312 books4,368 followersI was born and raised in suburban Boston. My mother’s death, when I was eight, was the defining event of a childhood that was otherwise ordinary. I took piano lessons and flute lessons. I took ballroom dancing lessons. I went to summer camp through my fifteenth year (in Maine, which explains the setting of so many of my stories), then spent my sixteenth summer learning to type and to drive (two skills that have served me better than all of my other high school courses combined). I earned a B.A. in Psychology at Tufts University and an M.A. in Sociology at Boston College. The motivation behind the M.A. was sheer greed. My husband was just starting law school. We needed the money.
Following graduate school, I worked as a researcher with the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, and as a photographer and reporter for the Belmont Herald. I did the newspaper work after my first son was born. Since I was heavily into taking pictures of him, I worked for the paper to support that habit. Initially, I wrote only in a secondary capacity, to provide copy for the pictures I took. In time, I realized that I was better at writing than photography. I used both skills doing volunteer work for hospital groups, and have served on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and on the MGH’s Women’s Cancer Advisory Board.
I became an actual writer by fluke. My twins were four when, by chance, I happened on a newspaper article profiling three female writers. Intrigued, I spent three months researching, plotting, and writing my own book - and it sold.
My niche? I write about the emotional crises that we face in our lives. Readers identify with my characters. They know them. They are them. I'm an everyday woman writing about everyday people facing not-so-everyday challenges.
My novels are character-driven studies of marriage, parenthood, sibling rivalry, and friendship, and I’ve been blessed in having readers who buy them eagerly enough to put them on the major bestseller lists. One of my latest, Sweet Salt Air, came out in 2013. Blueprints, my second novel with St. Martin’s Press, became my 22nd New York Times bestselling novel soon after its release in June 2015. Making Up, my work in progress, will be published in 2018.
2018? Yikes. I didn’t think I’d live that long. I thought I’d die of breast cancer back in the 1900's, like my mom. But I didn’t. I was diagnosed nearly twenty years ago, had surgery and treatment, and here I am, stronger than ever and loving having authored yet another book, this one the non-fiction Uplift: Secrets From the Sisterhood of Breast Cancer Survivors. First published in 2001, Uplift is a handbook of practical tips and upbeat anecdotes that I compiled with the help of 350 breast cancer survivors, their families and friends. These survivors just ... blew me away! They gave me the book that I wish I’d had way back when I was diagnosed. There is no medical information here, nothing frightening, simply practical advice from friends who’ve had breast cancer. The 10th Anniversary Volume of Uplift is now in print. And the money I’ve made on the book? Every cent has gone to my charitable foundation, which funds an ongoing research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Disappointing. Unlike the other books I've read by Delinsky, this one was an unrealistic, graphic romance that was all about sexual tension, which was equated as love. Barf... Gag...

Through My Eyes, was such a wonderful read, and it’s my first book l have read from this author Barbara Delinsky, and its not going to be my last.
This was a very romantic, and a beautifully written story, that is so heartwarming.
The characters are there to fall in love with, and the storyline was sexy full of 💔 love, actually some very steamy 🧖♂️ sensuous love scenes, that goes on, and are quite memorable.💋👄🤪.
The story is about a woman 👩🏼 Jill has lived alone in a small coastal Maine town, pursuing her career as an artist 👩🏻🎨.
She cherishes her simple uncomplicated life, surrounded by a few very close friends, and she does not want anything to change.
But her best friend, is in trouble, and needs legal advice, and has found one of the best lawyers.
Peter is a big city lawyer with big money 💴, everything Jill rejected years ago, she knows she needs his help, but she isn’t prepared to like him, nor does she expect to start imagining a new kind of life, one with a family and love.
Overall l think Barbara Delinsky could become, a new addition, she has a quite a book list, can’t wait to read more.

After her husband's death, Jill Moncreiff lived alone in coastal Maine. She was an artist and worked at pursuing her career. Her best friend is in trouble and she hires the best lawyer she can find, Peter Hathaway. She needs his help, but isn't prepared to like him. When he shows up at her house, one look and she is filled with desire. The story was an easy read, and I liked the portrait of the characters.

I happened to enjoy the inner struggle Jill had with letting go of her husband before starting over. It was relatable. Since this is an older book, it was also refreshing reading these lovely sensual scenes without naming all the body parts as authors do today. And the plot about the diamond smuggling had a satisfying ending as well!

I absolutely hated the heroine in this book. I found Gillian to be the most self centered brat I’d read about in a long time. It has been forever since I’ve ever disliked a character more. I felt Peter deserved so much better then an immature woman like Gillian.

wow first time reading an 80s romance book and you could definitely tell it was written in the 80s. i kinda loved it though. it was definitely cheesy and unrealistic but it had a solid story and lovable characters.

Took one of my mom's romances on vacation. A woman still mourning the long ago death of her husband hires a hotshot lawyer to defend her friend from a smuggling charge. Mystery and romance abound.

I like a good story with a tad bit of romance. This was a romantic story as the forerunner. Of course, the conversations and actions were completely unrealistic ... which is why I like books as aforementioned. Oh well. This was a new author for me to try and now I can say that I have!

Well, first of all, that Jillian is kind of a whole different person but she realize that she needed peter more than Adam since he died in 6 years. Jill had loved him more than anything in this world but glad that she told him " i do love you." In the end of this book.
I had no idea that Copper had a child benjji & he didn't tell Jill that he had a child instead of his half-brother & still didn't tell her what happened in the past expect Swansy that she just knew everything about Copper & his son.
Peter seemed kind of sexual of his mind toward her but he didn't want to know her in her life but she did told about her past in her family life.
Cyrill should be jail she stashed diamonds in the free regins & his cabin, she shouldn't bretray his life cause he truly loves her oh so much! He needs to realize that she wasn't good for him because of stealing things & her child.
It was a really good book to read & I really enjoyed it very much.

This book wasn't really one of my favorites. How can a person let the death of someone they loved push them away when they're overwhelmingly attracted to someone else? Love is too precious for that craziness, but ohh us crazy human beings!

I am not really into Romance novels...and this is what this book is. I guess I didn't realize it when I chose it. But I felt it was a waste of good reading time.

This is an old book by an author who have have read many many times. It was good, but not as wonderful as some of her later work. The story was very good, about a women who was holding on to the memory of her deceased husband.

Jill's husband died on a fishing boat accident and now his best friend is being charged with stolen diamonds. Jill hires Peter a lawyer from New York to help but more help than Jill expected comes her way.
