In this romantic suspense novella, Jillian is the master landscaper at a beautiful park. Meeting Travis there soon after breaking up with her boyfriend, Jillian is wary at first. Travis seems like a great guy, but Jillian has fallen for great guys before. When she learns that his brother, Craig, was murdered six months before, her heart goes out to Travis. When I started this book I was unsure how much could mystery and romance could be in a small book. I was happily surprised to find that Rachelle Christensen filled those pages with a great romantic suspenseful story. Jillian and Travis make such a great couple. They have so much in common and they just came to life on the page. they soon became involved in piecing together the clues to a murder and found themselves in danger. There was so much packed into this book.
I wouldn't have minded if it was a little longer, because they were so lovely to read about. Heck she even included a few yummy sounding recipes. I was provided a review copy of this book from the publisher.
This is a romantic suspense novella. It is very good story that you can read in just a short time. It has mystery, drama, romance and danger. It is also a clean read.
I have enjoyed reading Rachelle J. Christensen books.
Jillian is working in a park planting flowers. She loves her work. Craig is a mechanic that has moved back to his home town for his sister. His brother-in-law was murdered. The killer was never caught. Craig and Jillian meet at the park when Craig is searching for his keys. I was given this ebook to read for free in exchange for a honest review of Silver Cascade Secrets.
A short but sweet and interesting romantic mystery. Jillian and Travis find and follow clues left by Travis' brother-in-law before his death. The mystery is good but the romance is definitely the star in this story.
I listened to this as part of the Autumn Romance Anthology. I was very disappointed in this novella because the foreshadowing was completely off. This novella left me dissatisfied.
The murderer came right out of the blue. I don't even remember his name being referenced before the climax. The motive for the murder was also thrown in without any foreshadowing. There is now way you could have known it was him and why he was doing it.
Plus, the ex boyfriend played a big role in the middle of the story. He played such a major role that I was certain he was involved with the murder. Not at all. The ex dropped off the story without so much as a mention.
The author could have used a good review of Chekhov's Gun principle--if you're going to make a big deal out of something as red herring, you need to resolve it. On the other hand, if that something is irrelevant to the story, leave it out.
Jillian is a care taker of the Silver Cascade's Park. She loves her job. She is drawn to a man playing with a girl in the Autumn leaves. He is kind and his love for the girl is evident in his actions. She is puzzled when a woman picks up the girl, leaving the man at the park. Her questions are quickly answered when she helps him locate his keys that he lost in the leaves.
The girl is his niece and he is trying to help out his widowed sister. His brother-in-law was murdered and together they puzzle out clues to solve the crime.
The events happen in a short period of time. I would have liked this story to be longer. The characters had a lot of potential and I would have liked to know more of their story. For the format of the story, this was great and it hit my need for a quick romance story. This book is perfect for the times when you don't have a lot of time and would like to escape into a fun read.
Quite a curious book. It was set in modern times, which is definitely not my favorite. The girl didn't see anything wrong with dating a divorced guy (besides that her heart was broken) and it was only 'providence' that she and Travis met. So not really any Christian content, a little too much kissing for my taste, (and generally appearance infatuation) and some unrealistic-ness. So I give this a 2.5.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I usually don't read books under 100 pages but I have to say I was impressed by the author's writing and by the story and characters. She did a wonderful job with story development and character building. This was one of those books that grabs you on the first page and keeps you there. Even for a shorter book. The story did not feel rushed and flowed flawlessly. I would highly recommend this novella.
Loved this quick read novella. It was full of mystery, suspense and romance! Jillian was a landscaper at a city park and had no clue it had ties to a murder. She and Travis start a relationship quickly and set out developing their friendship all while trying to solve his brother's murder. It's a fun afternoon read. Loved it! Great job Rachelle!
This novella is basically a romantic mystery which, with full sized novels, would develop more thoroughly throughout a series. What took only days in this story, would have taken weeks to months. So, when it first begins, the reader is grabbed immediately with the budding relationship between Jillian and Travis. Travis' brother-in-law, Craig was murdered, and six months later the killer is still on the loose. Clues begin popping up, and Jillian is brought into the mix due to her curious nature (her dad nicknamed her "Nancy Drew"). Ah, but there's an ex-boyfriend, Caleb, that also pops up, and wants to rekindle his relationship with Jillian. Will she give this smooth talker another chance, or not?
There is more sweetness to this story, than mystery, but it's still a good read; also two recipes at the end, and that's always a good bonus.
I read this after reading other examples of Rachelle's work and this isn't my favorite. I find that I want more background. However, I love the fun banter between the characters. I can't stand the ex-boyfriend but that's kind of the point, and to make up for it there's great family loyalty among the others. I think this novella would be great in an expanded form with more back story and character development. With what we have, it definitely makes me want to read quickly to find out what's happening next. The mystery starts early on and the danger and suspense soon after. Everything develops so you aren't sure where to turn to figure it out. Clean romantic suspense, free novella if you sign up for the newsletter and both this novella and the newsletter are fun reads.
Silver Cascade Secrets, my first read from author Rachelle J. Christensen & the first book in The Silver Cascade Suspense series introducing Jillian Warren. An enjoyable short (85 pages), well-written read. I'd gotten this book back in January of 2017 and never got around to reading it until now but I enjoyed it so much that Double Take (Silver CascadeSuspense Book 2) is already queued up on my Kindle.
I don't usually read anything to do with romance, but I had got this one for free, and since it was a mystery, I couldn't resist, so I read it. It is not a bad book; it has a twist for an ending that I was not expecting. I liked the fact that the romance was kept to a minimal,
It is a short story about a young lady who falls in love with a guy she meets at the park where she works, and he has a mystery that she can't help getting involved in,
I really enjoyed this short, entertaining read! The book was easy to read, flowed smoothly and progressed at a nice pace. As a mother of 2 under 3, it was nice to sit down and be able to read a novel and finish it the same day around tending to the children!
A nice romance with an interesting mystery thrown in. Loved the focus on gardening, too!
Not a huge fan of this book. Both the plot and the characters, which were underdeveloped due to the page length constraints of a novella, were boring. The story seemed both rushed and forced to fit the novella format.
A missed opportunity for the author considering her characters and plot had tremendous potential outside the novella format. Huge disappointment
Jill was in charge of he memorial garden for Travis's' sister's husband who had been murdered. Travis's brother -in-law left notes that his wife had found mentioning the the park where Jillian worked. He wanted her o help him find whatever his brother had hidden. You need to read the book to find out if the murderer was found and see if Jillian and Travis found love with each other.
A short story about a landscaper at a city park. She has no clue about the hidden evil history of the park. Well written with lots of action and suspense. Throw in some hidden secrets and a little romance and you have a great lunchtime or doctors office visit read. I received an arc copy of this novella and voluntarily chose to review it.

Short Novella describing how Jillian and Travis first met. More romance than mystery. A different slant from the normal murder mystery. Very good characters of Jillian and Travis. Enjoyable short read. I would like to read more stories about them. Good book.
This story that takes place in my old stomping grounds. Jillian is the landscaper who is responsible for Silver Cascade Park. Travis has lost his keys and she helps him find them. They become close as they try to solve the murder of Travis' brother-in-law. Great fun.
Great romance, mystery book that is just superb to read. A first book for me from this author, but definitely not the last. The characters are absolutely adorable together to make a good read
It needed to be longer. I was just getting in to it and then it ended. More character development, more to the story, stretch your plot out a little more. It just ended way to quick for me.
I enjoyed this little murder mystery. It was a good easy read with a nice little ending. I can recommend this book to anyone that wants a quick cosy mystery read.
I appreciate that this is a clean read, not always easy to find in romantic suspense. It's very short but the characters and plot were well-developed for the length. I liked the characters, and the mystery was unusual. A fun, quick read.
Silver Cascade Secrets promises to be a “romantic suspense novella” and it delivers in all three categories. Christensen kept me turning pages (well, digital pages), and I can’t say if I was more determined to see Jillian and Travis finally connect or to discover who killed Travis’ brother-in-law and why. The murder was never solved, and as Jillian gets closer to decoding the mysterious letters Craig left behind, the she could be endangering herself. Travis seems like the ideal man for Jillian, but what if he was involved in Craig’s death somehow? And even if he is the man for Jillian, Caleb, her ex, comes crawling back begging for just one more chance.
Christensen has delivered a book which offers genuine romance while still remaining “clean.” You won’t find any graphic sex depicted. And the suspense involves murder and cover-up, yet borrows heavily from the “cozy” genre. I would be perfectly comfortable with my 13-year-old reading Silver Cascade Secrets.
Mystery and suspense mixed with romance in an easy, short read – what’s not to like? I look forward to reading more from Rachelle J. Christensen.
