This was our textbook for what should have been the introductory course to the master's information security program. Having taken it closer to the end of my studies, I am not sure if the book really matches what that class was designed to do, i.e. bring non-technical students to the same basic level of understanding as those who come from a computer science background.

Aside from having to pay $125 for the ebook in order to have the access code to their labs, the book itself isn't half bad. It focuses more on secure programming, however, than any other aspect. It also touches lightly on a bunch of topics that were covered in more depth in program-specific courses. It was easy to read though when I wasn't fighting my slow home internet to use the highlighter. I'm not a big fan of their proprietary labs though. Some took ages to run and by the time I was done it was hard to even remember what they were about. We were also asked to connect every lab specifically to that week's reading, which was also challenging at times. So, no, I wouldn't recommend assigning it as a course text.

Decent book on the techniques applied in cyber security but of course hopelessly outdated now.
