Nobunaga.

4. Entah bahasa aslinya bagaimana, tapi ada satu bagian dimana Tokichiro kesannya seperti sedang menyatakan cinta pada Nobunaga. Mungkin maksudnya mau memuji-muji jang berlebihan, tapi kok pilihan katanya aneh sekali. Apalagi karena jaman itu hubungan cinta sesama laki-laki itu hal yang wajar, jadi ini konotasinya... agak...

5. Bahasanya garing sekali. Hampir seperti tanpa emosi. Hampir mirip dengan tata bahasa novel Taiko. Alhasil, ceritanya jadi seperti sedang membaca buku sejarah, tapi ada selingan dialognya. Dan karena emang aku sudah tahu banyak soal Nobunaga, jadi rasanya kurang seru.

Nobunaga Oda is one of the most eccentric characters I know, and that is what makes him interesting. I first knew him from a game called Warriors Orochi. In the game, he is named the Demon King, and his arrogant and clever remarks intrigue me. Wanting to know more about his relationship with Lady Noh (his wife, who's in the game is equally arrogant and clever) is what drove me to buy this book. Although I find many typos in the book, overall I enjoy reading it.

Throughout the book I am constantly impressed by Nobunaga's antics, until near the end...
Because Nobunaga is such a different personality, I foolishly thought he would be different in his marriage life as well. Of course I understand completely that during that time, it was not uncommon for a leader to have more than one wife. I believed that Nobunaga and Lady Noh were a perfect couple that he didn't need another wife. But I was wrong... after being married for 6 years, Lady Noh hadn't given a child (more importantly, a successor to Oda Clan) to Nobunaga, so he decided to take three concubines. Three! Oh, how it tore my heart! I feel really sorry for Lady Noh--despite her cool response to this, deep inside her heart, she's wounded and truly sad.

At the end of the book, I don't feel bad for Nobunaga when his enemies were planning to assassinate him on August 20th (hey, it's my birthday!). He'd get what he deserved.

In the meantime, I'm hoping Mitsuhide Akechi (Lady Noh's cousin) will appear in the second book. In the game, he is Nobunaga's right hand. He's calm and totally handsome!

emang nebak pikiran nobunaga itu susah,
untung aja temen2nya pada ngerti.

lumayan bagus dikisahkan tentang kehidupan nobunaga,
tapi kayak terlalu cepet, dan pikiran nobunaga yang bikin penasaran itu juga gak terlalu banyak membantu buat memahami kisah selanjutnya.

nice for killing time,
ada perbedaan-perbedaan yang mungkin kalo udah baca buku lain yang sejenisnya bakal bilang. "kok gini yah, kok gitu, kan dibuku ini gini gitu" apalah... rada aneh.

malah yang bikin penasaran itu malah, istri pertamanya..
hell.. dibikin kisah romantis bakal keren inih..
dikit banget diceritain.. padahal saya kan pengennya lebih,,, haha

Buku dengan kaver yang sangat menarik ini membuatku tertarik untuk membelinya, sebelumnya gak pernah tahu tentang tokoh ini.

Ketika mulai baca, langsung gak bisa berenti karena perilaku Oda yang juga aneh, dan gaya bahasanya yang menarik. Baru baca separo, saya jadi orang gagah karena hanyut pada karakter oda yang pede abis.

Sayang buku ini terjemahan dari bahasa Jepang, kalo dari bahasa Inggris, langsung saya beli n baca lanjutannya.

He's like Luffy, Naruto, Goku, or any eccentric shonen manga protagonist, except he's a real person. A seemingly stupid boy who likes to break pointless norms, and having a dream, too huge that people would laugh at him.

I rarely get attached to a hisfic character, but this one surely is an exception.

Meskipun aku rada pusing baca tentang perang-perangan apalagi nama-namanya itu loh.. tapi tetep seru dan bikin penasaran buat diikutin.

Gak sabar pengen beli buku keduanya.
