CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

Review for complete series

The CLAMP campus is as busy as a city - and what is a city without its defenders of peace? Next to their busy life as students, Kentarou and Takeshi are also Duklyon, the CLAMP School Defenders. Keeping their identities secret is almost as difficult as keeping aliens at bay, but they are always at the ready to fulfil their duty.

I love CLAMP for their crossovers. This is yet another instalment to their CLAMP campus - although I really like the concept around it, the actual works related to it just aren't that strong. Duklyon is, I'm sad to say, the weakest of the lot.

It couldn't be more obvious in the fact that this is a parody. It seems like both a homage and an absolute overdramatised version of justice fighters. The scenarios are utterly ridiculous and predictable - every chapter follows the exact same formula.

Although the parody is pulled off nicely, it soon becomes repetitive and thus tiring to read. I like comedy, but I do like at least a tiny bit of seriousness along the way. For Duklyon, it is really just that - gags and laughs. I believe it would have worked better if it had tied in with more of CLAMP's (more serious) works to add some comic relief or even stand in stark contrast. Even adding an odd serious scene of its own would have done this series some good.

MInd-bendingly funny! A tokusatsu satire of epic proportions! Clamp School Defenders Duklyon is chalked full of realistic characters, page-turning plots and death-defying-derring-do! Err... Okay that last part was a complete lie.

Easily CLAMP's funniest work, Clamp School Defenders Duklyon is the perfect addition to any manga collection. Duklyon boasts a terrific translation, adorable monsters that are always and forever vanished with the exact same attack and characters with names so long they will literally take up four hyphenated lines in some bubbles. A must (not) read!

Interesting characters, especially Kentaro and Takeshi, unfortunately, it's all lost in a sea of stupidity and forced cuteness. The same dumb, cringe-worthy plot time and time again. I bought this manga mostly because I wanted to learn more about Kenpi and Takepon, but I'm glad that I bought only one volume. I won't be continuing this series.

Yay! Yay! Duklyon! This manga is seriously funny. Though the process is sometimes repetitive, it progresses along. The boys are funny as well. And how come they did NOT know their commander is Nokoru?!?!?!?! It's rather not understandable! I recommend reading this after CLAMP School Detectives and after Please! 20 Faces.

A prime example of CLAMP loving to tell, not show. Also off-the-walls weird, but not in a fun way?
We are told that Takeshi and Kentaro are best friends, but what we are shown is Kentaro disregarding Takeshi's boundaries, which always results in Takeshi adamantly saying that they don't have a friendship to begin with. It is the rest of the characters who see their animosity and declare that it's a case of "the lad doth protest too much", but Takeshi does not display any signs of caring about Kentaro any more than an average coworker. So it feels like CLAMP is begging the audience to believe that these two are close friends, without putting any of the work in to develop them to that point. I just end up feeling sorry for Takeshi, who has to put up with this weirdo who won't take no for an answer, despite being told multiple times that his comments are uncomfortable.
Eri also rubbed me the wrong way, but for a different reason. It appears that, in creating a strong female character, CLAMP went way too far and made her entirely unlikable, demanding perfection and beating her subordinates even when they're doing fine work. Instead of seeing her as a strict upperclassman, I was more convinced that she was a bully with a weird amount of subservience to a middle-schooler.
And that brings us to my third and final grievance here: what was going on here? So much of the plot hinges (get it?) on random stuff happening. Even the blocking and fight scenes don't make any sense. Characters defy continuity and every twist is based not on what makes sense for the characters, but on whether it's shocking enough . The pacing is so fast that each fight takes about a page to complete, and they're not even interesting enough to warrant half of that.
I'll wrap it up quick since I'm rambling - the characters are unlikable, the pacing and choreography are awful, and every plot point attempts to out-random the previous one. If you have to read this to complete your CLAMP collection, go ahead, but I can't promise you'll have a good time.

It feels good to be able to review a CLAMP title, especially one I've never read before, and especially one connected to the fun little universe surrounding the "CLAMP school." I've never had a chance to read CLAMP School Defenders Duklyon before, but when the first volume came up in my personal recommendations on Thriftbooks, I knew I was going to have to pick it up and give it a shot, especially after how much I had enjoyed the CLAMP School Detectives and Man of Many Faces.

From point one, this title makes it pretty clear it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's meant to be a fun, playful little installment in the CLAMP School universe, with the main characters of Kentaro and Takeshi donning costumes that pay homage to the super sentai genre, in order to take directions from a very familiar "general" to combat the plots of the Imonoyama Shopping District Association...most of which are rather corny and half-baked to begin with. I'd place the genre for this as pure comedy with teases of action and romantic drama.

This isn't, however, a title I would recommend to newbie manga readers, much less newbie CLAMP readers. It's meant to be consumed in conjunction with the other CLAMP School titles, such as the aforementioned CLAMP School Detectives, Man of Many Faces and the light novels for CLAMP School Paranormal Investigators. There are recurring characters in each of the titles, with multiple inside references and jokes that are better understood when reading for this side universe as a whole. That being said, if you have read any of the previous titles for this universe, definitely give Duklyon a shot, it's just pure fun, and remember not to take it too seriously.

Bueno bueno, hello there!
Me gustó bastante!!
Ps. Al final le puse 4 estrellas porque vi que man of many faces tenía 4 estrellas jaajjajaja

This is such a random manga. CLAMP is such an interesting mangaka group, with a wild range in the content they put out. You have X/1999 (which they actually mention to make the point) being all traumatizing, and then there's this one. If you've ever seen the tag "crack treated seriously," this is it.

We have our two main characters fighting the evil Imonoyama Shopping District Association, who create a new monster that is destroyed in all of one punch, and the entire time you're sitting there wondering how nobody has recognized each other.

I love that CLAMP was doing crossover/multiverse stuff before it was cool, since we get to see a few characters we've already met. The cast of "Man of Many Faces" is featured in a couple of chapters, with them being major players in the final chapter.

I am just picking up whatever Clamp manga is offered through my library app right now. Duklyon is extremely campy, and depending on the reader, the idiotic cuteness might endear some and anger others. I am in the middle, and frankly, it bored me a little. The evil monsters are lame, but I found the sheep one adorable. Furthermore, the emerging love line is cheesy; obviously, it would be between the two opposite sides: good and evil. I wish the villain was more impressive, and I don't understand the name. However, I enjoyed the addition of Clamp's other work, "Man of Many Faces". That was fun. I don't know how to rate this. Clamp's older works have mostly been misses for me, but this wasn't that bad. 3/5.

By the way, did anyone else get power ranger vibes from our heroes?

Hahaha. What a senseless comedy. CLAMP benar-benar memaksimalkan kengacoannya di cerita ini. Lupakan logika cerita.

I laughed so hard reading this that I started choking . . . seriously, this is absolutely hilarious, and if you're a CLAMP fan, even more so. Even the 'teaser' for the conclusion in volume two at the end is hysterical (CLAMP people, you know how off the hook this is): 'Will justice and true love prevail? Of course they will - this isn't X/1999 you know!" (I am laughing just typing this, like I can't even breathe).

Nice cameos from CLAMP School Detective kiddos and their future wives, along with other CLAMP characters (quick but recognizable). I love Eri and her mallet - she's top notch in the violence department, but someone has to keep the boys of Duklyon in line.

Honestly amazing. You can tell CLAMP had a lot of fun writing this back in their early era (over 30 years ago now!). I know there are a lot of genres listed for this one but they're almost all lies - this is a comedy, and if you can buy into it all being purposefully a bit silly then you'll have a blast.

Also if you enjoy xxxHolic then I think you'll enjoy the character dynamics at play here, since Watanuki inherits a lot of their personalities.

Do you remember Power Rangers? Of course you remember Power Rangers. Did you ever watch Power Rangers and think, this would be even more awesome if it were totally self-aware and more tongue-in-cheek?

If you did, maybe you should check this series out. :)

Kentaro and Takeshi are students at Clamp Academy, but they have an alternate like as well - as the Clamp Campus Defenders, Duklyon! Based out of a bakery (and having to hop into a sometimes-in-use over to get to their secret base), they are fighting against the Imonoyama Shopping District Association, whose "first step"s in world domination include such diverse actions as taking over a science lab, interrupting a PE class or kidnapping a kindergartner. Not holding her for ransom or anything. Just... kidnapping her.

There's some nods in this that are pretty funny if you're in the right headspace for them. Almost everyone in this has an alter ego, and their alter ego almost never looks demonstrably different from their civilian persona. Sometimes they even use the same name in both personas. And yet no one ever works it out, in proud tradition.

Is this going to be a deep, mentally stimulating read? No. It's dumb fun, lovingly lampooning a particular type of hero. If that's what you're in for, it's a light, fun read. (And is part of a triumverate with the Clamp Campus Detectives and Man with 20 Faces.)

I skimmed this manga. Every chapter had the same story pretty much with tiny variations. Plus the good guys and the bad guys know each other but don't realise it despite massive clues.

It's not a manga that I would want to read any more of, personally.

Reminds me of Power Rangers but a little bit more on the ridiculous side (our superheroes are named after a bakery after all). It's definitely worth the read for Clamp but be warned it is one of their lighter works.

At first it looked really cheesy and stupid. But when I realized that that was the intention for the sake of comedy, it made it a more enjoyable read.
