This was a simple, lightweight romance read. words like gentle and mild come to mind. It was a short book that spent a long time winding up to the two main characters becoming involved, and then sort of rushed through their involvement, into an action/ suspense section that felt almost out of place with the book, but that was also quickly resolved for the HEA. There was definitely something odd about the narrative pacing, how you'd be very in the moment, with dialogue, at one moment, and then rushing ahead, being told, not shown, days, months, even years. It was almost disorienting, like a strange literary amusement ride.
Despite the complaints, though, the book was pleasant and mostly harmless. Jivan let his issues make him kind of a jerk sometimes, but he and Jessica seemed well suited to each other. And while the need to have a romantic lead who is rolling in money certainly gets old after awhile, it WAS lovely to have two main characters who loved books and writing and reading and peace and quiet. Perhaps that was what helped me ignore the other weaker qualities of the book--that it was such a pleasure to read about people more like me. Less TV and parties. More reading and writing and enjoying nature.
If you need a very fast and easy read that doesn't demand much of you, and is sort of relaxing, this might be for you too. Especially if you would also enjoy the chance to walk in the shoes of character who are authors.
