Before long, the U.S. team realizes it has a higher duty: stopping the Third Reich from turning the war in Germany’s favor.

Before they return home, the team must battle the Nazis for the future of time itself…

This is a good first book. It does suffer from some first book like problems, but they are slight. The story is good and captivating, as is the action. The characters are interesting, wish I knew more about them. I thought the twist at the end was logical and effective, which is so very important for time travel. As for the time travel, it was effectively handled and made sense within the story, although you never quite feel in the time and place that was time travelled too. The story was fast paced and kept me interested the entire way. I recommend this novel.

'Seven Days', 'Jump into Normandy', 'Rewind' 'Time Tunnel', 'Back To The Future 2'

JUMP on Board This Book. Time Paradoxes, Nazis trying to Reboot WW2 and "MADD SCIENCE!" A Short Ranger team (Think Regimental Recon meets the 'D-Boys'), gets sent into the French Countryside when a Nuke Sniffer satellite records a strange spike of radiation. The composite team, with a Swiss Commo female (can you say 'Athena Project') commando, dragging along a Brit CBRN expert "Science!") into a scientific impossibility. A NAZI built Time Machine in a ruined bunker complex. [FLASH] They are back into the tail end of WW2 with 21st century technology, body Armor, weapons, Commo and a Future that is open to a team of Brandenburgers (NAZI SF) who are relying on a Secret Project to Change the past. WW2 MAY not be the Same! [Small things: When the Team rappels to the Ground during INFIL, WHERE did the Ropes go? Chopper cannot Fly with ropes a'dangling and the team did Not s-fold them on the ground and take them with so, what happened to them? LOL.

This was an awesome story!

A team of special ops Rangers get thrown back into 1945 Nazi occupied France. Not only are there some serious twists involving the characters, but their tooth-and-nail fight to keep the Nazi captain from using their last-resort super weapon gets pretty intense.

I very much recommend this book for anyone a fan of time-travel books, or World War II history, or even just military thrillers in general. Well written, well crafted, and very intelligently executed (considering many time-travel books tend to take a bit too much license with logic).

Exciting!

I gave this story 5 stars because it so enthralled me that I couldn't stop reading it. The characters were awesome! Their encounters with the Nazis when they went back in time kept me engrossed in the story. After I began relating parts of the story to my husband, he became very interested and wanted me to read the rest of the story to him. This was a nice way for us to do something together. I hope there is a sequel. Can't wait for one to come out!

Fun read

WWII story? Or Sci-fi story? It's both. Enjoyed reading about special forces team going back in time trying to stop Nazi special forces from winning the war. Good story with lots of action. Enjoyed reading it.

Would not read again

I found the book very confusing and the characters unbelievable. I often had to go back and re-read sections to understand who was who and what was going on. I did not enjoy it.

Good story

Enjoyable reading. Not always technically accurate but still an enjoyable reading experience. Some well done twists in the story that keep the reader guessing.

Project Return Fire is the first time travel book that I've read since HG Wells in my early youth. The Special Forces team were investigating an anomaly in the mountains of Switzerland and ended up getting zapped back to early 1945 - only a few months from VE Day. At first it was difficult for the team to believe they travelled in time, but then they discovered a plot by the Nazis to return to 1939 and take action that will end the war and make Germany victorious.

I did find myself confused on occasion, but further reading clarified matters. How can this team foil the Nazi's plan and return to 2015? Will their actions in 1945 impact the future? You'll have to read the story and find out. The ending was a big surprise for me and allowed me to close the book with a smile on my face. Great job, Mr. Davies!

As a side note, the book is missing words in the sentences throughout the book. I don't know if it is due to a formatting error or not. They are distracting and should be corrected.

Project Return Fire was made up of some of my very favorite elements to read about: military fiction, World War 2, and time travel. I thought each of these things was done very well in the novel. The Alpha Team was made up of well-developed and interesting people, and their actions and banter felt wonderfully authentic for a modern military special forces group. I loved the 1940’s soldiers as well, and the way they all interacted. The time travel part of the story was awesome. I was glad it was well-explained throughout the novel, and the author threw in the perfect surprises that make time travel a lot of fun while also not making it too predictable; not an easy thing to do when writing in this genre. Overall, I loved the book and read it very quickly. It was a concise stand-alone story, but with a definite chance for a sequel, which I hope very much to see at some point in the future.

An interesting WWII story involving manipulation and time travel. It was interesting and I'm glad I read it. It shows the versatility of Mr. Davies and his co-author but I prefer the murder mystery stories that he has written to this time travel. It was quite intriguing and there were lots of twists and turns and I must admit that I didn't totally understand why certain things occurred the way they did and how someone could return to the same spot they left only minutes before but much older than when he left. But, setting all that aside, the story was a good read and I recommend it.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is not overly unique and has some relatively expected plot-twists at times, but it flows well, is easy to read, and is, well, FUN. I mean - what history buff/time-travel lover HASN'T thought about going back to Nazi Germany? I would certainly read another book in this series.

Entertaining time travel read .. special forces, nazi plots. Still a few typo/grammar issues to disrupt the story, but I enjoyed the underlying plot enough to keep reading.

An interesting story--though it plays footsie with the classic time-travel paradox.
I would have liked to give the book a higher rating, but it is marred by a substantial amount of f-bombing.
