Dr. Chris McMullen has over 20 years of experience teaching university physics in California, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana. Dr. McMullen is also an author of math and science books. Whether in the classroom or as a writer, Dr. McMullen loves sharing knowledge and the art of motivating and engaging students.

Chris McMullen earned his Ph.D. in phenomenological high-energy physics (particle physics) from Oklahoma State University in 2002. Originally from California, Dr. McMullen earned his Master's degree from California State University, Northridge, where his thesis was in the field of electron spin resonance.

Dr. McMullen is well-known for:
• engaging students in challenging ideas through creativity
• breaking difficult problems down into manageable steps
• providing clear and convincing explanations to subtle issues
• his mastery of physics and strong background in mathematics
• helping students become more fluent in practical math skills

As a physics teacher, Dr. McMullen observed that many students lack fluency in fundamental math skills. In an effort to help students of all ages and levels master basic math skills, he published a series of math workbooks on arithmetic, fractions, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus called the Improve Your Math Fluency Series. Dr. McMullen has also published a variety of science books, including introductions to basic astronomy and chemistry concepts in addition to physics workbooks.

Dr. McMullen is very passionate about teaching. Many students and observers have been impressed with the transformation that occurs when he walks into the classroom, and the interactive engaged discussions that he leads during class time. Dr. McMullen is well-known for drawing monkeys and using them in his physics examples and problems, using his creativity to inspire students. A stressed-out student is likely to be told to throw some bananas at monkeys, smile, and think happy physics thoughts.

Dr. McMullen first published The Visual Guide to Extra Dimensions, Volumes 1 and 2, to share his passion for the geometry and physics of the fourth dimension. Dr. McMullen has coauthored a half-dozen articles on current and future collider searches for large extra dimensions.

In addition to writing and teaching, Dr. McMullen enjoys Scrabble, golf, and chess.

Book received courtesy of Goodreads.com Giveaway

I love the depth and scope of the patterns in this book. They start from very basic ABAB patters and go all the way through Fibonacci Inspired to Algebraic. Each puzzle is accompanied by very detailed answers that are helpful to all levels of mathematical ability. I'm seeing this as being used over a huge span of math and logic teachers. Once again, Dr. McMullen's work is very impressive

So happy to have won this in a Goodreads Giveaway. Since my daughters were young, I have encouraged them in math and science because women often drop out of these subjects. This book gives me the opportunity to further excite them about math--and it did! Thank you!

I liked that this book progresses in complexity and the large print makes it easy to read for a variety of ages. My spouse and I did a few of these on our own, then introduced the problems to the kids, Each of us enjoyed the challenge and figuring out the puzzles and patterns.

My one daughter has post-concussive syndrome and this book is really great at providing a variety of progressive challenges in pattern recognition, visual discrimination (very challenging for her), analytical skills, logic and reasoning, analogies (something her cognitive rehab specialist told us to work on more), and geometry (which she is currently studying in school). We can do these "games" a few at a time while waiting around, such as in lines or at a family restaurant. There is plenty of space to write directly in the book. It really is fun for middle schoolers to older adults. Makes me want to check out other books by this author.

thanks to goodreads first reads and the author for giving me this chance to try this book out.I found the puzzles amazing and challenging to say the least.I found myself trying some of the puzzles and am delighted to say that this will be a book i can go back often to refresh my mind and skills in the thinking and reasoning part of my brain.
I feel that this book should be a book that is given in the schools and taught early on.we are so demanding of the technology age that we forget the basics and what our mind really needs.I think adults would love this book and hope that everyone has a chance to read and try some of the puzzles in here.
thanks again to the author for writting this and to goodreads first reads for giving me this opportunity...I love this book...
