CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

Un altro capolavoro by Clamp.

Plot: ...
Gambar: Ok
Penokohan: Sifat tokoh utamanya bagus tapi tidak terpuji. Sama sekali diluar standar netralku.

a totally batshit story about a third grade boy who is forced to commit robberies by his two moms while dressed like tuxedo mask, and he falls in love with a rich girl along the way. it's a nonsense story that (thankfully) never takes itself too seriously. the art is gorgeous, as is expected from this era of clamp. but due to how old the series is, there's some takes on gender roles that are a little ehh. nothing egregious by any means, but at times i was like, "yeah, this sure was written 30 years ago." it's a fun and absurd little manga that i would recommend to clamp fans, but probably nobody beyond that.

Review for complete series

Akira follows in his father's footsteps by stealing various items as the mysterious thief known as 20 Faces. Although he also leads a normal life as a schoolboy, his mothers - of which he has two - always make sure to come up with new items for him to steal. One of his nights out as 20 Masks brings him to a villa where he meets Utako who promptly declares him the new love in her life.

Akira and Utako are cute, and that's about it. As much as I think they are an adorable couple, this manga doesn't really lead to anything. Akira and Utako are very young with him being 9 and her being 5 years old - neither of them acts according to their age. This also makes their romance seem a little hard to believe. But I am happy enough to put my disbelief aside - this is a CLAMP manga after all, they often come up with somewhat controversial couples. This story is also more on the comedic side which really allows the series a bit of freedom.

The character's age aside, the story has many elements that are left unexplained or simply don't seem very credible. Akira has two mothers - why? We never know. His father also posed as 20 Masks but we never learn what became of him or really anything about him at all. The two mothers generally don't sit right with me - they are literally referred to as Mother A and Mother B, they are slightly dim-witted cleptomaniacs who send their nine-year-old son off to steal whatever item catches their fancy. And that already sums up the entire motivation of Akira stealing at all. He himself shows no initiative that he wants to be a thief, he just goes along with whatever Mother A & B ask of him.

There's also a lot of comedy which just completely failed to make me laugh. I understand that this ties in with other CLAMP works and I suppose it could work as a spin-off with some fun cameos. Yet as a story, it is too thin and too... weird. I just feel this series can't carry itself. The absolute only thing it has going for it is the gorgeous artwork and the fact that Akira and Utako really are cute - a more realistic and perhaps more in-depth version of the story could have made this a nice romance manga, but as it is, it did not really work for me.

2.5 - This wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me. Maybe it was the main character's hair, maybe the ages. Maybe a combination of everything?

The story is quite random. Basically this kid who is 8 or 9 is robbing places in an outfit like Tuxedo Mask just because his mothers ask him to. I thought his mothers were so spoiled and irritating about it. They thoughtlessly ask their son to get stuff, and being the cute but doormat kid he is, he says yes and plans his heists.

The guy with the glasses plays into the stereotypes and talks way too much. I skipped what he said since it was over 25 words in one bubble. (It's a little much, even for me.)

Fun, but it's going to take a bit for me to get into the next book.

Even though it's still very uncommon for KG student and 4th grader to possess such minds, I still give 5 stars for dreamy storyline and artwork. This ain't just your normal thief-fell-in-love-with-a-rich-daughter, heck Akira is from a wealthy celebrity chef family. He just innocently follows his mothers (yes, mothers) innocent demands to steal the items (though the item's fate doesn't end in a pretty way lol). I recommend reading this while/after reading CLAMP School Detectives.

Today's post is on Man of Many Faces, Volume 1 by CLAMP. It is 192 pages long and is published by Tokyopop. The cover is purple with a picture of the two main characters in the center. It is the first in the Man of Many Faces duology. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. There story is told from third person close of Akira and Utako. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Please Come, 20 Faces!
Aikra Ijuin lives a double life by day he's a top student at the elite CLAMP school but by night he's the infamous their 20 Faces. A Master of Disguise and Stealth, the Masked Thief steals the most unusual objects at the whom of a pair of devious crime-lords... his two mothers! One starlight night, he meets the lovely young Utako while hiding from the police. This time, Akira finds something was stolen from him- his heart.

Review- A very cute funny little series with great art. In this series CLAMP is giving their take on the gentleman thief in a super cute way. Akira is being raised by his two silly mothers and has never known his father for reasons the reader does not know but his mothers loved him and they love Akira. He mostly steals things for his mothers, whatever they fancy at the moment. Utako is very cute and she is important to the story as she makes Aikra think about more than just what his mothers want next. It is a very fun little story and I am looking forward to reading the next one.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Another senseless story by CLAMP 🤣 Nggak kalah senseless dari Special Guard Dukylon 🤣 Abaikan urusan logika cerita, nikmati saja gambarnya 🤣

Another strange thing?

Well....

Trash With Cute Art Is Still Trash

Oooh how I hated this. It's ridiculous in a not fun way with child characters who sound nothing like children. The main character has two moms who are total garbage - not only do they demand their NINE YEAR OLD constantly steal for them when they're already rich and live in a mansion, they do nothing and the kid - again, NINE YEARS OLD - cooks and cleans for them. Horribly vapid trash.

The kids act nothing like kids. The nine year old has a six year old girlfriend, which is weird, and they have conversations like they are, at youngest, teenagers. Why have them be kids if they don't remotely act like kids? Have the authors never met children?

Plus there's some awful relationship advice going on. This is just a mess of bad ideas. And the name makes no sense, as it's not like the thief has a bunch of disguises or anything. It's the same outfit. Same face.

Ugh.

This book makes me disproportionately mad and I shall not read the rest of the series. 100% do not recommend.

I love Clamp, but I think this story is a bit harder to enjoy now as a jaded adult. The main characters are too young and the majority of the characters have some sort of annoying traits such as the main female protagonist, the two mothers, and the high school detective. My favorite character is probably the wise school doctor. I love the story-telling and deep moral education. The art is also super adorable and super Clamp. Overall, it was alright.

A 5 y/o and a 9 y/o who act like adults and fall in fated love.
Mothers who make their 9 y/o child steal for them for funsies. "If you think about it, they're horrible parents"
You know, just CLAMP things...
Truly a ridiculous mess.

It’s not as good as other CLAMP stories but it has their pretty art so can’t complain much. It’s a little weird how young Akira and Utako are but I like their perspective on how love and romantic relationships should be
