JD Kirk is the pen name of multi-award-winning author, screenwriter, and writer of comics, Barry Hutchison.
JD Kirk lives in the Highlands of Scotland with his wife, two children, and a number of sturdy umbrellas. Despite writing from a young age, 'A Litter of Bones' is his first novel, and combines his love of the Highlands, crime thrillers, and cats.
It's the middle of the night , I'd been sleeping fine but once I woke I thought " just one chapter won't do any harm" and it didn't until I came to the end of a fabulous, amusing, horrifying - well almost- a book about Constable Tyler Neish usually contains all 3 of these qualities. JD Kirk is an amazing Crime fiction writer who always manages to get the balance just right. And Tyler uses every bit of his imagination to get out of trouble, all caused by some sheep on an exceptionally snowy day. I recommend you read the first two Novellas before this one - but not all on the same night!
Constable Neish is accident prone and clueless, yet manages to do the right thing with his usual quirky, entertaining style. In this snow-filled romp, he meets with future team mate Hamza to foil a maniacal murderer, handover a convict and thwart a would-be, vagrant murderering duo, all in a Christmas jumper and seriously itchy trousers.
Definitely something to brighten your day. It certainly did mine.
One Bad Night by J D Kirk is a Constable Tyler Neish novella and it is very entertaining, as the other two have been. Tyler is to pick up a prisoner who is being transferred from Aberdeen onwards to another prison. Then as always happens with Tyler things go wrong again that day. This time it is the weather that makes life difficult, and even more events complicate matters. Recommended
One reason I like JD Kirk's books is that they are hella funny in places, and this one was true to form. Another reason is the relationships between the main characters, and here we see the beginnings of some. Love the Jack Logan series and this one. The Hoon one takes more getting used to. One Bad Night was a delight!
If this is the last Tyler Novella I won't be sad as it was absolutely brilliant. You sort of can't imagine how things could get any worse but they did and it was lovely how characters came together. The sheep and Cliff Richard had me howling with laughter. Thank you Mr Hutchinson
It could only happen to PC Tyler Neish... runaway sheep, a snowstorm, a prisoner to collect and transport and the 1st meeting with PC Hamza Kalid... what could possibly go wrong? A laugh a minute 5✨️ read 👌
Love this novella I love the way tyler wriggles out of bad situations, and great to see how him and hamza met,You are a brilliant writer and I cannot wait to read some books with logan and the gang back together, and of course taggert x
An enjoyable short read with lots of humour. The lovable Tyler has a spectacularly bad night which he tackles in his own unique style. I read this too quickly as always.
Another awesome book from j d Kirk hadn’t read any books for a while and really enjoyed this one hope it will get me back to reading again Lovely to see how Tyler and hamza met Can’t wait for the next j d Kirk book
I absolutely love these books and characters. Jd kirk books have you laughing out loud, and fully invested in the outcome. I challenge anyone to read any of the Inverness murder team books and not get completely sucked in. More more more
I really like these short stories but this one lacked the usual spark. It was full of the bizarre content that is associated with Tyler but I missed the fun.
I love everything about Tyler and I read this latest glimpse of the start of his police career in one sitting. Could not put it down. More like this please!
So hilarious from the beginning to end. I love Tyler and all the other characters I was gutted when I finished the book 📖 can't wait to read next in the series!
