Kicked out of ballet academy and straight into a school ski trip, Mouse knows certain classmates can't wait to see her fall flat on her face. Meanwhile, Jack looks forward to danger and girls, but hasn't a clue about either. That's until French teen sensation Roland arrives in the resort - who Jack's a dead ringer for. When Roland persuades Jack to be his stand-in for a day, Jack, in disguise, declares his feelings for Mouse. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to write this review. Well, I do know. I moved house, and work's been busy, and I've been a Bad Blogger. But I promise it didn't actually take me as long to read Never Evers, one of my highly anticipated books of 2016. I adored Lobsters , with its realistic relationships and hilarious antics. I knew Never Evers was a little younger, but I couldn't wait – it was the perfect book to start off the new year!

Never Evers has just as many awkward, funny and endearing characters as its predecessor. Mouse has just been kicked out of ballet school (boo) and is dreading going back to state school because she'll see her ex-best friend and current nemesis Lauren. But thankfully she makes two new best mates (yay) just in time for the dreaded skiing trip to France. On another school coach on its way to the resort, Jack's band name choice rests on being the first of his friends to kiss a girl. And thus begins one of the most adorable stories you'll read this year.

Never Evers perfectly captures what it's like to be 14-years-old. Lucy Ivison and Tom Ellen have done another wonderful job at mastering the voices of their characters. It's just so much fun. And just as uncomfortable as you remember. I thoroughly enjoyed the main storyline – the sweet and instantaneous crushes that Mouse and Jack develop on one another – and the trials and tribulations of being a teenager away from home. We have all had that one person who just won't let us be, and Lauren and her mean sidekicks' behaviour is so awful and yet so well-handled. I also loved the slightly more fanciful storyline of Jack being mistaken for French pop sensation Roland. And not forgetting Mouse's awesome new friends Connie and Kiera. It's all combined with the wonderful setting of the snowy Alps, perfect for snuggling up with this winter.

Never Evers is a wonderful follow-up, full of awkward misunderstandings, inside jokes, and close friendships. Lucy Ivison and Tom Ellen are up there among my favourite YA contemporary authors (check out their top five literary school trips here!) and I cannot wait to read their next novel, Freshers . Roll on 2017!

Thank you to the publisher for providing this book for review!

Exactly what a contemporary teen book should be. I read this in one sitting and it made me happy inside. Also the nuances of female teen friendships (and what shitbags girls can be to each other) was particularly well done.

Never Evers is the kind of book that I would describe as the perfect tween read. It is a read that is perfect for the younger teenager, the one who is just starting to progress into reading more mature books. The younger characters in this book will be relatable to those in their very early teens, as they handle first kisses and crushes on a school ski trip. It's an adorable, cutesy read that is packed full of humour and laugh out loud moments. Co-authors Tom and Ellen both bring something unique to the table, making this a book that can appeal to both boys and girls. This is kind of fun, light-hearted reads that younger teens will love, but it's probably not one that will truly work for young adults.

I was looking for something fun and cute, and I found it in Never Evers. This is on the lower end of YA, which I enjoy reading from time to time, because their experiences and goals tend to be a little different from that of upper YA. I loved all the characters, and their awkward attempts to get their first kisses, but I also enjoyed the friendship that they shared as well. This was a fun and funny and a great way to pass some time.

Imi lipsise sa citesc o lectura asa, usoara. Sa ma bucur de poveste, putin implicata emotional.

I really enjoyed Lobsters, a book that this duo have previously written together, so when I saw they had a new book coming out I knew I had to read it. Knowing what to expect from these two authors, I could not wait to dive in when Never Evers arrived, but once I began reading I somewhat disappointed.

Never Evers was a book that made me laugh, and made me want to slap Lauren and her followers in the face, but it didn't blow me away like I expected it to. The story begins very vague, with Mouse (Matilda) not wanting to go on a school ski trip, and having to go with friends, Connie and Kiera, who she doesn't particularly like. I thought this was mean of her, The friends she went with accepted her back into the group like she hadn't been gone, they picked up the friendship fast and included Mouse in everything, but because Mouse initially didn't like how they acted she was very moody about it all.
Jack is going with his friends, Max and Toddy. They go to a different school and meet the girls upon their arrival at the resort. If I'm being honest I did like Jack and Toddy, but Max really annoyed me, wanting to be the best, wanting to be someone who he wasn't, in any way, shape or form. He acted more like a child than the age he was meant to be. I could have happily stood him next to Lauren and slapped them both.

The idea behind Never Evers was nice, I liked the whole mistaken identity with a pop star, and the very reluctant girl being spotted, but overall the story itself didn't really do much for me. Most of the secondary characters were easy to forget, with me only really remembering the ones I liked or wanted to slap. A lot of time was spent making plans, or wondering in the snow, or skiing, and the plot eventually got lost on me.

Final Verdict
Overall Never Evers was an OK read while it lasted, I liked the snow and some of the characters. But looking back now, I really don't think I could tell you what happened or pinpoint the characters.

In tabara la schi este o saracacioasa intamplare a unor adolescenti din Anglia care in vacanta merg, asa cum reiese din titlu, la Schi.
E o carte plictisitoare, doar finalul m.a tinut treaza sa o termin.

I caught my eleven-year-old daughter looking through my YA romance novels and so I directed her to this book instead. She read it in one day, laughing and giggling at all the awkward moments and funny antics. She loved it!

My daughter talked my ear off about this book and sighed happily when she turned the last page. It's great to have cute and clean romance novels that girls her age can enjoy.

It's about a girl named Mouse who gets kicked out of ballet school. Her new school is going on a ski trip to France, which is fun and exotic. Of course, the thirteen-year-olds in this book are all hoping to get their first kisses and see if their crushes like them back. Add in a couple of awkward characters, a young movie star, and friend drama, and you've got a fun book that pre-teens and young teens adore.

What an excellent way to ski and snowboard right into all the fun, friends, drama and craziness that is middle school!
Emotions run high and some learn what it means to truly be a friend and have a friend who's got your back.
There is also plenty of laugh out loud moments that will make you wish this book could go on much longer!
Thoroughly enjoyable read for both boys and girls. – Jennifer K.

Cute, funny, entertaining ❄️💫

After Mouse got kicked out of ballet school she feels like she can’t dance anymore. But there is one thing that takes her mind off it: her school ski trip. There she deals with mean girls, hamsters, and maybe a first crush?

Jack and his friends have been planning their first kiss as soon as they stepped on the bus to go to their snowboard trip in France. But when he gets there is not what he expected with pop stars, girls, and closet rats?!

This book is a perfect winter read if you just wanna have fun. The characters are very sweet and realistic and each chapter kept me interested. ❤️

I can’t say much because I really enjoyed this silly, fun read! 💌

Hamsters, trips, skiing, popstars, romance, awkward and hilarious situations! This book was just so much fun and I laughed so many times.

I read these 2 authors first book (Lobsters) last year and while it did have some bumps in the road, it was a good book, and so I just had to check out this book to see if the duo made yet another laugh-out-loud book. And they did! This one was even better than Lobsters. It still had some things that I didn't entirely like, but those faded away in the background of the book.

Like Lobsters this book is once again split up in two POVs, and like with the other book I am happy they choose this kind of POV. This way we can see what both the characters are thinking, and also see their stupid mistakes (well, mostly Jack's stupid mistakes). Both characters had their good and bad sides.

Mouse, our dancer, who just got kicked out of balletschool and is back at normal school, is an interesting character, who is sweet, nice, friendly, and who made me laugh so hard so many times.
I loved her with Keira and Connie, they made quite a nice group of friends and she fitted in with them perfectly. She didn't have to pretend, she just could be herself, and that way I could see a whole fun character.
I also loved her dance background.
But she also had a side I didn't like. Yes, I can imagine why she did the things she did, the lying, but I wish she would have been honest from the start. Yes, it might be hard to face reality, but isn't it better to be honest to people? They will find out sooner or later, and it won't be so much fun if they do. The mean girls are already on your case, do you really need them to be more on your case? :|

Jack, an interesting, but also clueless guy who apparently doesn't get why a girl who get mad at him. But a guy who also isn't afraid to pursue a girl if he really likes her. I didn't particularly like his group of friends. One was just too mousey and silent and disappeared in the background and I totally forgot about him, the other was obnoxious and selfish.
Luckily, he was the one who generally had his head on right.
Sadly, just like Mouse, he had a side I didn't like. Since it will be a spoiler I will post it under spoiler tags.

Then we also have Roland, our hot popstar boy, who had a really nice side to him, and I really loved all the parts which featured him.

We also have lots of skiing (and snowboarding and skating), and I could just imagine myself at that place and having a great time (and probably also getting muscle ache due to never having skied or gone snowboarding). Then drinking hot chocolate until I explode (because what is better than drinking hot chocolate after a lovely trip in the snow-covered mountains).

I also loved the hamster, it just gave the book something extra. Plus I just adore hamsters!

There are also the typical mean girls (it seems you barely can have a book about schools without them). I just wanted to put a snowball into those girls' clothes. :|

This book just flies by and believe me you will laugh your butt off a lot of times. I would definitely recommend this one.

Lobsters was one of my favourite books of 2014 so I was super excited when Never Evers arrived through my door. It lived up to my expectations completely!

Once again, Tom Ellen and Lucy Ivison take a perfective each, split between Mouse and Jack and their friends from different schools on a ski trip in France. I loved the friendships in this book so hard. They all bicker, disagree, tease, egg each other on and make fun of each other, but they’re unfailingly loyal to each other and there’s genuine affection between them. The interaction frequently made me laugh aloud and I particularly fell in love with Connie and Max never failed to make me chuckle.

While there was a lot of humour with the interactions between the characters and classic comedy antics that are bound to appear on a high school skiing trip, there was also a healthy dose of depth. Just before the beginning of Never Evers Mouse is kicked out of ballet school for failing to improve and she's set adrift, unsure of what she should do about it and filled with fear about life without ballet. I really love her character arc over the novel, especially the way she handled Lauren (ex-best friend turned mean girl) in the end of the novel.

Never Evers is fresh, funny and the perfect read to chase away the winter blues.

Mouse and Jack both go to a ski resort in France with their class. This is the first time she sees her classmates after she was admitted to ballet school. Not that long ago Jack made a fool of himself on stage with his still-unnamed band. Jack makes a bet with his friends that the first one to kiss a girl may choose the name of the band. And then Jack meets Mouse.

The magical duo strikes again! I was very curious about the book but also expected that I’d be a little less interested because the characters are early teens and I’m in my early twenties. Now I must admit that I maybe even like Never Evers more than Lobsters. Just like between Sam and Hannah there are many misunderstandings between Jack and Mouse, but both characters rely on their instinct. They are inexperienced and nervous, but when they talk they have a great chemistry.

I found the parts about pop star Roland less interesting. Fortunately it’s not a big part, unlike the plot description says. Like Lobsters the book has a very open-ending, but here it doesn’t bother me. The characters are young, they don’t need a happily ever after, just a happily now. It ends just right. I give this book a big fat recommendation!

An entertaining rom-com of a book set in the French alps during school ski-trip season. Add into the mix a teenage Justin-Bieberesque French pop star for whom Jack is a look-a-like, three boys racing to be the first to score a kiss along with a gaggle of teenaged girls and you can see where the entertainment comes from. It's good at showing the ups and downs of female friendships - and probably boy friendships, although I've less experience in that area. It's also got a few comments to make on the nature of fame and what success actually looks like as well. Splitting the narrative between Mouse and Jack will no doubt widen the appeal of the book but it's a good method of advancing the story while adding new perspectives. Entertaining and will find a good audience among junior high school students.

A quick, cute and rather humorous read for those nearly-teens.
Mouse has been kicked out of ballet school and has to return to her old school, and some less than friendly faces. She's desperately upset about the turn her life has taken, and is dreading the school ski trip that she's been sent on.
At the same time we have a Jack and his group of friends (desperate to kiss a girl, any girl) on their school ski trip.
Surprise, surprise the two groups are in the same hotel so we get to watch them forge new friendships - and get into some very silly situations.
Perhaps the weirdest moment (if you ignore the pet hamster that gets taken on the trip) is the story focusing on French teen heartthrob Roland, who gets himself caught up with these kids in a way that I can't ever see happening.
Improbable situations aside, this was good-natured fun.

I have been looking forward to Never Evers for ages after adoring Lobsters last year. Having now read it I can happily say it was just as fab as I have hoped it would be.

Think of Never Evers as Lobsters younger sibling aimed at a slightly younger audience with characters aged 14 rather than the older teens featured in Lobsters. The narrative splits between Jack and Mouse and follows them as they attend a school trip skiing in France.

The story line is really funny and I loved seeing how things played out. What I thoughts was particularly clever is the misunderstandings between the girls and the boys which you can see as a reader seeing both but each side sees differently because they don't know the whole story.

Lots of funny. Lots of teen awkwardness. I loved it.

Never Evers is aimed at a younger readership than Lobsters (the main characters are 14-ish, rather than 18), so the focus is on friendship and first kisses — no-one's trying to lose their virginity or making rude jokes. But the romance is very sweet — some scenes felt almost Stephanie Perkins-esque — and Ellen and Ivision are excellent at nailing the intricacies of friendship. Well worth a read.
