Ryder Windham is an American sci-fi author who has written over sixty Star Wars books, including novels, comics, reference books, and so on. He has also written junior novelizations for Indiana Jones movies. Since 1993, he has been working on Star Wars projects either by himself or with other authors. His reference book Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide had been on the New York Times Best Seller list for three weeks in 2005. Although he has written lots of books, accepted interviews, and appeared at several fan-conventions, little is known about his personal life.
Look, I read this many, many years ago, no longer have my copy (...probably?), and have no idea what I would rate it today. That said, I loved this book so much when I was a kid that just thinking about it gives me a rush of nostalgia. I'd seen the movie and didn't really understand it, but I read this so many times afterward. It helped spark a short but intense "Star Wars" phase of my childhood and probably has a lot to do with my love of worldbuilding today.
This is the first in a series of Star Wars books that I read as a child. I couldn't think of a better word for this one, as there's plenty of pictures paired with bits of information exclusively on Episode One. The podracer bios are particularly nostalgic, and fueled my enthusiasm for the Ps2 game and was the most exciting part of the first film. The rest of the book wasn't nearly as organized or in-depth as most of the other books that I'm going to be reviewing this week, but it's something to whet my young appetite and inspired scifi stories of my own.
