As has been said, the conditions under which these letters were written forbade the author to indulge in details concerning the circumstances of his awful fate. Hence, for a fuller appreciation and a better under standing of the emotions that moved the writer at given periods, the following data must constantly be borne in Dreyfus was arrested October 15, 1894 his trial by court-martial began December 19 of the same year and ended December 23. The condemned man was pub licly degraded January 5, 1895, and on the 9th day of the following February the Chamber passed a law de creeing his place of confinement to be French Guiana, in South America; in March he was transported thither.

C’est pas mal... c’est juste long. C’est intéressant au début de lire les lettres qu’il écrit tous les jours a sa femme juste après la condamnation qui fait état d’une santé mentale très fragile, mais ensuite ses lettres au bagues sont très répétitives. On sent vraiment son enfermement mais j’aurais penser qu’il y aurait eu une sélection des lettres les plus marquantes sauf que non. Par contre il y a des très beaux passages de Dreyfus qui parle à sa femme et de très béles déclaration d’amour.
