Take Me to Church

Rate this book
On a desolate patch of land, far from any town and linked to the shore only by a rocky causeway, there stands an old wooden church that has been left empty for more than a century. No-one goes there anymore, but the church still has one forgotten purpose, and now it's about to get pressed back into service.

Rachel has just survived something horrific, something that left her with terrible injuries that will most likely kill her soon. She stood up against the darkest evil, and she averted a tragedy. Now, as death threatens its slow embrace, Rachel has been taken by her remaining disciples to the church, where she will either recover or die.

At least, that's what she hopes will happen.

For Rachel, the danger is still very real. Rachel is certain that she banished the evil during her final battle, but worries that other dark forces might yet be out for revenge. Hideously injured and on the verge of death, she's preparing to face the truth. And then, against her strictest orders, her helpers make one final mistake.

They bring a child to the church.

Take Me to Church is a horror novel about a woman who thought she'd defeated evil, but who now feels a dark force closing in, and about a child who ends up drawn into the heart of battle.

This novella had me hooked from the very beginning. Fast-paced and full of suspense as evil battles good. It's all wrapped up in a great ending. Loved Rachel and her church as well as the mystery surrounding what happened before.

Another awesome story

Another amazing story from my favorite story teller. I wasn't sure, at first, if I would like this book. However, before I knew it, I was pulled deep into the story of Rachel and her church, and found myself feeling sad when it was over. That's how I know how well an author has writhen if they've successfully left me feeling like I've lost an old friend when I'm done. Characters in the stories I read are no different than those I've encountered throughout my life and who've left their mark upon my memory as old friends. This is one of those stories.

Good story

Interesting characters kept me wanting to know more. Like what was the battle and who. Was it against. Left a lot of loose ends

I think this would've been better if it would've been about a hypocrite taking somebody to church and then hurting them, but I like the spirit of faith in the book, even though there wasn't much talk of God, if any. And there were plenty of kick-butt, fight-filled scenes to hook any horror fan. The only negative is that there are too many typos because she's a fast-and-the-furious self-pubber.

I usually love Amy's books, but this one unfortunately wasn't for me. I didn't like being thrown into the story with no clear explanation of what was going on, but the main problem for me was that the story dragged on and I found myself reading just a couple of lines of dialogue per page for the whole second half of the book and being perfect able to follow the plot until the end anyway. Meaning there was A LOT of unnecessary ink. It's a fairly short novel as it is, but I think it could have made for a better read if it had been even shorter and more condensed. I always found that unnecessary length in horror books kinda kill the vibe.
That being sad, I have no problem DNFing books, and I did finish this one, so I guess it's not that bad

Good vs evil

A great short novella about good vs evil. Love this story and wish there was a prequel to it. Amy cross has become one of my favorite authors and I highly recommend her books. You will not be disappointed. Loved how she ended it also. Just a fantastic little read.

Not really for me.

Any Cross is a brilliant writer, but not all of her books truly reflect this. Unfortunately, this was one such story. Well constructed and well written, yes, but it did nothing for me. I was left confused by this book, there should have been more to the story.

Good, interesting. Pretty good writing. I'm not sure how the main character did what she did, as injured as she was - but it went with the story.

Simple Story

Fast moving story that is very different
Than a standard short story. Good against evil from start to finish
And a young girl steals the show

Not my favorite Amy Cross book but a good book to read. It was amazing what they accomplished with the state they were in when they arrived. Give it a try. Hope you like it because I didn't give up on it and read to the last page.

Very weird .. Not at all sure about this one .. I think because we are not told much of the back story, I felt that I had turned up at the beginning of Part 2 .. the fantasy element wasn't really my thing either .. Moving ending .. I've really enjoyed my previous AC reads, and will definitely read more ..

This was an unusual and intriguing story, one that explored the meaning of faith but in an unexpected way.

Rachel has battled in a mighty war, the details of which are sketchy as is her past, and yet it is enough to know that she is brave, determined and fights for what is right.

I think the backstory would have made a great book on its own, however, the glimpses demonstrate her worthwhile character.

Her faith in that isolated church is absolute and although the reasons are not fully revealed, the relationship is touching...original concept, which is one of the reasons I enjoy this author's work.

A great easy flow narrative, mixed with an odd enemy and Tammy, make this a very good read.

Just "ok"

I would consider this story mediocre. I found myself skipping through large sections. It could have been a neat story but it just didn't pan out. Too repetitive and the proofreading/editing is bad. In one section, they call someone by the wrong name the whole time. Spelling errors too. I can usually ignore but not this time. Pick another book. This one isn't worth it.
