Those interested in the history of myth and religion may be interested in this examination of the roots of the modern patriarchal religions. It claims they often lie in the older myths of multi-faceted pagan gods.
A native of the Pacific Northwest, author D.J. Conway has studied the occult fields for over 35 years. Her quest for knowledge has covered every aspect of Paganism and Wicca to New Age and Eastern philosophies; plus history, the magical arts, philosophy, customs, mythologies and folklore. In 1998, she was voted Best Wiccan and New Age author by Silver Chalice, a Pagan magazine.
She lives a rather quiet life, with most of her time spent researching and writing.
All of this author's books give me the distinct and lasting impression that she does not practice Wicca or Paganism, but simply studies them and writes about them. Sometimes this can be a real downside to her books, as you aren't "talking to" a real Pagan or Witch. In the case of this book, that doesn't apply. It is wonderful. This information, on the God of Wicca/Witchcraft, should be required and should be everywhere but it isn't. I've encountered bits of it, but hardly any and far between. The research that went into this book is real research, deep research, worthy research. I thank her for it. Read it if you want to know Him.
It's an attractive book, but there isn't much substance. It isn't really one stop shopping for all your godhead needs. You will likely want to explore a lot of other sources on mythology. However, this one does put the Wiccan spin on it all for you.
I read this several times over the years, and have enjoyed it, as a basic overview each time. Finally got my hands on the book, and still enjoy it. It's not deep, and it's not encompassing, but it's not bad.
It has been many years since I have read the book, and I have since misplaced it during one of my moves, but I enjoyed thoroughly this study of the Sacred Masculine.
