Lia Battelli’s life changed the day she met the daughter that she’d given up twenty-three years ago.
After a lifetime of guilt, she’s desperate to live her life in a way that honors her daughter. In order to do this, she’ll accept the gifts her wealthy daughter has given her, moving to the quaint Tuscan village she’d known as a child.
In Italy, Lia attempts to live out her dream of owning a restaurant—of getting her life back on track, but when a man from her past shows up, she finds herself battling secrets once again, secrets that threaten to keep her from ever finding true happiness.
Telling him everything is a risk she must take if she has any hope of moving on with her life—and maybe, if she’s so lucky, she just might also find true love in the process.

In Her Own Time: Legacy Series Book 2 is by Paula Kay. This book continues the story of the people who comprised Arianna’s family, her friends and her birth mother. It deals with coping with the death of someone you love and may or may not have known well. It also deals with coping with the sudden influx of unexpected money and the expectations accompanying that money. Set in Italy, Paula provides us with the perfect background for someone who loves to cook. Lia had lost her daughter again, this time permanently. She had hoped to spend years getting to know her daughter again and ended up having only months. She would give up everything she had received from Ari if she could have her back. Instead, she had more money than she had ever had before and a restaurant in Italy. It was only when the others, especially Gigi and Douglas intervened that she packed up and headed to Italy and her restaurant. Will she find herself here where she had grown up? Would she eventually run into Antonio, her lost love? Would she have the courage to finally tell him about Arianna? Would she be accepted in her village again? Only time will tell. I found the book to be great. It deals with the complexities of men and women both alone and together. It deals with guilt and regret as well as second chances. More important than action is the complex relationships between people.
After reading the first book and finding so many unanswered questions about Lia and Antonio, I'm glad this book went a long way in answering those. I loved the setting and and it makes me want to visit Tuscany sometime. I appreciate the concept of the book, and even more so if you think about how women in so many ways sacrifice their own lives for their children, a theme that wasn't touched on in this book. Lia's actions were driven by guilt . But I think not entirely by guilt, and the book never went to those places. But, a good read about the power of friends and guilt and new beginnings.
Arianna had been gone a year since Buying Time and Lia was having a hard time doing what she knew Ari had hoped for her. But with her friends help she was finally going to return to Italy. It was going to.hard and she didn't know if she was really up to it. I really enjoyed this sequel and hope you will as well.
This story is part two of the series. It takes a view from Lia, Ari mom and how she needs to move on with her life after the passing of her daughter. Will she move to Italy as Ari had hoped and become the new owner of the restaurant called Thyme or will she stay in San Francisco?
This is a continuation of the Legacy series. Lia has gone to Italy to run the restaurant Ari left her. But she has to work very hard to free herself from the past and move on with her life.
In Her Own Time is the sequel to Buying Time exploring mostly the life of Arianna's mother and how she is coping with her death. Lia and all of Arianna's close friends have had a year to let it sink in that she is gone and to decide what to do with all of the generosity she has left for them all. Lia, in particular, is having a hard time making that decision. Before Arianna's death, she bought her birth mother a restaurant in Italy so that she could move back there and fulfill what she thought was her dream.
Lia is finally convinced to do just that by all of her "adopted family" (Arianna's closest friends), but she still does not seem happy. Soon after she moves back to Italy, she is reunited with the love of her life and Arianna's father although he had no idea she even existed. After finally revealing everything to him about their daughter, he is shaken, but still loves Lia and decides to come back to her. However, Lia is still not happy. She eventually realizes that she needs to live the life that she wants; not the life she thought Arianna wanted her to live.
I read this book while at the beach and it was the perfect light beach book if that's what you're looking for. Nothing too exciting and nothing too gripping, but a nice easy story.
Loved learning more about Lia's life after the loss of Ari and her move to Italy. The ending was very emotional but perfect. A must read. Can't wait to start book 3.
A little too predictable but enjoyable. Lia has to find a balance between what she wants for herself and what she thinks Ari would have wanted. Once she figures that out she is ready to move on.
This book picked up where the first book ended...with Lia's story as she relocated to Italy. I cried myself through this book, too. It was so worth it...I still loved the characters - old and new - and am now ready to read book three!!
We pick up Lia's story a year after the events of Buying Time. Lia has yet to make the move to Italy and take up the challenge of building her new life and business. Can she move on or are there too many ghosts waiting to greet her around every corner?
