Dr. Albion Woodbury Small, Ph.D. (Johns Hopkins University, 1889) was the president of Colby College (Waterville, Maine) and went on to found the first Department of Sociology in the United States at the University of Chicago in 1892 and establish the American Journal of Sociology.

I liked the quote “theological religions have always been ungenuine because they have made the mystical the key to the real. The religion of social science will make the real the key to the mystical” (276).
